Also, okay at the risk of having things thrown at me but for the sake of respectful discussion, I do have to say I sort of agree with PR's previous post re.: sex and Howl-o-Scream. I really don't think the event is THAT sexy, outside of the Demon DJ and the Naughty Nurses, who I see as more silly-sexy than straight-up sexual, do you know what I mean? Nothing about a guy in a cage or even the prostitutes in Ripper Row makes me think "sexy", given their contexts and portrayal, nor do I really see anything that sexual about Monster Stomp or Night Beats (though I haven't seen Night Beats the whole way through this year, full disclosure). Is there innuendo in both those shows? Sure- inevitably so, given the subject matter. But I don't think those shows are actually "sexy", if that makes sense... and I certainly don't get a strong "sexual" vibe from the event as a whole. That is just my personal opinion of course, but maybe this is the sort of thing you see more if you are actively looking for it (for example, I don't know how many of you have children, but I can see picking up on anything that could remotely be construed as having a sexually suggestive vibe more easily if you have children, since you are probably more sensitive to what you are exposing them to).

Also I still don't get Porno Nights, lol! I never read that thread though since I wasn't interested in the event but I'm still unclear if there were sexual elements present at Star Spangled Nights that are being satirized here or if someone just associates the Star Spangled Banner with pornography? Which, you know, if you ask me that's an odd association but to each his own... :p. Here I was thinking it was just a wholesome if somewhat misplaced patriotic event, maybe I should have checked it out after all!

As it has been explained in great detail earlier in this thread, "Porno Nights" is satire. It occured to Nic and several us agreed that the name Star Spangled Nights sounded like a bad 1970 porno. Hence Porno Nights.

As I have mentioned before, I do not expect a child to see the patently obvious sexual inuendo offered up by a guy almost dressed as a gimp (yes I know gimps wear leather, but he is bonded as well) in a change.

The imagry is about as subtle as a sledgehammer.

Further we know that the park has made it a stated goal to be more sexual.

I guess I'm just making the argument that it might not be as patently obvious as you think- no one who attended the park with me last weekend thought there was anything remotely sexual about the cage-cursed-guy-thingy- they just thought he was creepy and did a good job of scaring people! And I assure you that we are all very worldly adults.

The point is, there's nothing wrong with one person seeing one thing when they look at any given "display" within the park (for lack of a better term) and another person seeing something else! And no, I don't think it means you have a "dirty mind" or are sexually demented or something if you see certain things are more suggestive or provocative :p. It's just taking it a bit far to insist that ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE IN THEIR RIGHT MINDS must be seeing it through the same lens as you do, since that's clearly not the case. It all comes down to personal perception.

Oh and I did just scroll back and see where Nicole explain Porno Nights... still not sure what the phrase "star spangled" has to do with pornography but again, personal perception at play! I never would have made the association, but I do agree it's fun to make up nicknames for different events and I enjoy hearing the backstory behind them.

UGH its sold out! lol

I know it did in 2012 on Friday for certain. As I was there.... and annoyed. I had to park my car in the grass at the overflow lot, like some sort of heathen. It was devastating to say the least.

Went back to my old post from opening night 2012. Waited 30 mins max the entire night, although word had it that Root made it to an hour that day. That is not a capacity day.

Click

EDIT: the poster at the top of the page waited 5-10 mins for all the mazes except Root which was posted at 55 minutes.

Pass members can bring a friend for free on Friday in September, I'm not all surprised by it being busy. The park probably barely made any money that day anyway.

The park makes money on people in the park not admission (I can't remember the exact number but I think only 10-20% of their income is actually admission) . They probably made a shit-ton of money that day.

Huh. "Crowds were minimal until around 6 when the park was swarmed with people"

Which matches up closely to what I said with it hitting capacity around 5 when I got there.

But like me and the other poster said, the mazes had an average of 5-10 min waits with Root being the only maze to reach past that at the peak of the event. Swarming with people or not, that's not a capacity day unless all 35,000 people in the park were walking on the pathways and waiting for Root.

In regards to the capacity talk: I went every day opening weekend, and Friday/Sunday last weekend. Never waited more than 10 minutes for any of the houses, even after it was dark. For this, I thank Fiends for keeping people lined up down to the Eagles Nest all day long.

There were a few moments where I felt like I was the only one in the park, no people anywhere!

Really? I thought they were meh compared to what they've released in the past. ROAE's was basically a black screen for half the video.

^ that used to be one of the major themes in Wicked Woods when it first premiered. Pretty well done if you ask me - but it may be a bit challenging to translate that idea to the entire park.

Park themes really don't seem to connect to the park at all. Their just made up themes by marketing. It's not like there are any houses, shows, or terror-tories dedicated to the theme. There is only one scare dedicated to the theme this year and that's the cursed guy in the cage.

In the past the overall theme was represented in the event. Honestly, since I still haven't figured out what "Cursed" really means, I have no idea if it is a cohesive theme, or just a marketing slogan. I think if we had a better understanding of what the Creepy Cursed Cage Guy was going and what happens when the theme music is played, I might be better able to understand the overall concept this year. But maybe that is just me.

To better explain the Cursed thing they always could have someone write up some story and print out some signs. Similar to the ones they have/had on the monsters in Ireland (or when they used to be in Oktoberfest.)
