RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

I seriously doubt they will bring it back if they share a theme with Tampa. I don't know the last time Tampa has done the same theme two years in a row.

But Tampa can stick with the same theme though. Yes it always changes it theme, but look at BGW. They used to have the same theme for 11 years almost. Jack is Back was the main theme, now BGW is changing their theme every year it seems like. So perhaps we will see a switch? BGW gets a new theme each year and BGT sticks with a theme for awhile; or they both share the same theme for a few years.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

I think the different changes in themes was BGW looking for one that would work.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

Well true, but still. A reoccurring Dark Side of the Gardens theme isn't a complete fantasy. It has some possibility to come back. After all, the GP loved it (except nurse haters) and they have begged for it to come back. Also, the theme is very fluid and could be changed just a tad bit each year to make it different but the same. Plus, a lot of people want that song.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

I think it should come back, and I really think they should get rid of the jack is back show, it's the worst show I've ever seen. And it didn't help when they changed his look

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

Well thats exactly what I'm saying. Dark Side of the Gardens was a success. So it'll come back.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

I think you're missing my point though. BGW this past year decided to coordinate with BGT and use the same theme. This was done from a marketing standpoint to decrease the costs associated with that: Merchandise, advertising, etc. At least that is what I was told by the guy in charge of the BGT's HOS.

BGT does not use the same theme two years in a row, and hasn't in a long time. Considering BGW is spending a lot of money on a new ride, they may choose to go the same route this year and share a theme with Tampa. So there are two options here.

1)BGW shares a new theme with Tampa. Tampa is more than likely not going to use the same theme.
2)BGW goes back to the Lady of the Gardens theme and does not split the marketing costs with Tampa.

I just think that option 1 makes the most sense business wise. It worked very well last year for the two parks. Also I think sticking with the Lady of the Gardens theme is really a regression for BGW's HOS, considering how much better last year was and the momentum it gave them. I don't think you'd ever see Universal or Tampa reuse a theme nowadays.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

Well you missed my point, the parkas are changing. BGW changed their style of HoS and BGT can easily do the same thing. Plus, it would save even more money for both of them to have the same theme, year after year. Unsold merchandise can be used again next year, etc.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

Yea, except BGT isn't very likely to do that. They're in direct competition with Universal. There's no way they could stay competitive while presenting the same "story" as last year, when Universal is obviously going to change it up.

BGT isn't changing, BGW is.
BGW is also in direct competition with Kings Dominion's event. If they don't change the event and keep it different they will loss the competition to Kings Dominion's event.

This statement posted by pandorazboxx as an option is correct
BGW shares a new theme with Tampa. Tampa is more than likely not going to use the same theme.
The theme as to fit in with each of the parks own theme. Tampa would use a theme related to Africa and Williamsburg will do a theme related to Europe.

You can't lose market share, if you didn't already have it.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

I think what really made it easy for the parks to share the Dark Side theme was because that overall theme was just purely about gardens, which both parks are about. After all they are called Busch Gardens. So that could be one of the major reasons for the theme working really well. I am sure we will see this theme return. If they really wanted to beat Kings Dominion, the can still stick with the Dark Side theme, but really amp up the scares. They keep improving from year to year now. Also, how long has KD done the Haunt theme?? It seems like every Fall they do the same thing and does it hurt them? Probably not because it works for them. Find what works best for you and do it, and if you think something is better, try it. One of the reasons for getting rid of Jack, they knew they could do better. Sadly, they didn't do so hot on Jack's new look, but the new themes have been better.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

Well... Kd's Haunt is not focused on the overall general theme of the event. Their focus even in the days of Paramount have been what is IN the event. There is always a new scare zone, A new maze or two, and new shows. That's how they have done it and it works for them... focusing on the individual themes of content in their park and selling it to guest.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

Even though both BGT and BGW had the same overall theme, BGT's focus was on zombies while BGW's was on the Lady of the Gardens. Since the event was successful, I can definitely see it returning for 2012.

If the park really wants to compete with Haunt, they're gonna have to amp up the scares. From what I've heard, KD allows their actors to roam the midways and not to hold back on scares. Actors in mazes are the same way (don't hold back) and it seems to work for them just as well as HOS works for BGW.

Having the actors roam the park which gives KD some what a advantage with their event. Since Busch was gearing more to the whole family with a less scary event over the years.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

I think that scare zones should be loose areas with a common theme. A set area from one to point to another is just too contrasting. If the actors could wonder around more that would be helpful.

Even while BGT's was zombies, they were the ones that basically created all advertising for it. They did use the Lady too, they just didn't stick her out there like BGW did.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

I think BGT's roaming zombie hordes was one of the best things of Halloween at theme parks last year. Universal had a similar roaming mob of chainsaw guys that was pretty good. But BGT's took the cake. I wish BGW would have done their "scare is everywhere" like that.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

Ok. So Howl-O-Scream is my favorite event at Busch Gardens. I love it! I live about 3 hours away from BGW but I manage to get there 2-3 times a year. My opinion, as someone who has a limited amount of income, is Howl-O-Scream should remain free, but I love the idea of having one house with a separate fee like in Tampa. My whole party agreed that if there was one separate-charge event that was catered to each person in our party and could be done alone, we would all do it. I would love to see something like 13 that would be customizable to each person's fears. If I had the money, I would go to the one in tampa just to do that house.
