RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

LOL, not offended. I just think the people who think this may actually happen are not being very realistic in their arguments. Think about it: the park has a wildly successful event, so much so that they CAN NOT fit any more people inside for hours at a time. Yet they are going to radically, reinvent this event so they can... what? To what end? Get more people to attend? Not possible. Make more money? They'd just have to stop giving away tickets to non-passholders. It'd be the kind of thing I could see someone getting fired for incompetence for even suggesting.

I have to say, that's a pretty great argument.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

How about content? It would be a pretty great way to keep people from being exposed to stuff they shouldn't.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

I think the age restriction suggestion has been beat to death. It is really separate from the upcharge discussion in my opinion. I don't think this would work, but still, I'd rather pay for HOS and get CT included. That is a fair trade for me.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

I agree, from a business view, it makes more sense to charge for the larger event that has more appeal. As for the age restriction thing for content, swift pointed out to me that there is stroller parking for 13. The park made an .... attempt this year to separate the content, but people are dense. This would be a very good way to separate the content so some thick parent doesn't accidentally take a three year old into a scare zone or something.

It's absolutely not separate. The gist of the upcharge thing is to make it more like Tampa. Tampa is an adult event. Without an "adults only" restriction and houses/shows/attractions to match, what justification is there to charge as Tampa charges? There is none. (And I'm still not saying it should be restricted OR upcharge.)

Trading CT for HOS is in no way a fair trade. You're taking an event with all rides/attractions open with haunted houses added in that's open at least 10-10 and trading it for limiting rides/attractions and a 3-9 operating schedule. Passmembers are losing. A good point was made on the FB page; the holiday season tends to be busier so people doing go to CT as much as they would go to HOS. If you charge for HOS, you're going to lose a TON of the passmembers who go to HOS a bunch of times. You want your HOS attendance to go down? Charge the passmembers. What needs to go are the fun cards, preschool passes, and free tickets for buying soda or whatever nonsense that was. Either single day ticket sales or pass sales will go up. Park wins either way, passmembers stay happy.

Which is exactly why it makes since to charge for the event that has more attrctions.

Sure, the park could jerk us around and charge us, but by doing that, they're going to anger a lot of customers who have been getting HOS as part of their pass for years. How is the park going to justify that move to passholders? "Hey, we're not changing anything of significance from what you've been getting included for the past 13 years, but we decided you have to pay now." Sounds great. I'm sure customers will love it.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

I still like my pass members get Friday and/or Sunday for free with a $10 to $15 up-charge on Saturday idea. Also, I completely agree with Shafor and Pagey about the ridiculous discounts they've been offering. Kill the Fall Fun Card, kill the Preschool Pass, get rid of the $20 off tickets- it's getting ridiculous.

What's different on Saturdays to justify me having to pay for it? If I'm getting charged extra, I should be getting something extra.

And I'm glad we can all agree those fun cards/kid passes/whatever should really go.

^ You're getting more time (an extra hour) and you're getting Christmas Town for free.

With so many indoor attractions now, does anyone see a problem with the event starting at 5 instead of 6?

CT for free isn't a draw for me, and has nothing to do with HOS. I go once, and I wouldn't be that upset if I missed it, TBH. If I am being charged for HOS, I want to know what the park is giving me, via HOS, to make that charge worth it. I'm not looking for an actual answer, it's a hypothetical... thing. You can't do something like this halfway. Either you charge and make it an adults-only event like Tampa, which isn't going to happen and we all know it, or you keep it as-is. Nobody is going to say, "Oh, I get to go to some other, less exciting event in December, that totally makes me happy about paying more for this, even though this used to be free." I understand what you're saying, though I don't agree, but think of the GP. It wouldn't fly.

I'm all for the indoor houses opening earlier than 6. That could potentially help with the line problems.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

lets all step back and think for a second. Busch isn't thinking of this as being a change "in the near future" this is something that could happen down the road. Doubling the size of WCUS? Possible BG expansions(more rumors of course)? Possible resort? I mean come on guys. They are wanting this to be a Disney world competitor, not KD competitor.

Busch can get away with anything they please. What makes you think they can't get away with an upcharge? I guess you don't realize there are multiple "haunted houses" in the tidewater area alone. They have been going on for years, which leads me to believe they are making money. Just sayin'. Sure if they want to make more money, they can get rid of the $15 weekend. but what does that do? That eliminates possible people from being in the park. That's people that spend money on drinks, food, merchandise, games, etc. I'm willing to bet they make more money per person off the money they spend in the park compared to their entrance fee. (I'm basing this off overhead cost per say more than anything)

Here's another one for ya. If I was running the park, and I saw cars sitting on that overpass all day, I'd be grinning ear to ear. I'd also love that the park hits capacity at 3. Know why? Everyone has to eat dinner right? Think they are going to leave to possibly not be able to get back in? Didn't think so.

Again though, this is not a near term thing. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize they have a long term goal here. This is just adding to the "resort" rumor. I'm mean really, look at all these rumors we've heard. This is playing into it some how. Of course the event has only gotten much more popular, but good things always come to an end. They need to have another phase ready in place. You can't create a good event, and hope it's always popular. They don't just send out a "simple" questionnaire to get an idea of who would pay for an upcharge event, for their biggest event. They are looking big picture. Something alot of companies have failed to do, and we all know how that turns out.

This (and everything else he just posted) exactly. Remember that video Chris posted? He wasn't kidding.

This paragraph seems to contradict itself. You're saying they can "get away with an upcharge," But that getting rid of discounts "eliminates possible people from being in the park" costing them money. Not sure I get it?

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

I was rambling. Let me to try sort it out a bit.

Upcharge is not a "near future" thing. It's part of a long term goal *Blackstone* has for it's Williamsburg parks.
They "could" upcharge now. They could pull it off. I'm essentially saying the whole deal would cause them to break even with what's going on now. (IE everyone rushing to get to the park before capacity, buying everything) I also didn't say cost the park money, but that having all these people in the park at dinner time is making them money...

I'm on a long term thought process with this. Just read the first paragraph. That's what my thinking on the whole situation is.
