RE: Cedar Fair announces $50M investment in Carowinds

Furee25. It's got a better ring than INTRIMIDATOR and Borg ASSimilator. I'm still praying that the 65 mph rumor from the county discussions is not true. 300 ft+ drop with the speed of a 150 ft drop? Yeah, shove it.

Curious if they have finished all of the restaurant renovations. When we went in April only two restaurants in the park were open at all, the rest were being renovated.

This is interesting and a little bit of a surprise. A Charlotte, NC paper is reporting that a new park general manager has been appointed for Carowinds.

The article states that the former general manager, Bart Kinzel, resigned last month. Remember Bart is the son of the former Cedar Fair CEO Dick Kinzel. Bart was appointed GM during his fathers tenure as CEO.

Hmmmm . . coincidence or cleaning house?

New Carowinds GM named.

Does anybody know more specifics about their coaster announcement? Other than the fact that it is today.

RE: Cedar Fair announces $50M investment in Carowinds

It's called Fury 325.(I'm sorry, but what a terrible name) And it's themed to a hornet, bee or wasp, or just something that stings.

RE: Cedar Fair announces $50M investment in Carowinds

Specifics about the announcement, not the coaster. What time? where i can view it? things of that nature.

RE: Cedar Fair announces $50M investment in Carowinds

Oh, sorry no luck there. Have you checked their facebook or website? Still, it's a terrible name.

RE: Cedar Fair announces $50M investment in Carowinds

Thanks....found it on the website. Facebook is crap :)

Track is a two-tone blue and yellow, 100% B&M track. No clue what the supports will be colored.

nope.

RE: Cedar Fair announces $50M investment in Carowinds

To be honest Yellow Jacket or Screamin' Hornet would be a better name for this ride but as long as those trains look nice and it isn't trimmed I'll settle with giving it a pet name.

RE: Cedar Fair announces $50M investment in Carowinds

Sorry, the picture I saw was posted with stupid filters and in low quality, so it looked more green to me.

In case others didn't figure it out you can catch the livestream at 11am EDT Thursday (Aug 20th) at carowinds.com.

Some people were talking about the coaster being themed to the Charlotte Hornets.

Here's their jerseys for next year:

That blue is close, but the yellow doesn't match. Not buying that rumor.

RE: Cedar Fair announces $50M investment in Carowinds

supports are likely going to be white i believe but i do not know if that is confirmed. Also looks like they are going to have the nice Leviathan type trains and not the staggered seating like Diamondback and Behemoth. Still no word on whether seat belts will be used though. I am hoping they will not mainly because Leviathan is able to leave the station every 45 seconds, more or less, with a full train. I am base that off of the count down clock above the LED seating chart. It does also sound like they took the tunnel out of their plans perhaps, which I was really looking forward to seeing the outcome of. Both MF an Leviathan both seem like a let down with just an above ground "tunnel" IMO, so I had high hopes. Oh well.

Leviathan's is partially below ground mainly because it's first drop dives into a sinkhole in what was the parking lot. I was expecting Fury's tunnel to actually dip underground before that over banked horseshoe to return back to North Carolina.

Fury 325!
Carowinds to Reach Exciting New Heights

The world’s tallest and fastest giga coaster will connect the beloved Carolina park’s historic past with its thrilling future

Charlotte, NC  – For more than 40 years, Carowinds has been the place where the Carolinas come together. It’s where the Tar Heel State and the Palmetto State meet. It’s where families and friends bond over thrilling rides and entertainment. Carowinds will now unite its storied history with its future as the standard for thrills by unleashing Fury 325, the world’s tallest and fastest giga coaster.

Fury 325 will simulate the wild, daring and spontaneous flight of the hornet. The new ride will be visible from uptown Charlotte, renewing the park’s skyline and serving as a symbol of changes to come. Fury 325 is part of a planned $50 million dollar multiyear investment to bring new life to founder Pat Hall’s original vision for Carowinds. The park will be revamped from top to bottom to celebrate Carolina culture including new rides and attractions, signature Carolina food offerings and entertainment. Opening in Spring 2015, Fury 325 will be the centerpiece of a new 8.2 acre main entrance plaza that includes a state-of-the-art ticketing and season pass processing area and expanded guest service facilities.

“Starting with Fury 325, we plan to make Carowinds a destination for thrillseekers to celebrate the Carolinas,” says Mike Fehnel, Carowinds vice president and general manager. “The new ride will build on the heritage of the park, creating new memories and traditions for our loyal fans and future guests from around the world.”

Riders will board into three 32-passenger open air trains and begin their ascent to the top of a 325-foot (over 30 stories) hill. This immense hill is followed by an exhilarating 81 degree first drop. Like an angry hornet chasing its target, Fury 325 will race through a series of hills, curves and quick transitions while reaching speeds of up to 95 miles per hour. Riders will speed along 6,602 feet of track during the nearly three and one half minute ride.

“The tradition of the park is so important to those who have grown up here,” says Fehnel. “It’s long overdue that we gave our fans a new energy surrounding Carowinds, which will build on our legacy as the premiere entertainment destination for generations of Carolinians.”

Those who can’t wait until Spring 2015 to experience Fury 325 can take a virtual ride at carowinds.com/fury325 where they can also check out photos, virtual renderings, ride stats and more. This Fall, fans can purchase a 2015 season pass or renew current season passes for the lowest price of the year at carowinds.com. Fury 325 is designed and manufactured by Bolliger and Mabillard (B&M) of Monthey, Switzerland, a recognized industry leader in roller coaster development and the same firm that brought Vortex to Carowinds in 1992, Afterburn in 1999, and The Intimidator™ in 2010.

Carowinds is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, a publicly traded partnership that is listed for trading on The New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "FUN." In addition to Carowinds, Cedar Fair owns and operates ten other amusement parks including Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH, three water parks, one indoor water park, and five hotels. Cedar Fair also operates the Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park in California under a management contract.
