Fun fact: I was actually asked to be in the Griffin ads/commercials/random stock photos. Basically I would have riden the ride over and over before it was open to the public. Sadly, I couldn't make it that weekend. How cool would that have been?

That sucks you couldn't ride it.

My best Griffon experience was on media day on May 16, 2007. I was selected to go to the first session from 5 a.m.- 9 a.m. and was one of the first riders to get on. The people selected for this session were suppose to check-in at the park by 4 a.m. as this group were the ones to "warm-up" the ride before all the media showed up. We were actually riding by 4:30 a.m. so my first ride was actually a night ride. The only lights around were in Aquitaine and the brewery as the rest of the park was pitch black since it was closed off. I got several dozen rides that day!

Did anyone else here go on media day?

So, I don't ride Griffon (I'm a baby:)), but we rode the sky ride a couple weeks ago from Aquatine to Rhinefeld and I looked in the trench that the ride goes in under the bridge and that area is UGLY!! The plants down there are sad and, well, dead. They really don't take very good care of the plants around Griffon. By now, the plants should be overgrown (in a semi-controlled way). Trees should be bigger, but they aren't. The park needs to make it look more like Sheikra, overgrown and with cool theming elements and buildings. :)

The plants in Griffon's trench always look like that. It's hard to keep them healthy when you have gigantic coaster trains traveling at 70+ mph flying directly on top of them all day long. They produce a strong wind shear right onto those plants.

I would add that is is much easier to create and maintain lush foliage in Florida than Virginia. In fact, the problem in Florida is preventing the flora and fauna from taking over. Especially the bugs. Yuck.

Yeah that's a downfall down there in Florida. The bugs are plentiful AND gigantic!

It's weird driving around there and seeing so many residential pools with screen enclosures!

They also heavily spray around the Griffon area with the stuff to make the dead leafs decay faster. Thank junk smells strong and gives us headaches in the spring. Dead leafs were never a problem to me before. I really do not like the new sterile look of just mulch all over the place.

When, and why, did the signs over Griffon go away?

Found some interesting concept art for Griffon.
griffonart2.jpg

I can't quite put my finger on it, but for some reason it looks much better here than how the ride looks in real life.

That's what I thought. Griffon still looks very awkwardly placed, like they just picked it up and plopped it down in its location the other day. Why, Verbolten is already starting to fit into its new location better than Griffon is. It's too bad, too--they certainly have (and still have, if they work hard and put their minds to it) a lot of potential to make that area look stunning. That concept art really wows me--it would look amazing and very unique in person.

That said, the station building itself in real life looks very good, and lives up to the concept art.

What happened to the flowers? There are so many flowers in the artwork, but none in real life. Griffon could really use some of that.

If there's anything I learned from my mom's crazy gardening skills its that flowers do not like wind, at all. One train passing through every minute at 70 mph is not going to help them grow, in fact it'll do the exact opposite.
