Even today, night rides are amazing.  From the back turn you get the most amazing view of the park.

After riding the Grizzly for so many years in the pitch black, I loathe seeing other parts of the park from any point during a night ride. So IMO, Grizzly night rides are lame now and have been since Hurler and Wayne's World cleared out a good chunk of trees that kept it hidden in the dark for a dozen years.

Yep- I rode Grizzly today. The first and second hills were retracked, and both were glass smooth. The ride was running beautifully on the newly-tracked portions, as if she were an entirely new coaster. The rest of the coaster is still its good old rattly self, though.

The station also a received a completely new floor. Plenty of pictures are coming in a new blog post soon!

You guys really aren't kidding about this ride wanting to throw you off. That was an amazing amount of airtime. Agree that the new wood portions are really nice and smooth, but after drop #2, it's time to hold on tight. I'd imagine this is what the bull riders feel like. We rode front row, mid and back row. Of the three, middle probably worst. Front two cars very smooth. Orange train seems clunkier than the yellow. They also had a maintenance issue and had to close a seat off due to a seat belt not locking. About a 10 minute incident. Very fun experience and the wife thought it her favorite one in the park.

I am at the park and just rode Grizzly it looked to me like there was more work done to it and felt more smooth but it was also an almost empty train.

I enjoy riding Grizzly more at night time. I like how it goes through the woods and it's small tunnel section. However, the park could create something much better. This may have been discussed, so forgive me for not wanting to read through all the previous post. I know we briefly scraped the surface on KD fans. Anyone ever thought that the park could knock down both Grizzly and Hurler and it's place install a much bigger wooden coaster? I thought it was cool how SFDK converted Roar into The Joker. I'll provide a link. And I know we've all heard about Mystic Timbers at KI. A Mystic Timbers may require KD to expand further south than what Grizzly already stretches, along with using the space that Hurler sits on. But it would be worth it. What do you all think.

It's kind of late for that! Are you reading the Hurler thread on the Rumors section? Actually the footprint of Hurler is larger than for Roar, though the layout is much less complex. They may complexify the layout or just stick more in at a bunch of spots ... Somehow combining the 2 coasters would be a huge coaster but sort of forced, and actually making it all better and different is almost the opposite of the The Beast -like sprawl that would result.

As to the park's space, the Grizzly works very well at heading away from the main section of the park, too bad Hurler wasn't made snaking away from the walking areas as well, or at least turned 90 degrees, rather than using up a long border of the park and coming so close to Grizzly. Mystic Timbers is cool the way it heads out from that park, actually looking at KI's layout it seems like a lot of it is layed out that way. Back to KD, I think actually expanding the main area (walking) of the park is problematic and just too big unless there's a big increase of customers (possibly along with surrounding population).

That's an extremely large space for a wooden coaster. Mean Streak would easily fit in that location and we all know that is getting RMC treatment right now. A single wood coaster on the footprints of both Grizzly and Hurler would be a maintenance nightmare as well.

It's best to leave Grizzly as is and wait for Hurler's RMC conversion for next year.

Grizzly's biggest problem is that people can't find it. I get approached by more random guests asking where Grizzly is than for any other ride in the park, and I wholly blame that on the coaster's entrance being hidden behind the Dino Store with only a poorly-visible sign denoting its location.

I think the park should remove the t-rex statue outside the Dino Store and replace it with the stone Grizzly statue currently located outside the ride entrance. A prominent wooden marquee above the statue with the ride's logo and a big arrow that says "Entrance through Dino Store" would hopefully catch people's attention and point them in the right direction.

I recall having trouble finding it before Dinosaurs Alive, as well. It is just out of the way. People have always had to know to go looking for it, I think.

That said, I agree that hiding it behind a gift shop, makes it that much more difficult to see.

I would love to see a GCI retrack of Grizzly similar to Ghostrider but I don't see Cedar Fair pulling out the cash to do an overhaul like that for Grizzly.

I'm with you on that, and I want to see Grizzly get some major work. But I can't see them doing that for a while after just doing Twisted Timbers. Plus they are continually doing retracking work with Racer. It's a tough situation that all 3 woodies really need work, but they did the ones that need the work first.
