To be fair, Jack had a terrible show attached to him.

It's still not a maze, They never billed the show as the "Thing" to do at HOS.

The maze had a photo op and was hyped at the grand encounter of the lady of the gardens inside of a maze.

Jack was always just a mascot, and a "thing to see"... Never as an "experience". He should've been an Icon or something... Oh well.

Not really, it's still early in the season and the park hasn't even started Illuminights.

This time last year Zachary had said a new house in a new location would be in Germany(ROAE) we had also confirmed the death of monster stomp IIRC.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

Well we already confirmed the death of Fear Fair if that counts for anything. With F&W and IllumiNights, Ent has bigger fish to fry right now.

Jack never had a house attached to him that was a complete failure. When you attach an Icon to a house, the risk you are taking is that they are forever tied to that event and the year it took place... And a large judgement of how good that year was is based on the maze... If the maze is a complete bomb, People will attach that to the Icon. Basically, it boils down to something that can have an adverse effect on numbers. Now, What do you think *they* would rather do..? Forget she ever existed or try again to save money and re-do the already failed maze and advertise it as brand new and make people know they changed it, while keeping the icon that failed to scare in their scare-less maze as the Icon for the event... That people who aren't us won't know has been reinvigorated in the first place.

Quite honestly, I'll be surprised if they don't act like she ever existed...

So what do we know about this year's HOS anyways?

I understand your point and it does make sense HOWEVER the park's Entertainment budget is running slim this year so much to the point it has already taken its toll on a special event that hasn't even started yet. Do you honestly think they will spend the money on all new everything? Unless HOS has taken the huge mass of funding, we will probably see a repeat of last years event with a few improvements here and there.

In fact, The Lady of the Gardens was just as if not more so popular and demanded for than Jack. Sure some people had a hard time letting go of Jack, but a vast group of the GP and fans alike praised The Lady of the Gardens and she is a theme that matches up with the park's new logo based on gardens. Sure one day they will ditch her and forget about her completely just like Jack, but her time has just begun.

Also, I agree with Zach. Entertainment has other things to worry about. A whole new special event, plus a returning one and not to mention the regular season entertainment. I say wait until July or better yet August before we start hearing anything HOS related.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

I'm almost positive HOS was locked in before the budget crisis... It would be rather late to start planning an event as big as HOS in may. Designs were probably finalized in February and sent off to w/e haunt contractor they are using around that time.

The lady was popular due to the advertising campaign and the involvement with it the previous year. When she was no where to be found people threw a fit. She got her own house... It bombed... people threw a fit... Think they are gonna bring her back after that? Of all the things they could do this year.... that'd be the number 1 shocker.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

I know it was stated a while back fear fair would not be returning, but I rode apollos chariot 3 or 4 times Sunday to get a good look. Unless I've gone blind, it looked like they had different clown tents up over where FF was, so could a different clown maze be placed there?

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

They leave that up all year, once it's closer, they'll do whatever it is they're doing.

At this point I'm not sure we'll see anything there this year.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

You think they plan the budget in May? Everything HOS, the budgets, etc. was probably done in late January. Like I said previously, one house does not make an event, no matter how the house is tied to the theme, it is still just one house and not the theme.

By the way, the only contractor Entertainment uses is Oak Island. Oak Island does Illuminights, How-o-Scream, and Christmas Town.

Same tents, just covered with tarps. The only thing left standing is really the tents, fencing, and a few other things. Most things have been packed up and stored in a warehouse somewhere, come August we can expect to see some work getting done.

Lady of Gardens mascot to event, Given her own house. House failed, GP no like... They don't bring her back because she was tied to something bad... How does that not make sense?

Also, Who knows who they are using now. They've changed up who they went to several times and I can't confirm that OIA is their contractor for this HOS.

If HOS was allotted for in January... How is that affect the budget *now*?

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

From what I understand Oak Island was the main contractor used for both Howl-O-Scream 2010 and 2011. They did a lot of work on Howl-O-Scream 2012 as well but they didn't win the bid to do Root of All Evil so that wasn't an Oak Island house like Deadline, Fear Fair, and Thirteen were.

Shocker.

But seriously, I think the problems with 13 stem from its layout, not oak island.

I never said it did not make sense. I even said in an earlier post I understand your point and it does make sense HOWEVER the event was still widely successful and she was still very popular with the GP towards the end of HOS. Also, I did not see any advertising or billing with her directly related to the maze. In fact, the description more or less just said you took a tour of the park's greenhouses and things go wrong. There was never an ad as this is the thing to do. There was never an ad saying this maze is totally all about her.

From what I was told from OIA, OIA was used for HOS, CT, and ILLU since 2009.

Do you think they just plan the budget day by day? If they made budget cuts to ILL months before it started, I would bet that they made the budget for the year in January when most, if not all, the planning for the year was done.

Oak Island was the go-to contractor for HOS and Christmas Town. The only houses they were not in "charge" of were RoaE and Bitten, both were done in house by the Entertainment department. Though they still assisted as needed with repair and building. Even with the other houses and park itself Busch Gardens comes in and designs the house, decides the theme, and says what props and scares will be used. Then they send those designs off to Oak Island who builds it. Oak Island really just installs, maintains, and strikes the houses and park theming and that's it.

Now for Christmas Town they have a lot more influence, but of course the Entertainment Department has final say :( I don't know how much influence they have with Illuminights but talking with people last year I got the impression they just do the theming and Christmas style lights throughout the park and have nothing to do with the shows.

Oak Island now also does events at the Sesame Street park as well as Tampa and Seaworld so they are pretty integrated with the entire chain right now. I do know that Oak Island is returning for Illuminights this year and I ASSUME they are returning for HOS and Christmas Town also.

At the end of HOS last year we tore everything of value out of Fear Faire, the only stuff left were the structures and items that were supposed to go right into a dumpster during Christmas Town strike. We were told to expect a bulldozer to hit the area because they tents were in such disrepair. I don't think that strike ever happened considering they downsized the crew pretty drastically and the tents are still standing. So I expect the final strike of Fear Faire to happen sometime during the summer season after Illuminights gets into full swing.
