RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

I feel like there should just be a set suggested age, and if you decide to not listen, your on your own. People will catch on soon enough. To cater to families, do more for the young kids during the day, then have the change over between 5-6 to allow young ones to leave. Maybe even having a few mazes scaled down a bit during the day. I feel like this would help bring in both crowds and be a win-win all around.

And I really don't know how much security can/will help, but I feel there should be more to help direct and speed up those slowing everything down. Thats the only way I can think of fixing the issue, other than not allowing those under a set age in the mazes...

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

I remember I went a seven years back when I was 10, and they had a little maze during the day for kids. It' wasn't scary at all, but it was just a kid attraction. I think that they should put an age suggestion on the mazes. I also agree on the whole security thing. If a security guard sees kids being obnoxious (by stopping and not moving or acting rude to the actors) they should escort them out of the maze. Isn't that what they are there for anyway?

I fully support the houses ranked by age. The problem is that people will ignore them. The recommended ages work when kids have parents there, but it's not the kids with parents present that cause the problems, it's the group of 12 year olds that has been sent off on their own.

You'd be surprised I think. I'd bet there'd be parents who wouldn't allow their 12-13 year olds go off on their own if they even thought they'd sneak into 18+ houses.

And I talk to alot of parents there whose biggest question is: is X too scary for my kid. I've seen parents go into houses with 6 years olds, and I've seen parents tell their 14 year olds that they're "too young" to do any of the houses. It's easy to put the blame on the parents for letting their kids to things that may be age inappropriate. But the blame mostly belongs to the park for not giving parents better guidance on what attractions are appropriate for what ages.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

The blame falls on the parents. The park should do whatever they can do make the decisions easier for the parents to make, but it's ultimately the parent's responsibility. Don't let the offending kids get off the hook though. Like coasterfan said, the security personnel inside the mazes need to exercise their power to remove people as well.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

I remember one younger group in front of me trying to scare the scare actors. I guess security got word of the kids and removed them, but that was the only time I had seen someone removed from a maze. Every time there was a back up, security just stands there.

And I also agree its the parents responsibility. The park does plenty to warn of whats in store. As we all know though, some parents aren't very smart, nor are they taking in to consideration others in the park. This is when the park needs to step in and remove these kids.

I'm pretty sure Monster Stomp and Frankenrock were rated 4 pumpkins. If you saw one of these with your 7 year old then saw that Cursed is also 4 pumpkins could you really be blamed for taking your kids in?

See, Im arguing that I honestly dont think they can keep it up... The people on facebook page CLEARLY arent enthusiast, atleast most of them, and the bad comments clearly outweighed the good. People arent happy with BGW. They arent...

So I wonder what the response will be to this year's Howl-O-Scream. You can sit here and argue they wont change it, they very well may not... But to say people are happy with it is a whole other thing. It's broken. We know this, the parkgoers know this. When will it start hurting their business?

Give me a second. LOLOLOLOL. People that rant and vent on Facebook are the same ones who rant, vent, and complain when it comes to anything and everything. Those posts are taken with an extremely small grain of salt. The Facebook page is there to advertise and not take surveys. That is what the official site is for and the exit surveyors.

^ This.

I'm tired of walking behind 10 and 11 year old girls who just stop moving because something scared them. Stuff like that ruins houses for everyone.

Those kids are the least of a maze's problems. The ones that ruin it are the egocentric 18-35 year olds that are determined to "not be scared" then get scared and get in the actor's face and back the line up. As well as when they decide to hit an actor(s) and everything has to be held up/people removed to deal with it.

Question for the "adults only" crowd out there: Would you be able to deal with maybe only 2 over 18 suggested houses, 2-3 over 13 houses and at least one 8-12 age houses? If they actually put age suggestions on the houses (which I have no problem with and actually think most parents would welcome because many are looking for that type of guidance) but that meant fewer "hard-core" houses, would that be a fair compromise?

I think that is a fair compromise. I personally would like to have slightly differing scares mazes with different intensities. Can start out with mild and when I get my adrenaline revved up I can go to the extreme scare maze! The park attempted this last year by making Pompeii during the day free of scare actors and advertized it for younger participants. This is a good way to mild the scares.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

I worked Howl O Scream in 2006 around the train in the graveyard but we shared a break room with the Sleepy Hollow scare actors. Let's just say that even if Busch put an age suggestion on there park map there will be the stupid parents who will bring there kids in the house anyway. I remember scare actors complaning about parents doing this and trying to wave the scare actors to not scare there 2 year old. That right there I hate, made them scare them even more just because. Complain all they want it's not going to do any good at Guest Relations LOL Do people really think that Busch Gardens managers are going to scold an employee for scaring a child not one bit

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

^ This is the main issue I think the no children crowd has. That the kids and thus parents are getting in the way of the scares that are already there.

Okay... You know what, my point is that it could be a whole lot better. Instead of grouping everyone into the category of "complainer" Maybe, just maybe some people are truly dissatisfied with the event. They sure as heck changed Jack is Back last year after the first week, it was a completely different show and the feedback on the facebook page over how lame it was last year(first week) was phenomenal. I'd like to think that would have had something to do with the changes, because pretty much what everyone complained about is EXACTLY what they changed.

Busch may be some ignorant company that doesnt take every ounce of feedback from wherever they can get it. The facebook page may very well be ignored... But that is FREE feedback. It'd be just plain dumb and ignorant to ignore. You expect me to believe that just because they have exit surveys and guest relations they are gonna completely ignore a large stream of complaints on their FB page?

There is alot wrong with HOS, Regardless if the park makes money off of it or not. If people are truly dissatisfied with it, people will not pay for it and people wont spend money in the park, especially all the fall funcarders and season pass people who seem to make up a majority of the HOS crowd. One day, It's going to hurt them. One day people are going to say they have had enough until it meets back up to their expectations.

Those that are truly dissatisfied could easily be thrown to the wayside for those that sit on the exit ramp for hours waiting to get in because it is at capacity. In this case Business > Morals.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

I agree, but I highly doubt that they'll actually do anything about it until they do start seeing it impact their attendance. If the park is reaching capacity almost every day, what motivation do they have to change anything? They don't. If their attendance this year turns out to be less than last year, I could see changes being made. If they have the same success, they'll probably keep doing what they currently are.

So, if the two parks have the same theme, what if the houses at both parks are needed to figure out the whole story? Stay with me. The girl that pops up on BGW looks like it could be the cloaked person on BGT's-just more zombieish. So could the story start with us here and progress down to Tampa? How awesome would it be if two fansites had to work together, to figure out what really happened to this girl? The parks could have challenges at each park each week giving a little bit more information and then we would have to work together with the unique information given to each of us. Think of what USO did with the Legendary Truth back in 2008/2009, but just with hundreds of miles between us.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

Too creative for BGW's HOS department, I think. Neat idea though.

I don't mean to sound too down on HOS at BGW, but they're not going to go too far outside the box.
