I know things like this aren’t cheap but I’ve always wondered why not do something like this. Have a planetarium like projector , blackout curtains, and light up the room with some projections of galaxies and the like. Then you have the combination of enough light to show track, but you do it in an atmosphere that’s really cool and within the theme of the ride.

Well at least I'm glad I got to experience these things before KD's legal team decided to do away with it. New guests will never know how fun it use to be before all the safety precautions got put in place. But in this whole conversation; I'v gotten lost. How did we come upon this assumption that it's their legal team decided all this? It was a someone's source?
Here's another claim I had heard. There was a ride attendant that me and my buddy had became familiar with during the 2009 pitch black FOF. The very next year we saw him and he was a ride supervisor. So of course the neon floor lights were always on starting in the 2010 season. When I asked about it; an employee told me, we came back to work one day and they were on. Of course I was younger back then so me and my buddy asked if they would turn the lights completely off. They replied by saying "I would, but the door underneath the station is locked". We told him that we knew their supervisor from the previous year and when they asked him if he could, they told me he replied by saying "The maintenance team locks the door underneath the station every morning". This lead us to believe that there is also a switch/breaker underneath the station that controls the neon floor lights.

Personally, I think FOF is best experienced with some light. I’ll never forget my first time riding it- it was impossible to tell which way was right side up and which way was upside down; the whole ride was a totally disorienting sensory experience. This sort of illusion worked because I felt surrounded by glimpses of track and colored light on all sides and all directions, so I felt lost in a jumble of track without any discernible frame of reference.
IMO, they’ve added more light since then, and I agree the excess of light detracts from the total confusion of the ride. But I still think it’s a better experience than bouncing around in total darkness. If I want that, I can just close my eyes.

My first ride was in the total dark with the station effects and queue videos all still working. It was rather great.
Here is a loading station video from back in 2009. It doesn't say whether it's the one at KD or KI. But just take a look at how dark the tunnel is.
You only see one neon light near the station. After that, you can't even see a pinch of light going into that tunnel. The experience we had back then was out of this world.
Anyways. Let's get back to the topic of theme. This was once discussed on the old KDfansite. The park should consider turning the maze into the line queue. I'd really love to see a dark line queue area with enhanced alien theme. Maybe they also add backstory/lore behind Flight of Fear. Similar to the style of Twisted Timbers.

That's nothing. The blunt force trauma the original shoulder bar restraints inflicted to the head wasn't just out of this world... it put you mentally in a completely different galaxy.
I remember the old restraint system. If I'm correct they changed it in 2005 or 2006; right. I use to not like riding flight of fear at all because of the discomfort. When I was little, I use to not like the noise of the launch. And it's funny how it ended up becoming my favorite ride in the park.
As for the actual ride. I feel it still packs a punch. I just hope Cedar Fair See's it the same way that I do. I feel additional theme could be added to remarket the ride. The old Haunt effects are cool. The green lights in the outdoor queue along with the fog are cool. That's from the old Outbreak theme. The maze could easily be incorporated into the queue theme as well. Maybe add some sort of alien autopsy animatronics.
I like how the company took an old ride like Hurler; added some theme and gave it a backstory. The same could be done with FOF. Example.

You'll find this funny, but me and my sis are developing a social media app. I told her if we get rich, I will buy KD and make it the best regional theme park in the mid-Atlantic region.

Maybe I wouldn't build anything on top Volcano's land and just use the extra space for a scary alien maze so that FOF could remain open during the parks October season. Only so many people would go inside the building at a time. Once the pre-show thing is done, you walk up the steps and enter the station as normal. Only this time it's darker, along with a spiel playing as each train is loaded.

The lights dim down to a red color, before the train launches into the utter darkness.
As for FOF, I'd really love to see them re-market the alien theme again. It's definitely not going anywhere right now. ?
Are they going to remove Flight of Fear too? Or is this just about a piece of track on the ride?
I also have a question. Is there anyway to get a copy of Flight of Fear's soundtrack? The one that you hear when you get into the station that has all the little alien noises. I don't know how to describe the sounds.

Unless it's become an unreliable ride using uncommon launch tech that is hard/expensive to find parts for, or for that matter finding parts for the trains and other systems, or that the track has been battered to hell and would be prohibitively expensive to replace would this ride be on the chopping block. That or they really need the space for a blockbuster replacement of Volcano with an area refresh/retheme.
The only thing I could really see being done would be a theming refresh. I don't see a complete retheme just because it's expensive to do for little ROI, and the ride is a park icon so changing it's theme would possibly have some negative repercussions.

As long as the thing opens for 2020, I'm happy. I don't know why but I have so many good memories on this ride. Just waiting in line with my buddies on a Saturday brings back memories. Something about the theme, just does it for me. I have a crazy imagination, so I could always picture there being more areas inside the base that are kept secret. Then there is the radio station show that plays over the P/A system.
Are you talking about the radio broadcast sort of thing that played from the radio tower outside the entrance? I swear I haven’t heard that in years, but maybe I’ve just gone on bad days. Have you heard it recently?
