These ideas are pretty easy for the park to do. However, most regional theme parks don't care about these small details. Most enthusiast know that Disney and Universal are like the only parks that spend money on good theme. But of course; your paying more. KD focuses more on ride performance. I can't complain too much. FOF has very good ride performance, compared to Joker's Jinx. Back on topic!

Idea 1: Virtual Reality Upgrade(Hours: 3pm-7pm).
- Just like Superman Ride of Steel at Six Flags America. The VR experience is only during certain hours. This way, people can still enjoy the open aired scenery of the ride. Not that FOF really has any; but it could use some more theme in the spaghetti bowl. If not; I'd say that the park could run the VR all evening long.

I'd argue that BGW is specifically known for great attention to theming, actually.  Dollywood, as well, is a regional park, which devotes resources to theming.

I'd also argue that FOF has gotten increasingly rough over the past few years.

Finally, I'd personally prefer they turn the lights back off, rather than adding scenery to FOF.

All of that said, if there has to be VR at KD, FOF is probably a good choice.

Pardon me. I forgot BGW. Although, I'd consider them more of a tourist destination. Each time BGW is advertised, it goes along with colonial Williamsburg. Not to say that KD couldn't be considered a tourist destination.

I'm trying not to keep my post repetitive, so I'll include this video in my post. In the video you'll notice the light in front of the train cut off at 0:11; leaving nothing but the purple neon light in direct view of train. That was cool. Now, swap out the purple neon light and put a powerful strobe light there. Ignore music in strobe video. The ride could also do away with the old soundtrack. I'll let you think of a replacement.

Anyone else tired of the park using FOF's queue for mazes? I am. They've done aliens, alien viruses(Outbreak), prison and Blackout. What else will they do? In my honest opinion; they should leave the ride open. I'm not sure if Kings Island does the same thing with their FOF, but if they don't; I give them a thumbs up.

(Alternative Maze Idea)
In the video link below, a park employee shows us FOF. I want to focus on the beginning of the video. Notice all the space around FOF's building. I always thought it would have been easier for the park to weave a maze course around the building. This could easily be done by gutting out the old photo booth stand and making it a small queue. As for the maze; the park could get real creative. Do a half indoor/outdoor and run it all the way around the back of the building. The maze exit would be over near the benches on the side of FOF's queue entrance. As for the theme; they could do whatever they wanted. A revamp of Alien Outpost or possibly a much more improved Miner's Revenge.

I'd like to see them combine the two themes. A company was mining for gold and accidentally uncovered an underground alien hideout.

Glad you brought up the on ride photo. I wish I had gotten one while they were available, I suppose the camera flash had something to do with its removal. The park has plenty of options for maze locations, I'm not sure Flight Of Fears exterior would be first choice. As good as Miners Revenge was, I don't think we will see anything similar to it in the state of Virgina.

From what people tell me; the ride photo was no longer making money anymore. Same for the one that Joker's Jinx use to have. FOF opened in 1996; so people have had many years to get photos from it. As for Miner's Revenge; I remember the criticism it got. People disliked it, due to the West Virginia mine accident in 2010; right? As for the exterior area; I feel that would be the perfect spot for a maze. It seems like a lot of walking; but it's really not. The line queue would take up some of the space and along with the backstage area for the scare actors. With all the excitement going on; you'd be at the halfway point before you'd know it.

Picture this. Imagine the beginning being tall corn stalks; similar to cornstalkers. After so many yards or so, you find yourself in a small barn; with a spiel playing on old radio, warning trespassers not to proceed any further. "There is danger ahead. Please turn back if you want to live". After that; you enter the whole Alien Outpost theme. Only now you can add citizens in distress, military staff and creepier alien theme. And after you exit the maze; your right near FOF's queue entrance. Why not ride the ride too. See how that works!

You will never see a maze in the area between FoF and Volcano. For one there is a rather steep hill in that area you would have to walk down first. The other thing is that area is susceptible to having things thrown from Volcano into it. There are plenty of other areas in the park they could use for a maze, but this isn't one of them.

Overall, I just feel it's time for the park to spice the theme to the ride up. I always enjoyed the busy Saturdays, standing in the line with friends. The queue area is still a good anticipation before you get on the ride. The flying saucer could use a fresh facade and interior makeover. I always felt that there should have been a lot more in there to look at.

I agree. The queue this year is in the worst condition I've ever seen it. The bright maintenance lights are always on, which not only kills the mood but also reveals that the props are literally falling apart. Even the "white noise" soundtrack is missing in the Saucer Hangar area- it's only audible in the area above the steps leading to the station.

It's such a shame what the queue has come to because it should be so easy to fix. Change the lighting, pipe in some music, and and change the godawful content on the FunTVs and the queue is good as new.

Sadly, in its current state the queue legitimately looks like a storage warehouse.

It looks like the park is taking the old Six Flags America attitude. They know a lot of that stuff needs to be fixed; but unless it's effecting the ride, it isn't a priority to them. To be honest though; the maintenance lights could easily be turned off by the morning ride crew. Maintenance probably leaves them on all night and when the park opens; they're still on. Just like when a light is on in your house. Unless you were the one that turned it on, you may not feel it's your priority to turn it off. Kind of funny.

As for the white noise soundtrack; I'm assuming you mean the one that's heard inside the station? The one with all the cool alien sounds and dings? Or are you talking about the subwoofer inside the saucer? If it's that; one of the subwoofers may have just gone bad over the years. In my honest opinion; the subwoofer can get a little annoying. The whole flying saucer needs a new SFX playlist. Maybe every 15 minutes the subwoofer should start up and play for maybe 6 minutes and then phase out to something else.

Since I've never been on fof before, does anyone know what the spaghetti bowl section of the ride is supposed to represent in terms of the coasters alien theme?

I don't understand why the ride operator's microphone in the station is coming through the speakers in the cue line. There's no reason for it and it seems odd. On most rides there are different zones for the speakers in different areas. Some of the audio equipment must be broken or else there's a switch thrown somewhere that no one has noticed.

Rode this after the 45 min wait yesterday. Pictures of the station, cause why not? They said if flash is on, it actually screws over the sensors. It was weird but whatever.

Anyone else remember the old radio announcements that used to play from the satellite tower outside the hangar? It's been a good five years since I last heard it, but it was such a neat little touch. I wonder if the park has any easy way of bringing that back.
