RE: Festa Italia Renovation/Retheme?

Why does it need a new e-ticket? Isn't Apollo in Festa as it is?

While I absolutely disagree that Roman Rapids should be taken out, Apollo doesn't bring guests back to La Cucina (unless guests get lost). Guest go in and out of Festa quickly just to ride on go on their merry way and it is easy for them to do that considering the ride entrance is right next to the entrance of Festa.

However, I am all for a better themed Roman Rapids. Add more stuff and make it more roman :p

In general, I think Festa just needs a well executed theme. There is absolutely nothing there to tell you where you are at except for the few names (Apolo's Chariot, Pegasus's Gifts, Roman Rapids, and La Cucina) Other than those names there is absolute not a specific theme screaming at your face. I just want to see it better themed and that is my only thought. Re-theming it similar to how Hastings to Killarney was done would be fine only if they added more theme to make it scream out to you where you are at.

RE: Festa Italia Renovation/Retheme?

I just a realization... Festa is based on celebration of Marco Polo's travels, right? Then let's consider some of the rides: Tradewinds, for example, are the name for winds blowing around the equator in the tropics, which were used by merchants, such as Marco Polo, for trading. Furthermore, the design used for the ride is also referred to as Music Express or Himalaya, a mountain range in Asia. As for the teacups, it's known that tea originated in China, one of his destinations. The other rides, Apollo and Roman Rapids, are obviously references to his home country. I'm in favor of a re-theme, but perhaps the park put more thought into the rides than we had assumed.

I think the rides can easily be re-named for a better fitting theme if need be. Not too big of an issue.

yes and didn't Hannibal cross into Italy with elephants? Hence, the little elephant ride.

Thanks, forgot about that one. I guess they could also be associated with India but that's interesting too.

RE: Festa Italia Renovation/Retheme?

What's sad is that it took a group of enthusiasts (actually, only one even got it *cough*Natoma*cough*) & research to figure this out. Whereas you go into Ireland and you see a pot of gold, and BOOM, you know you're in Ireland, no matter who you are... :dodgy: You know, that's not really great for the general public who probably doesn't care about the theme of an area, anyway...

I feel like the simplist fix, especially in the short term, is to simply model the different parts of Italy after different Italian cities and name them as such. Maybe call EFPs side of the bridge Pompeii, Festa Italy Rome, and the Davinci area..., I guess maybe DaVinci or a town near there. Add a little bit of tasteful theming to each and list attractions on the map under the city they are in rather than just Italy. Then hang some Italian flags in each city to tie everything together and add signs directing you to each city. This keeps the BGW theme of different cultures coming together. Granted, this isn't an ideal solution, but it requires little more than a new paint job here and there and some signs. It will at least help clear up some of the current confusion and hopefully tone down the "in your face" style of Festa Italy. The GP doesn't seem to make the distinction between Italy and Festa Italy.

Each section of Italy does have its own name. Pompeii is Pompeii, DaVinci's Gardens of Invention, Festa Italia, and San Marco. Other hamlets have names too, Killarney, Banbury Cross, Heatherdowns, Aquitaine, Rhinefeld, but the GP uses the general country name because the park does not post the hamlet names for whatever reason.

It seems like decreasing the number of names, changing Festa Italy to something like Rome or any other name of an actual city, would really clear up confusion and make Italy seem more cohesive. Germany is really the only other hamlet that seems to be going two different directions, but the big "octoberfest" sign makes it make sense. Shouldn't be too hard to do that for Italy.
