I think that ROAE was such a bomb that BGW isn't willing to bring back the Lady of the Gardens. Besides, if your going to try to make a more intense and fresh event, your gonna need to change the theme up every 1 or 2 years.

I highly doubt they will trash the lady so soon. In fact, I think she might be around to stay another year or two. After all, they had such amazing success with her the first year, you can bet they want to try a milk out as much money off of her as they did with Jack. Wait a second, could the lady be replacing Jack as a permanent theme? BGW has been known to stick to one theme for many seasons.

I will say you don't have to change a theme to make a more intense and fresh event. "The Dark Side of the Gardens" goes perfectly with the new marketing campaign for the parks that is all about gardens, plus last time I checked, the houses, shows, and scare zones are what make an event intense and fresh. A theme is just there to collectively name the event. For example, with Jack as their mascot so-to-speak the first how many years; 11? They had a solid theme that worked well, but the event was still tailored to children more than adults. Scott changed that. It took him three years but he found a theme that is solid enough to keep around for a few seasons that makes the event much more intense than it was with it's previous long-term theme.

Just because one house fails doesn't mean the entire theme of an event fails. It just means either the attraction needs major love or it needs to go.

Hey Guys, have you noticed on the brochure in the brochure forum that under howl o scream it says: Dare to enter and unlock the fear inside? With going along with Tampa's theme last year with the Key and unlocking the gate? Maybe?

Great catch! I think that we could be seeing a key theme used with the dark side of the gardens theme this year. Add something new, but basically keep it the same.

I think Lady is going bye-bye.... Seriously... The GP were harder on ROAE and the lady than we were... The things they said were crazy.

Lady of the Gardens has been around longer than Root of all Evil has existed. I don't think she'll be going anywhere anytime soon at this point. If they bring the Dark Side of the Gardens campaign back, she'll most likely come back as the mascot again like Jack has been for the past 10 or so years.

- I'd seriously love to see living statues again this year. They were so cool last year and they totally fit the "gardens" theme the park is trying to strive for. Maybe bring the Weeping Angels here.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

Yeah I have a feeling shell be back, a bad maze wouldn't make them take a good theme away. To be honest one of the MAIN problems with that maze was the location

They could make the garden by DaVinci's Cradle a scare zone with living statues and the Lady of the Garden at the center.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

Lately I've been thinking, could Catacombs come back another year? I think out of all the houses Howl-O-Scream has ever had, this is the most re-usable one. I'm not saying that it's the best house they've ever had by far, but this is the only one where they've been able to change the layout every year. The only complaint that it's gotten every year is that it's too short. What I'm wondering is if they can fix this. Since the Royal Palace Theatre is hardly ever used anymore, and it isn't used anymore until late spring, I was wondering if they could extend the platform of the stage into the theater itself. They could use that to extend the house up to twice its length. I know this sounds very unlikely, but the possibilities would be nearly endless. This would allow them to make it more immersive than ever before. Any thoughts?

That is a pretty good idea, I honestly don't think they would though. But I'll let PartyRocker answer this :p

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

Ah Catacombs, it is one of my favorites as it can be changed up each year. If anyone has ever been to see the penguins check out the space. That whole area is basically comprised of two large rooms, also I was lucky enough to check out the place during the switchover from skeletons to penguins and from what I've seen, the space is very limited and I'm surprised they could do so much with Catacombs in the first place. Now I honestly thought they were going to expand onto the stage on year, which I did bring up here what if, and they didn't.

Now the main issues that we can see with this is:

1) The stage is typically used for the scare actors as a green room (not sure if this is true every year, but from pictures that is what happened at least one year).

2) Is there a major difference in elevation from the floor in the maze to the stage? If there is a rather large difference to the point they couldn't use small ramps, I do see an issue there. Generally, most insurance companies that insure haunted houses do not allow them to have stairs UNLESS the stairs to be be in a very very well lit area to be safe.

So with those two issues in the way, I doubt they would expand on the stage, if they really wanted to I'm sure they could find a way but not possibly a great way, more of a rushed, cheap, possibly dangerous way :p

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

Now take all of the charecters from the brochure on the "Born To" pages and make them more... Eeeevil!!
Would love to see a rabid wolf and Zombie Elmo.

Jack never had a house attached to him that was a complete failure. When you attach an Icon to a house, the risk you are taking is that they are forever tied to that event and the year it took place... And a large judgement of how good that year was is based on the maze... If the maze is a complete bomb, People will attach that to the Icon. Basically, it boils down to something that can have an adverse effect on numbers. Now, What do you think *they* would rather do..? Forget she ever existed or try again to save money and re-do the already failed maze and advertise it as brand new and make people know they changed it, while keeping the icon that failed to scare in their scare-less maze as the Icon for the event... That people who aren't us won't know has been reinvigorated in the first place.

Quite honestly, I'll be surprised if they don't act like she ever existed...

So what do we know about this year's HOS anyways?

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

Honestly I thought the Lady of the Gardens was one of the major highlights of that maze.

I'd love to see them expand the greenhouse concept to the entire park. Living statues, chainsaw guys, crow people, living plants, zombie gardeners (with good costumes, not the crap they had last year). Throw in clowns and werewolves because everyone loves those. There's a greater emphasis on the whole gardens theme this year, so why not?

Bitten, Catacombs, Deadline, and 13 stay. Two new mazes added to the mix since ROAE and Fear Fair are apparently being replaced.
