RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

It said, "this year is going to be one of our scariest yet." They said that last year

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

HOSInsider say for the 1st time In park history BGW and BGT with experience the darker side of the gardens.

BGT is saying the zombies will live there this HOS.. Wonder if BGW is expecting the same?

LOL, they do. I hope it is actually true this year; maybe it will be since it's their 13th anniversary? :)
It might actually be true this year. Judging from reviews Tampa's HOS has always been scarier. Now that they have the same themes, Williamsburg may get up to the same scary level as Tampa.

^ Spoiler: It won't be. They have a separately ticked event. We don't.

This. But I do hope they go with the 13yr and older gig Tampa has. I feel like trying to be family friendly is very counter-productive. Plus it might thin out the crowds a bit so they aren't hitting capacity by 4pm. Getting more people in the park who actually have money in their pockets the better for them.

I don't know. Families spend more money in the park than young couples or adults. Think about all the time that we are riding coasters and other rides. They are in stores, dining areas, photos with sesame street characters, etc.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

True about the families bit. That doesnt mean you should dumb down your Halloween festival to accommodate them... They might as well not have howl-o-scream if they continue on like they did last year... If they created experiences that people wanted to pay for because they are that much better, Even had unique Halloween shopping items and such, Im sure they could make more money.

Also, they should charge for Howl-O-Scream. Even if they have to start out at something modest like 10 bucks(if you buy a day ticket, $35 or something like that for only HOS), and raise it to 20 the year after that. Im sure they'd be able to afford the scariness Tampa offers, Whilst simultaneously making up the money lost by having families not attend, AND when there's a family at the ticket window trying to buy tickets for HOS there can be a big ol strict warning that HOS is not intended for children given in person.

But anyway, if the two parks are sharing a theme, Perhaps trickles of designs and things for Tampa's HOS can make their way over to BGW. If they were to indeed do this, I can imagine them saving some sort of money instead of designing two completely different events and having to pay all the fees associated with designing two different things. It's probably not likely... But i'd say it's a possibility.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

Family friendly not family friendly. They hit capacity by 3/4 o'clock 75% of the days last year.. That is what matter to them.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

I love the feel of the site! I also feel strongly that the gutting of pompeii will result in the theme's house. It just feels like one of the simple but still effective things bgw would do.
They are probably going to utilize a lot of hanging vines in there and obstructions to give us unexpected scares. :D :D

And in Wicked Woods the scariest part IMO was the line of statues where "you don't know which is the real one" and judging by the site I can see that tactic being used in the theme house as well.

Given that there are only 5 houses.. hopefully they will try to space them all out and make them a pretty decent size..

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

I think spacing them out would be good, and increasing the scares around the park and not just in the houses.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

My favorite part of Howl O Scream is the 6 mos of complaining about family friendly vs. not family friendly.

Just like my favorite part of Christmastown is 3 mos of passholders complaining that they should get in free.

:p

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

Yep yep that's true and don't get families started on paying the same price for passports for kids as adults. You would open a whole a can of worms you would like to put back :D LOL

Park usually clears out of the kiddies by 8 or so.

So, you make a killing by having guest in your park who aren't staying for your Halloween event and put on a so-so Halloween event for the guest who are staying so you don't piss off the guest who make no intention of staying for said event. Seems uneven if you ask me.

Im all in favor of closing the park at 5 and reopening at 6 or something. The only problem is I dont know where they would send the guest who intend on staying for HOS. It's a huge problem too if you think about it.

Either way I just dont understand why they cant make it scary. Makes no sense at all. Do like KD and have "Kiddie HOS" earlier in the day, and have it end 2 hours before "Real HOS" begins...

Cater to both markets. Seperately.

Far more stay than you think.. FAR MORE. In the day of dwindling private haunted houses and no REAL competition in the immediate are then I see now reason why any MAJOR change of operations or hours would occur. Once again, the attendance for HoS is through the roof.
