RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

Oh lawdy. This should get interesting...
I think there needs to be an upcharge or something that weeds out those with little ones. That's my only complain about the event.

I know this would be difficult to do, but what about make a section of the park have multiple houses, drinks, scarezones, etc and be an upcharge to get into that area. Possibly Oktoberfest? Pending how much construction overall affects Oktoberfest Park, they could put 3 houses back there again, turn Festhaus into a club, and put scarezone or two in the general area. I think something along that line would work great. I'm not even talking a huge upcharge. Maybe a $5-10 charge and i.d. check? and maybe also give a drink or two away to kind of make up for the upcharge? I know multiple people who have said they would go to HOS more if it was catered more to adults, or had an area for adults.

One more thing, someone in here said even Christmastown has issues with overcrowding... So wouldn't that essentially prove that an upcharge "could" work? We all know entitlement is an amazing thing now of days. Even if people realize they are getting more of an event with the upcharge, they will still complain because it used to be free. Personally, I say do an upcharge event of some sort. I have no problem paying because I know an upcharge will ween out those that are going to 'stick around and see how scary it is" and then leave because their kid just peed on their selves. Everyone notice the park usually opens back up at 7-730 once all those people leave? That's why their needs to be an upcharge of some sort. Plain and simple.

How about plat pass holders are void from it. A ton of people will be canceling if that happens. It will hurt this park as well as the others.

If they wanted to increase revenue and cut down on overcrowding, I would hope that they would eliminate the Fall Fun Card, the Fall Bonus Ticket, the Preschool Pass extension, and the $20 off coupons at every fast food place in the region, before even considering charging a separate fee to passholders.

...But, on the flip side, as people have said before, there is no real competition for the park. KD holds a similar event (and I remember it advertising that during the day they have a bunch of kid-friendly Fall activities for them to enjoy and then after a certain time its for the more adult crowd.] On top of the fact that they would have to have the hours to make the upcharge worth it. i would say extending the hours by at least one hour would be nice

Personally, I don't want the event to be an extra charge. At this point, HoS is the only time of the year I can actually get to BG, so paying for a single day ticket plus HoS, wouldn't be worth it to me and my family. [Even with Military discounts]...

and this are the exact reasons why I don't see them doing an upcharge HOS.

i'm OK with paying for it, if it's bigger and better. I only really go during howl o scream about once or twice...Sure some people will complain, but if it's not too big of an inconvenience, most people will accept it and move on. And if there was anytime to do it, it would be during a year with a new roller coaster going in to offset the attendance hit.

You're in the minority. Until somethings change, BGW will be a regional park. People who go multiple times throughout HOS will stop or reduce the number of times they go.

Christmastown is the exception, not the rule. Aside from a few events in the area, they have no competition for this event. Hence they can get away with "upcharging" for it.

I'm on the fence for an upcharge HoS event. On the one hand I see the purpose of it. To weed out those people who have children who don't listen to the warnings over the loud speakers, along with not reading the signs, and then complain about the event...

And what's to stop people from bringing their kids anyways?

This could work, it would just be a matter of where. Festa Italia would work better, IMO.

In any case, the park does need to do something. I just don't see an upcharge event working out.

Isn't that the point though? The people going multiple times for HOS are contributing to the overcrowding. Is that the main issue?

This is the key. An up-charge event won't work while BGW is still a regional park. Blackstone doesn't want BGW to be a regional park- at least not for much longer.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

You guys have an awful lot of faith that upcharging the event will have a significant impact on the number of kids there.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

I would not pay extra for HOS. I spend enough money on my pass, gas, hotels, food, and everything else to get to BGW. If you've been giving me something from the start, you better be doing a LOT to make up for charging me for that something. Free weekends for passmembers are a nice thought, but I can't always drop everything and run to VA on a specific weekend. I'd miss the rides and shows, but I have plenty of Halloween attractions around here I can hit up if I have to pay extra.

That said, to make the upcharge "worth it," they'd have to extend hours, put in more HOS attractions, really ramp it up. To extend hours, they would either have to not allow minors into the event, which would be a huge knock and irritate a ton of parents/kids, or ensure they are with an adult at all times, which is just not going to happen and impossible to enforce.

JCC has a curfew in place. That has to be a big part of why HOS can't be open any later than it is currently. The site isn't loading right now or I'd post it for you all to read. I'm sure those of you who live there already know about it.

I understand lines are long and crowds are huge, but why would anyone risk losing guests and passholders? Isn't the point to have those huge crowds?

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

If it's done right meaning that it would be age restricted. To me, that alone would justify the price.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

There would be no one in the park. Like it or not, Williamsburg is a family destination. Groups of 25 year olds don't come here to hang out for the weekend. Again, this is not Tampa.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

There is enough groups of 13 and up that comes to HoS to justify an age restricted event though. If the park does it right, they might get away with 18 up. It is an hour away from from two major populated areas.

So they make it 13 and up, and still have to close by 11pm because of the curfew. You just paid extra money for a, at most, five hour event. Four hours most nights. It's just not worth it.

It's an hour away from two major populated areas, which means it's too isolated to attract the twentysomething crowd who wants to go out and party. That's not the kind of place Williamsburg is. Tampa, sure.

I did mention before that, yes, they would have to expand the hours to get away with it. They would have to do a lot more than what they do now in general to get away with it. Even including the shows, which I don't think should be included in the event, there's simply not enough content now to justify the price. They would have to have a lot more content added and I think in a few years when the construction is done.

As far as the cerfew goes, there are still a lot of people who go that are older than 18, I also doubt that JCC cops will be at the park looking for minors.

Seriously? There are cops there now, and if they know the park is allowing minors in and staying open past 11pm, there will be even more cops. That is if JCC lets the park get away with it in the first place, which they won't.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

I believe the cops don't do anything because they are on private property... BTW, curfew is only from 12-4 am

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

I know there are cops there now. But would they really camp there just to pick up minors? Maybe JCC could get a waiver as well considering it would mean more money. The park is already violating the minds of kids with the nurses, what's so bad about kids being on private properity with more security per square foot than JCC could dream of past their bed time?

Because it's a law? Because residents don't want kids roaming around after midnight? Because they're bringing in pleeeenty of money now without having to change that law/have kids roaming around after midnight? Because once those kids leave the park and hit the road at 2am with their buddies, they become a big problem for the JCC police? Because minors can't drive themselves between midnight and 4am and will try to do it anyway because "ZOMG Busch Gardens is open!"? And don't even say the parents will have to step up and take/keep them home - not going to happen.

If it's not 18+ only, no good. And even then, I'm not wanting to pay extra.
