Italy has "All Souls Day", which is celebrated quite similarly as Day of the Dead.
So it’s not meant to be scary then? That’s where my confusion lies. I had thought they were trying to turn it into something scary but if not, I suppose it fits quite well there.

Last year at least, I thought it was meant to be more spooky or atmospheric (Which I loved and was the best part of the event last year). I haven't seen it since the first night this year so I don't know what they're trying to achieve this year.

It's not meant to be the scariest place. I think it's meant to be an area where it's still themed but you get a little reprieve.

I enjoyed Garden of the Souls last year. It wasn't scary but had a haunting atmosphere that I liked. I didn't see much going on with Fools Court.

Have you ever wanted to spend like half an hour of your life reading about someone's first impressions of Howl-O-Scream 2019? If so, boy do I have the article for you! Honestly, it's probably silly to even call it a first impressions—it's probably more like a rambling manifesto about my positions on the current state of Howl-O-Scream.

I don't know if it's an at all useful (or even interesting) read, but I had a lot of thoughts and I wanted to try to get them all out there at once.

So with the lighting thing, since it has happened in more than one park.

Is it possible it is intentional for the first weekend? To perhaps help with the new hires getting into the feel of things?

I could be overestimating the intricacies of their planning.

Interesting point! I've never heard of anything like that personally, but I won't say it's impossible that it could be the rational behind one of these cases.

Well i’m assuming that the lighting has been fixed..they can’t make HOS so dam bright.

In my opinion, last weekend, it was a serious issue in all of the scarezones and all of the indoor houses. The most severe cases were Vampire Ponit, Fool's Court, Frostbite, and Dystopia.

Currently en route to BGW for Howl-O-Scream tonight! Didn’t get to make it out last year for the 20th Anniversary, so I’m excited to see how things have changed since 2017. I’ll definitely post my thoughts afterwards.

HOS is never great the first weekend. I thought it was a known fact among enthusiasts that adjustments are made after the first weekend or two and the scare actors get better once they've had more practice. Why be so eager to review and comment on something knowing that it will be improved in a week or two? Wait until they've had a few weeks under their belt to form your final opinions.

Sure they have never delayed a show from starting until a few weeks in. Yes, maybe they should call it a "preview weekend". However, most of us here should know better than to judge how the whole season will be based just on the first weekend.
