I guess some of this is kind of funny, but isn't this almost the same as calling their guests/followers "stupid"?

Edit: Also, in one of them, aren't they talking about one of our own? In other words, kind of like a father to all of us here on BGWFans? Interesting.

So a few notes that I noticed from the first weekend.

-Sideshow Square didn't really add anything, which pretty depressing.  The actors are still great.

-I was hoping that the first weekend Circus Sinestro was missing a lot of effects, but that didn't seem to be the case.

-The new map screens are pretty cool and are probably the coolest use of the pre-rendered scares I talked about before.

-I noticed (per the image below) that if you get QQ, you can get early access to at least DeadLine.  Which is an interesting way to sell QQ that doesn't really hurt the experience of those without it.

Well yesterday I went for my first trip of the season and while I couldn't get to everything due to the fact we arrived late. I'll still give you the rundown on what I've seen so far

I went through two houses Cornered and the new house Circus Sinestro. First was cornered which was no different from last year though I wish there was more actors in the mirror section of the maze that section while great still seemed a bit dead. Next was the newest maze which I believe with more actors could have been the best house of the season though due to this the house felt tame but I did admire the design and special effects.

I only got see one show and it was Monster Stomp which still impresses me every time I see it. Overall the event was great and I hope I have more time to see more of the event next time.

I feel compelled to point out that while Cornered's theme and storyline remain the same, the physical layout of the maze has changed.

I went Friday Night with someone who had never been to Howl-o-Scream before. Two of the mazes she enjoyed the most were Bitten and Deadline. She said that Bitten was one of the more unpredictable houses for her and she jumped more in that house then all the other ones combined and she loved thew special effects of Deadline. So I wonder if maybe those of us who have been through them several times are not quite being fair to them.

A lot of people have complained about not seeing the dolls or mr. Karver in the park except for the escape room becuase its the theme but they had themes before that were never really in the park. The Cursed theme wasn't an attraction or anything at all, just one scare actor roaming around the park.

Here's some pictures of the scare actors in Sideshow Square.  It was really cool watching these actors as they were enjoying what they were doing.  After it got dark I went through the Circo Sinistro house and had like a 1:40 wait to do so.  But it was worth it as I like the house.

That's exactly what we were saying. They sent a team of about half a dozen security guards into the wood with flashlights and what looked like metal rods. What seemed so bizarre to me is that they were actually searching for the snake with their flashlights, not just on the path but also in the unpaved area surrounding the maze and even in the trees. It seemed like an incredible over-reaction that wasted 20 minutes of my limited time, caused dozens of poor guests to leave ton leave the hour-long queue, and caused the Quick Queue line to back up substantially.

I know this joke died about two years ago, but dear Virginia Gazette...

Those sound like snake handling hooks. I get that there's an extremely small chance that the snake is one of the three venomous species in the state (I'm a former member of the Virginia Herpetological Society). However, this type of over reaction to what is most likely a harmless snake is a gross waste of resources and runs counter to the environmental message the park tries to convey.

I agree that this over reaction to what could be a normal non venomous snake is a waste of time and resources but on the other hand I can't help but find it hilarious at the same time. Just the image of around a dozen security guards with snake hooks and flashlights looking for something like a little garter snake just makes me bust out laughing every time I think about it.

I wouldn't consider it a threat, just an overreaction. Then again, I would want to get the snake out of there and someplace safe.

Edit: So thinking about the types of people who go through the mazes (drunks and shit head teens), I can see them seeing the snake and grabbing it. If it was a venomous snake, it could do some serious damage. So yeah, I can see how getting the snake out of there could be a priority where in a perfect world people actually respect nature. However, given the location of the maze and the heat the lights would generate, I would imagine that there have been hundreds of snakes in that are over the life of the maze that people just haven't noticed. That's not to say the park should do everything they can to get rid of the snakes, but just pointing out how low the level of snake related incidents must be.

This subject is kind of sensitive to me because at KD a few weeks ago I saw some redneck bunch of fuckers kill a harmless snake in an extremely painful way for no reason which absolutely killed my enjoyment for the rest of the night. I hate to see innocent animals suffer because people are terrible.

I would rather them get a potentially venomous snake away from people rather than just forget about it and then it turn out that someone gets bit and has to go to the hospital.

Plus, the park is all about caring for wildlife, leaving a snake where it could get stepped on or ran over goes against that completely.
