but England was so well decorated.

No.

Wow, I thought that was the best executed scare zone I've seen in years. While the ravens were numerous, the area was perfectly executed. Perfect lighting, and the best soundtrack I've heard in years. (It was the intro to Sweeney Todd). They took a risk on the area quite frankly. They didn't want fear factor in the area, they wanted eerie, which is a thin layer of ice to walk on. How so YouHow?????

I hated how octoberfest felt like you were at a concert instead of hos

I felt the same way too. I didn't really like Octoberfest's theme last year. I hope they decide to do something different this year.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

Uhm. Perfectly executed? Again, In Your opinion.

Lighting was okay, nothing to write home about. The ravens were too much.... Less is more.... If they had took the money they used for all those crappy looking ravens and put a few good looking, creepy looking props ones in places with efficient lighting, I felt the effect would have been better. Using Music from movies Kill the fourth wall. Instead of immersing you in the area and atmosphere, It makes your mind go "Oh hey, I know this song, from this movie" Giving you another reminder that everything around you is fake. I'ts much better when you dont know what noises and changes in the music to expect. It's another way to distract you and your mind. Now I'm the type of guy who owns the whole entire midnight syndicate discography, so alot of the songs they play I've already heard before... I think its part of the reason I prefer ambient noises rather than Music. Most haunted houses use Midnight syndicate. Now, with the type of budget Busch should have for the event, making a few of their own songs shouldnt be hard at all. Infact i could do such a thing rather easily... And for cheap too, considering I own tons of software and have access to hardware to make such music...

But yeah, The England Scarezone. First off I would never put a Scarezone in England. Maybe a few Halloween decorations, but nothing that's sposed to be really scary and if they were still using jack, I'd probably have him and a couple sidekicks there for photo ops or something. I know you guys think I'm Hard on HOS, and I am... But some of the things they do irk me to no tomorrow. I've got alot of experience with lighting, construction and all sorts of things like that. When I rant about how much this and that sucks, Believe me I've got some experience and know how, and if you want to know my reasonings behind my statements all you have to do is ask why.

My problems with the England scarezone beyond the crappy looking birds was the lighting. It did it's job making Big Ben look evil I spose, but I dont remember it being used to effectively set up scares, You know being a "scare-zone" and all... I dont remember props beyond the "decorations" they had up on the buidlings. Scare-Zones are supposed to be slightly disorientating and IMO, putting a few decorations on some buildings and some lighting on the buildings and dropping 3 scare actors into an area... Does not make a scare zone. The Best "Scare-Zone" Busch ever did was Last-Year's Harvest Hallow. If they had billed it as a scarezone again, It would've been better than anything I've seen being called a scarezone at any other haunt, Ever. Period. Busch Has potential. They show it constantly. But their event if you ask me on technicalities doesnt even live up to KD's haunt. They obviously have a smaller budget and can string together houses with themes and stories like no tomorrow. Even if half of them are crap, They still have 4 every year that beat the snot out of Busch's, just because they can apply a good theme and a story. They know when they want to get you with silly-stupid, over the top scares, and when they truly want you to be terrified. Buschs says every year, "We want to terrify you" with their advertising then disappoint us looking for a good scare with crappy scarezones which end up just be people walking around in costumes being "scary" and houses that are just mirrors of what they were before with an overlay thrown on them (Yeah Im looking at you festhaus park), or too well lit, with scare actors hardly trying and them all being in the same places, using the same scares... in all the houses.

^I think we've found the issue.

You know how movie critics never like the same movies everyone else likes? It's because they've seen too many movies. That's not to say they have 'wrong' opinions. It's just saying that they have a more specific pallet than the average movie-goer, and that tends to put them a little out of touch with what the average viewer will find enjoyable. Now, I'm not saying you're out of touch (I don't know you well enough at all for that), but I am saying that someone who owns the entire catalog of an organization that specifically makes horror music must have a pretty direct interest in that sort of thing, and there might be a significant gap between the types of things that excite you and the types of things that excite the common haunted-park goer.

I think KD exists as it does and BG exists as it does because they intend to serve two different audiences, and are trying to cultivate two different brand images. KD has pretty much abandoned the family market, as well as the older crowd, and targets almost exclusively the teenage/early-20/thrill seeker audience. To that end, their haunt fits that bill. BG, however, is a family park, and while they may be trying to make a "scary" park experience, I can promise that they're not going to be willing to absolutely shift-gears on their branding to do that. From a marketing and promotion perspective (something I have some experience in), that would be damaging to the image and counterproductive. So, they have to build the best haunt they can while not alienating their base, or changing the public perception of their brand. HoS, IMO, accomplishes this.

That all said, if you are into an "edgy, scary, terrifying, blood-curdling, creeped out for a few weeks/permanent psychological damage" type of horror experience, rather than more of a "boogie-man, wolf-man, jump out from a bush-and-startle-you, jack-o-lanterns, I'm scared but I'm laughing" type of horror experience, why not just skip HoS and stick to KD?

Also...

The Best "Scare-Zone" Busch ever did was Last-Year's Harvest Hallow.

I know I said I liked Last Laugh Industries, but I actually agree with this. I thought it was extremely well-done.

But, for the record...

The music they were playing....

was the soundtrack from Tim Burton's 2001 film Sleepy Hollow.

Quoted for Mega-Truth. I think I've been beating my head against the wall for the past 2-3 years here trying to make this point. But you've said it more directly than I ever have. Thanks! ;)

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

ok I believe they both put out a great product and I would never take either of them off the market but Youhow makes a point you say that busch "makes you laugh" well kd's haunt has plenty of "gags" that are there to make you laugh what really makes me upset is that you ALL say KD is only there to be terrifying when that is sinply not true they have plenty of snoopy stuff during the day for kids and all of the scarezones are EXTREMELY tame compared to the houses... the only difference is that kd takes pride in their scarezones, they have giant block letters in their fairy tail sz for example and little mini clown tents for their clown actors to hide in, Youhow could help me with all the rest I'm sure, the point I'm trying to make is KD takes pride in their haunt which (I can't say for sure because I am more excited for HOS than maybe I ever have this year) up until this point BG really hasn't done all that much of... just those of you who havnt checked out HH at KD please just give it a chance before you make jugdments off of other peoples. words, your opinion may be similar or not even differ one bit but at least then it will be YOUR opinion and not just going with the flow

Fear Fair

Country: Italy
On the dark outskirts of the Fair Grounds near Festa Italia, a traveling carnival is waiting under a stained and tattered big top. Lift the flaps of the tent and discover the macabre—a fantastic collection of freaks, psychotic clowns and other insane oddities that defy human explanation. Will your sides split with laughter? Or will you turn around and run for your life? Either way, you’ll quickly understand why this evil carnival is doomed to wander the Italian countryside … never stopping in the same village twice.

ALSO A NEW SCARE ZONE

Grin and Scare It

Country: Italy
Go ahead. Step right up to the creepiest show on earth. A traveling carnival has just crawled into Festa Italia, and you’ll be one of the very first guests to see what terrible traps these carnies have in store. As they unpack boxes brimming with ghastly tricks, the high-pitched laughter of evil clowns echo from the shadows. At this sinister circus, you won’t be calling for an encore.
