We tend to shy away from drinking anything (officially) during the Food and Wine review so that it does not hinder our judgment.

Whoa, the Bushwacker is back! Still miss the Scotch egg but overall I’m happy with this years menu. The Spanish booth used to have the more expensive items (scallops wrapped with Jamon), so I’ll need to re-evaluate my sampler strategy

I think in all fairness, Virginia is there for people visiting from a distance. International visitors, or those coming from far away might see the Virginia booth as a chance to try our local specialties. Of course those of us who live nearby would want little to do with the booth.

And that's okay.

Went through the menu online this morning. The chocolate lava cake in Mexico is gone! Nooooo! My 7 yr old and I were just dreaming about that the other day!

I'm a little disappointed in the FAR fewer number of dishes available this year. Even not counting Brauhaus or Crepes and Coffee, there's a 25% reduction in the number of food options.

2019 has 32 entrees.
2018 had 39 entrees.

2019 has 11 desserts
2018 had 15 desserts

2019 has 10 non-alcoholic drinks
2018 had 10 non-alcoholic drinks

So this is a 17% decrease. However:

2019 has 82 alcoholic drink options
2018 had 23 alcoholic drink options

I think your math is slightly off there.

By my count if you include Crepes and Coffee and Brauhaus last year there were 56 food items, 52 if you don't count them. This year there are 43 food items. This doesn't count alcoholic or non alcoholic drinks both of which there is an increase this year (9 in 2018 and 11 in 2019 for non alcoholic and too many to count for alcoholic).

If we include Crepes and Brauhaus then that's a reduction of 13 food items. This would be a reduction of 23.2%.

If we don't count Crepes and Brauhaus like you said then there's only a reduction of 9 food items. That's only a reduction of 17.3%.

So depending on how you look it is a 23.2% or 17.3% reduction. Personally I didn't count Crepes or Brauhaus because their menu was basically only an additional item or two to their year round options. That being said with the new menu at Crepes and Coffee this year I think it does qualify as a F&W kiosk.

All of this information came from this this great post by jahrules.

Also this doesn't include the 3 new drink stands that have both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks

Edit: my counts were a little off initially and have been changed

Well you beat me to it apparently. Not sure how our numbers differ but they are outside close. The bottom line is that there isn't a huge reduction this year and most of the items that are gone were items that most of them people I went with didn't enjoy or were interested in trying.

I'm hoping that by removing some unpopular items at some kiosks that they can make them overall more consistent and better quality

Can I ask questions for clarification: Why would Crepes and Coffee change their menu to start selling Italian desserts? Those same desserts were available last year at the Italy booth adjacent to the Marco Polo Marketplace. Plus some of those desserts are currently available inside Marco Polo. Do we know for sure that Crepes and Coffee has changed the menu?

The Italy booth changed to selling Italian entrees. And while it would make sense to continue selling Italian deserts out of the Italy booth; it probably came down to space.

I took my numbers from the spreadsheet I posted at the bottom of page 2. I didn't use a very sophisticated way of counting (basically fingers and toes method) and could have easily made errors here and there.

I did the same thing so I could have also miscounted which I did the first time ?

Crepes and Coffee menu is definitely changing. Not sure if the name will change for F&W. It does largely look like they are moving the items from that kiosk to Crepes.

However the only item that was available at MPM were the cannolis and these are the mini version of those. It makes more sense if you are replicating to at least move it to the other side of the park. It seems to me that these items probably go better with the coffee portion of the menu than the Crepes do.

I'm moderately curious what the souvenir goblets/pilsner cups will look like.

Will each booth have a unique one? Or will it be generic and thus the same for all? I could see arguments for both.

This will be my first FW fest so I have no history to go on. Have they done souvenir FW cups in the past?

Typically the only difference is the cup style between the goblet and pilsner. I'm trying to remember but I think last year they were available at every kiosk that sold either beer or a mixed drink.
