Forest of Fun 5th Birthday

Moving this from CK's meetup thread, I do think it wasn't the wisest choice to schedule this on the same weekend that KD opens up. I mean, I'm sure it won't make an enormous difference, but some more planning ahead could have at least made them a few extra hundred $$$ off this event.

I'm going this weekend, but there is no way in hell that I'll be going to see Elmo Rocks. I really wish I could go to KD this weekend, but sadly I can only go to BGW.
While everybody is rocking it out in the rotting FOF, and the furry concert in San Marco, I'll be in LOTD taking pictures, all by myself, for a photo update.

Is there really a huge crossover between FoF and KD visitors? I think in general the people who are interested in Elmo -- families with small children -- probably aren't all that likely to attend the opening of a park that is still primarily known for thrill rides.
Before anyone gets spun up, because KD is trying to change its image and has a new kids area, it still has a certain reputation. That may or may not change, but for now, I think the demographics are still generally different.

No, there is not a huge overlap as I see it. However, my family probably would be attending BGW if it weren't for KD. I'd say we spend more than $100 dollars at the park when ever we visit (I know, I know... ), so if just two other families made the same choice we did, that already more than 300 easy dollars lost. It's really no biggie, though- just pointing that out.
Hey- those $300 could have warranted us a few days without the need for water blasters!

Since Elmo Rocks is on Today, i don't know if I'm spoiling it but from @BehindTheThrills I saw that SeaWorld Orlando has the show (probably daily). But here is the link for the full Elmo Rocks Show:

I'm sorry, but it makes so much more sense to celebrate the anniversary of a hamlet than a coaster. This is a chance for them to advertise and have a mini speacial event. How exactly would you have an event for the Loch Ness monster that would apeal to anyone other than super fans?
Actually I think a lot of people who aren't "superfans" love Nessie and would want to celebrate her anniversary. I personally could care less about Forest of Sceaming Children. In fact in general I am personally more interested in the ride anniversaries than any of the hamlets.

They did very little for Nessie last year. They gave out cheap t-shirts, some cookies with green frosting and did a "first ride of the day" photo. At least Nora made a banner! No real fanfare the rest of the day for the old girl.
The start of the celebration did not go as planned. Apparently there was supposed to be a marching band leading the way for the Sesame Street characters to Forest of Fun. The marketing department dropped the ball with the band and left them clueless as to where to go, set-up, or what to do.
The characters walked to Forest of Fun, once there a 1 minute dance party starts, followed by singing Happy Birthday and then free cookies and milk. It is all together maybe a 5 minute celebration. The turnstiles opened late this morning and the turnstiles opened immediately at 10AM with Scotland, Ireland, France and New France opened at the same time.
Elmo Rocks! is not that bad for a Sesame Street show. I heard it was completely produced by Sesame Place and the Entertainment department was directed to perform the show exactly to Sesame Place's commands. They have stroller parking which gets over packed. They are selling plush Sesame Street toys, bubble guns, Elmo Spinners, and Cotton Candy at the show.
Do not worry, there has been little to no stage changes or sets for Elmo Rocks and the set is actually extremely bland. Though I'd still watch this rock show over Frankenrock any day.

I remember the day FOF opened because it was my moms birthday so I remember it like the back of my head. Didn't they pull up the train and all the characters got off?
I beleive the old saying is, "the back of my hand," not head.
