RE: Gloria! (Christmas Town 2011)

Saw the show today; it was okay, but a bit too gospel-y for my taste. I liked the moving stages and live orchestra, but some of the singing was questionable and the storyline was rather predictable.

Greatest reason not to like a gospel-centered Christmas show ever. :p
Ziggy Zoggy Ziggy Zoggy Oui Oui Oui! If you see this, don't talk about it here- go to the proper thread under Rumors
I saw it again on Monday and spent the whole time thinking "Wait, what?". I picked up on a lot of things this time that I hadn't before such as the terribly long pauses during a few parts of the show, the absolute ridiculousness of all the backup singers leaving the stage only to return literally like 15 seconds later, etc. As for the singing- I don't think there's a single person in that show that was given the correct part for their voice but I do still think that they all have great voices- quite possibly the best vocal lineup the park has ever had. Hopefully we'll see a few of them make it into next year's big new show...

I thought the show was wonderful.

Same here. The moving stage was a little odd, but we enjoyed the performance more than the show they had in there for the first two years.

I thought the moving stage was odd, but I think they used it in the right spots and it was not over used...

RE: Gloria! (Christmas Town 2011)

the moving stage is extremely technical....several things have to happen at the exact same time flawlessly to make it work. you can reference the first couple of weeks to notice that didnt happen...not to mention the changes between scenes...also extremely technical and have to run flawlessly....I think the show is way too involved for a theme park... Good try busch, but you may have stepped too far this time...perhaps with greater planning and more time to rehearse? :(

This part actually makes since if you think about it. Mary and Joseph have to get to back to get into the manger scene. Of course they could walk off stage... but that would just be boring haha

I would say it is better than Rejoice. I personally felt like sleeping through Rejoice, at least with Gloria! they tried to do something more than just chanting and such. Plus, they probably were really trying to show off their technical talent. It was a really good show, and it probably will stay for a few seasons, however I would rather see a different story. The technical aspect were great, but if used in another type of show with a better story and maybe original music for once, it would be great. Out of all the shows I think this one I would rate as my 2nd or 3rd favorite Christmas Town show to see.

It reminds me of Celtic Fyre. I wasn't so excited about it at first, but it has grown on me. I think Gloria! might be that way too.

Gloria. I did like the show (except for the moving stage). Agree that it's leaps and bounds ahead of Rejoice.

I loved every part of the show except for the only real slide show song that is right before the last song. It certainly is more uplifting then Rejoice. Rather have gospel songs than chanting monks :p

Aside from the full orchestra, I didn't like it; it was like the cast of RENT was putting on a Christmas pageant.

I didn't like the slide shows, and didn't get the female counterparts to the magi. I actually preferred BGT's holiday entertainment this year...

Well, I looked at it like this, the slide show was really just with one song, the rest was lighting effects, which were used very differently, and may not be necessary but definitely look cool. As for the 3 Kings song, I think of it like the 3 Kings wives singing.

Gloria! 2012

Improvements & problems that seem to have been addressed from last year:
- The slideshow has been replaced (for the most part) by slicker videos.
- Toned down the constant use of the moving platforms.
- The mixing of fog with lighting on the screen gives the images on stage an almost 3D feel to them. Very cool.

Things I still do not like:
- During one segment towards the end, there are three singers around the room in the crowd. It seems like a good idea, unless you happen to be sitting next to one of them and have to stare at their back-end for five minutes.
- The last segment of the show is an upbeat R&B number that is completely out of place.
- There is always a really long waiting line for this show. It is too darn popular; especially with the older crowd.

For me, this show is OK. It is not great, nor is it bad, and is my least favorite AGAIN this year. I have seen it once this season, and will not go out of my way to see it again. I may give it another viewing later in the year. It is popular because of its topic and it is indoors away from the cold. Get in line for this show early and be prepared to wait a long time.

Is this the 'Do you see what I see' song?

I did think it was totally different than the rest of the show, but the actors/singers really got into it, which made it kinda cool.

I think that is the one. It's not that it is a bad song or performance, it just totally changes the flow and feeling of the show. For me, it feels very much out of place. I am sure that many people like it just fine.

I recently posted a video of the show on youtube. This was filmed on an iPhone 5, so I might try to get a better/less shaky video later. Anyway here it is.http://youtu.be/EGg3QrcmHd4
Next time I want to try filming at maybe two different angles. Does anyone have any suggestions for the final video?
