RE: Fiends (2011 to Present)

I wouldn't have cared given all of the other things worthy of complaint, but it was a hot topic that I defiantly had an opinion on.

And... they bedazzled and made the bras/bustiers lace-y. Why the hell did they bedazzle them?? I don't understand, their breasts are out there enough already, you don't have to make them sparkle, trust me people already know they're there.

Some people just want to see the world burn.

And that show could have gone a lot better. :/

I don't care for the nurse's bras at all. The references could have been done without. (I like the Fido brain a lot more than Justin Beiber's.) The Doctor's like "It's hard being this brilliant, and good looking." Could have been done without. I prefer the line from Igor last year. "Not those parts! Those parts."

What was with the Werewolf?? He just stood there. He jumped around a little, but he wasn't using the stage. Hungry Like the Wolf isn't some "Pity me" song from a musical, it's demanding. He should be moving around the stage more. The nurses being all over him, was much better last year when they were all afraid of him. Because that's what the Doctor wanted, he wanted fear, not fawning over creatures that aren't him.

And I don't find the Doctor to be, as frightening?? He looks more the type to play a father, not a mad scientist. But I think that's a matter of personal preference.

Is it just me, or did Scott put in a line that perfectly describes himself?!

RE: Fiends (2011 to Present)

I saw the show for the first time tonight. I will say I really don't like the Justin Beiber reference because of two things. One, he really isn't that relevant anymore? He hasn't had really any new hit songs and has been out of the news for so long. Two, we have seen the park do references like this before and they tend to not be updated as times change so you end up with old irrelevant references in the end.
I did think the sexual innuendos just barely crossed the line of too much. I do get this feeling they were trying to make the show more adult than it already was, by adding much more sexual innuendos.
As far as the Nurse's costumes go, this is another reason why I think they were trying to make them more adult. They got rid of the bras with that shirt like thing attached to them (forgot the name of the actual garment) and they are now just bras with glitter swirls. Their panties also have rhinestones on them this year. I don't mind the changes, they aren't monumental and I don't think they add nor take away anything.
Overall, the show was still good and for a first weekend it did fine, but it can be better and I know it will be better. I honestly think that Dr. Freakenstien should be more male model like the monster because that is what makes the "Grab my parts" part, as well as other parts, flow together more seamlessly. I think he just had too much of a different look, like mentioned earlier, father figure comes to mind. But like I said it was fine but could be better.

Also I forgot to add, I do like the theme park references; however, the whole point of the show is to take you into a secret laboratory in a castle (in Ireland if you want to get specific), and when you constantly allude to theme park you ruin that immersion and you remind guests that they are in a theme park. One or two references would be fine but not a bunch.

It's called a bustier. (Or bustiere)

And that's generally what they look like. Just for future reference.

RE: Fiends (2011 to Present)

It's the perspective; bobby pins, brushing out nappy wigs and whatnot. Plus this last occasion is explaining a bustier with pics...for "future reference." One can hope. ;)

He called it "bras with that shirt like thing attached to them" And said he forgot the name. So I told him the name, and gave an image of what they actually look like. "For future reference" was so incase he didn't actually know what they looked like, or forgot the name there was a certain place for him (Or anybody else) to go back and reference it.

I only notice all this stuff because I frequently work with wigs, and I actually make costumes. (That's me in a wig and costume as my forum pic, that I made 100% by myself. The only thing I didn't make in that costume was the socks. But that's a topic for another time.)

It's kind of hard to make and work with this stuff without learning what specific pieces are called, and learning how wigs work.

I guarantee you, if I didn't work with wigs or knew anything about costumes. I wouldn't notice anything, outside the fact that maybe the wig was a bit messy. But I'd just chalk it up to the nurses dancing around and flipping their hair. And I'd notice that their bras are sparkly this time around, but weren't previously. :sleepy:

RE: Fiends (2011 to Present)

Compared to Friday, less product placement in the dialog. Improvement. Fewer tech issues. Improvement. However, Freakenstein was lip-syncing. In my humble opinion. Friday he was singing lowly with little animation in his mouth. A bit timid and hard to hear. We thought this odd for a touring vocalist from a major production.

Sunday, he was MUCH stronger and louder with overly exaggerated mouth movements. Not quite in time with the recorded track, which WAS his own voice. Those that can tell may know what I mean. Someone like to give this a watch and post their opinion?

Are you going to upload them all? I want to compare the show from Friday to the ones on Sunday.

Probably not. Though I got some usable footage, much of it is not. 'Fiends' is even harder to record properly than 'Celtic Fyre'. Since many of the performers wear white, they really wash out in the spotlights. There is also a lot of action that needs closeup shots happening in different places on the stage. In 'Celtic Fyre', wide full stage shots are effective, as the unison dancing is highlighted. I spent most of the 'Fiends' shows trying to get the lighting settings right for the shots I was getting.

For instance, turn down the brightness and record closeups of performers in the spotlights. Turn up the brightness and record closeups of performers out of the spots. In the one show where I sat in the center and did a full stage recording, I swallowed wrong and got a coughing fit, which probably ruined that recording for posting.

The last show was one where I was sitting close to the front right side, with the brightness set high, getting closeups of out-of-spot performers. It's more noticeable to others when you do this, as you are obviously not following the main action on the stage. And, of course, many of the out of spotlight performers are nurses. On the way out, I heard one of the people who was sitting a couple rows behind me laughing and saying, "I know what THAT guy wanted to see."

Well. Yes. But, I had a real, technical reason why I was shooting that way. Really. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

I know this is just my perspective, but I believe there is a fundamental difference between a bustier and a sparkly bra and panties set. I am having trouble explaining this, maybe because it is early on Monday?

Bustiers are sexy, but sort of socially acceptable and something that would be mildly titillating, but not completely shocking. Bras/panties are just underwear and exposing either is just trashy.

It is a bit like erotica vs porn, I guess? Maybe burlesque vs strip?
