F&WF preparations began last week, but seem to be in full swing this weekend.

Key Points:

The structure of the new whiskey(I think that's what it is :p) tasting booth has been added in time for this weekend.

The new French Quarter booth has taken shape, with iron design plates in the front, and a new brick covering on the booth.

The new France(not to be confused with New France) booth has been put out near the Josephine's sitting area. Fun Fact: this is actually what used to be the Germany beer booth, Germany will most likely be one booth this year instead of its normal two.

The new East Asia booth has been put out and work seems to be ongoing.

The booth in France looks super cute. Also, I feel like a dummy for asking, but where was the whiskey booth picture taken at? Was there Sunday and I must have missed that one.

EDIT: Never mind, I see the sheep sign so it is in Scotland. Somehow I completely passed by this without noticing!

They wont. Good scotch is 20 dollars for a little more than a shot. And yes I prefer it cold. Whatever that takes. I imagine theirs will be on the mediocre side of mediocre.

Well, if it's garbage whisky then they might as well just fill the rest of the glass with ice and Coke, for peat's sake (see what I did there).

But if it's worth drinking then it's worth tasting, IMO -- no sense in numbing the taste buds if the spirit is fit. My tastes run toward the cask strength, 110+ proof side of things so I am probably a bit belligerent on this topic. To each his own.

Fingers crossed for an interesting dram at F&W.

So I got to try some of the new menu items today. There were some changes to old booths as well as the 2 new ones.

Scotland has lost the Neeps and Tatties and now features Rumbledethumps, which is a vast improvement. Rumbledethumps is basically a root vegetable casserole topped with cheddar. 9/10

Ireland now has a Guinness mousse... which they were out of. Guess that makes it good? ~/10

Scandinavia- unchanged.

Crepes and Coffee- unchanged

French Quarter is a really solid booth, I tried the Muffaletta and the Bananas Foster Cheesecake. Both were good. The New Orleans music was also nice touch while eating on the patio. The Muffaletta had a prominent taste of olives... which might turn some people away, but the cheesecake was good despite not really being bananas foster. 8/10

France- unchanged

Canada- unchanged

American Southwest- unchanged

Caribbean- unchanged

Germany- unchanged... But, overall the food was vastly improved over last year's.

Italy- mostly unchanged, apart from a lack of stuffed prunes. Pity.

Spain lost its hazelnut custard to a hazelnut torte cake. This basic chocolate cake covered in hazelnuts was very forgettable. 5/10

Asia was a surprise hit with me. The food I tried was well flavored and freshly prepared. Somehow it managed not to feel out of place with the surrounding area filled with paper lanterns and traditional Asian music. I only tried the Mushi-Gyoza dumplings and Ginger-Lemongrass custard. The dumplings themselves were very standard, but I loved the sauce they were accompanied by. The custard was frankly amazing; its subtle flavors were deliciously understated and paired well with the richness of the custard itself. 10/10

Greece- unchanged

Overall, it was just as successful as it has been. I look forward to trying all of the other dishes as well as what I believe to be several new cocktails featured throughout. I'd also like to point out that portion size seems more generous than in the past and that the 'booth babes' were in full force this evening.

F&WF opening night last Friday made for a nice evening dinner.  My buddy and I did not see Chef Justin but Chef Jonathan spent about 10 minutes chatting with us in Scotland.  It is too early to judge consistency but overall I would say the park has upped their game this year.  Everything I had was delicious.

I found the Scottish Egg (8/10) delicious but not a great value at $4 for half of an egg.  The Shepherd's Pie (8/10) was a real value for $5 and tasty too.  In Ireland the Bangers with Colcannon (7/10) was tasty but included one giant lump of meat.  The Irish Cheese Sampling (5/10) only included two types of cheese.  The Dubliner cheese was the standout and comprised two of the three samples (one atop a cracker).  A small amount of a sweet raisin relish was included. My next stop was for a Hoegaarden (9/10) in France.  I love Belgian style beers and never find fault with a Hoe.  The wrought iron columns are a nice touch to the area.  The Chicken & Andouille Gumbo (7/10) was tasty although I prefer more fire.  I made a serious error when consuming the Bananas Foster Cheesecake (9/10).  It was delicious but was far too large of a portion.  Take heed: unless the park reduces the amount you will not be eating again for a while.  I split it with a friend and still could eat no more that evening.  When frozen and mixed correctly the Frozen Bushwacker was a favorite last year.  A quick stop at the really attractive Caribbean stand and we were not disappointed with the generous amount of Malibu Rum in this concoction (9/10).

I surrender; while I enjoyed visiting the remaining booths, I could eat or drink no more!

I have made my choices for my first F&W trip this year based on Thomas and Geo's rundown. Going to head down tomorrow for the afternoon. F&W does operate on Friday's right?
