RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012 to Present)

I never got a chance to see Entwined but it was great seeing a LIVE BAND in a park show again when I walked in on This Is Oktoberfest.

Ok, I need to go to bed but Entwined should be finished uploading by about 2:20am or so at which time the player below should work. I'd recommend waiting a bit for the quality to improve though. As normal, it'll go all the way up to 1080p soon. Should be completely finished by morning. Normally I'd say to enjoy it but this time it's probably more appropriate to end this way: I'm so, so sorry.

Also, sorry about the few rough spots in the video. Near the end I couldn't keep the laughter contained. I'll refilm with a better angle soon.

Stage looks good, Dancing Queen seems out of place in the show. You weren't kidding when you said they didn't keep anything from last year.

At about 23 minutes in, if you listen carefully, you can here various comments from a few BGWFans peeps slipping into madness.

I'm so confused. What did I just watch?! It's literally a mix of so many things that it just doesn't make sense. SMH

alright Pzp inadvertently linked it to me and I want to bash my face into a wall...

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012 to Present)

Well, I have not set foot in BGW in about 8 years now. The last time I was in the park was the season before Hastings was converted to Kilnarney (sp?).

As far as the show goes. It had a beautiful set; "interesting" costumes; and a nice, large talented cast (18-20 people?)

I see that Jeff (the show narrator) is back at the park. (He performed at KD in the summer/fall of 2011 ("All Access" & "The Night shift") and the summer of 2012 ("All Access"). He moved over to BGW during the late summer of 2012 and was in "Entwined" and switched over to one of the Halloween shows last fall (mad scientist).

"Entwined" overall was a little confusing for me as far as the storyline goes. I was thinking they were trying to make this appeal to too many people. It takes a lot of skill to try to pull off a dual story line, one adult oriented and one kid oriented, like "Who Shot Roger Rabbit" and the "Shrek" movies. I watched the first 10-15 minutes and then .... well... I started skipping ahead to the last couple of minutes of the show. The audience seemed very appreciative of the show in their response at the end. Did you get that vibe or were folks whispering/mumbling about it in a negative way?

For me, I would probably watch it one time; but, would not go out of my way to see it again (unless it was being performed while I went in to grab something to eat). It would be the same for "This is Octoberfest". But that is just me. I never went out of my way to watch anything in the Festhaus when I visited the park. I just preferred the other entertainment shows in the park.

It's interesting to hear the opinion of someone who hasn't been to the park in such a long time. Thanks for sharing.

Also, I had no idea that the male lead used to perform at Kings Dominion. I guess BGW went on a bit of a talent grab. :p

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012 to Present)

OK. Just watched. I thought it was good for the most part. It started falling apart for me around the material girl number. The acrobatic part wasn't too bad. The dancing queen part is the worst part. Should have been a song and dance about happily ever after or something. Disco balls? Why?

Overall not as bad as people here are saying. Much better than last season's versions. Taking the set into account I'd rate this show a 6.5/10.

I had this whole thing typed up about the show, and then the site went down as I posted it. gdi. So now you're getting the condensed version of what I said previously.

Ok all you members that are lurkers and never post need to come out of the wood work and give your opinion on this new Entwined. It is slanted towards the negative... I want some other people's opinions in here!
I have a feeling you're calling me out. lol

Personally, I really enjoyed the show. The costumes, the cheesy fairytales, the fourth wall breakage, the innuendo, everything. But, I have tendency to enjoy things that are so bad they're good. (Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, anyone?)

The story was a bit jarring in the beginning, going from muted colors, to these bright, over saturated colors. And it wasn't really clear until Rapunzel, Goldilocks, and Red Riding Hood, showed up as to why she was going to the ball. Because it originally sounded like she just wanted to get out of Dullsburg (Hence the muted colors). But, then it switched to "I want to meet and become on of the 'Cool People'."

The costumes, I felt worked a million times better than what they had last year. I especially loved the Wolf. It reminded me of Broadway Lion King, just more cartoon-y.

My only real complaints are, one, it's not a show to be watching while you're eating. You need to pay attention to it in order to follow along. And two, Don't go from Festhaus Restaurant bright to near Abbey Stone dark. It was too dark inside for somebody who just wants to find a seat and eat. So they need to either not darken the lights so much(Like This is Oktoberfest), or add lights to the walkways (like movie theaters).

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012 to Present)

Just to be clear... you MUST witness this thing in person to truly get a feel for it.

OK, I went back to the park today for a few hours to do some things with my daughter on St. Patrick's Day that we missed yesterday. I had promised myself that I wouldn't see any repeats of the shows. But we happened upon the Festhaus and my baby talked me into it. Yes, for the second time in two days, I watched (in person) the disasterpiece in all of its glory. This time I took notes. After processing my thoughts on it after I got home, I came up with a list of interesting things:

- It should've been a hint of things to come when that guy came out at the beginning swinging an axe around like he was Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. What happened to him anyway? He disappears...
- One of the dancing girls has a skirt that is MUCH shorter than the other girls. It wasn't because she was tall, and she wasn't a special character. Why?
- Those yellow pants are REALLY tight. Wrinkles everywhere!
- The stage always seems too empty with only two actors on opposites sides, or it is way too busy at times.
- "Gretyl's Secret" shopping bag? Victoria wasn't sexy enough?
- Watch the movie "Heathers" and then watch Entwined again. I dare you.
- Why are some gnomes shaking their booties at the crowd?
- During "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" the word "PU$$YCAT" causes shocked looks on the faces of children in the crowd.
- There is a lot of suggestive things; some of a phallic nature:
"Pet my goose."
"I like your hair" (as wood grows).
The Mr. Tumnus-like goat-boy says "I'm Raaaaaaaannndy!" Look it up if you don't know.
- There is a drinking game throughout the show... "Happily Ever After" (now raise your glass).
- Though much better than a mascot, the new psycho Wolf looks like a New York City rat mated with a lion-fish. Might make a cool tattoo.
- Dr. Freakenstein is Prince Charming.
- Dancing Queen..."you're only seventeen." Isn't the implication here illegal? Especially since Freakenstein is involved.
- During the big Dancing Queen finale number, the lights are too bright in your face when looking at all of the people flying around the stage, yet somehow not good enough to illuminate the little disco balls well enough to get a proper disco effect going. And even if the lights were positioned properly, the disco ball lights would be limited to just inside the stage area because of the drapery. By design? I dunno.
- Mr. Tumnus is wearing a letterman jacket at the end. Why?
- The stilt-walking giant was absent today. Did the psycho wolf eat him?

Whew! What a list! All I could think is that a full blown circus act would be a better fit if this third incarnation of Entwined is what the entertainment department wants. I am amazed that people were clapping when it was over. Wasn't sure if it was because they loved it that much or that they were grateful that their misery was over. In any event, to all of the people who have complained since last year that Entwined ruined the Festhaus and was geared specifically for the kiddies, your prayers have been answered! You now have a much more adult-oriented show DISGUISED as a kiddie show. Hot pants...sexual innuendos...drinking games!!! You asked for it. You got it. Hope you like it. I do not.

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012 to Present)

I'm going to go out on a limb here and hope people don't think I'm completely mental...

I think version 3 is substantially worse than versions 1 or 2 were. This year's version is clearly the better produced show; however, the content clashes even more with Das Festhaus than the last version did. Atmosphere is worth 10x more to me than the production value of a silly kids show.

RE: Entwined: Tales of Good and Grimm (2012 to Present)

I agree with you. Honestly, I didn't mind version 1 or 2. Yes they sucked but were doable. This is just an awful show. None of the songs has even a bit of relevance to the festhaus nor do most of the characters. ( Ex. psycho wolf, stilt man, yellow pants, etc..) How do German food, fairytles and dancing queen go together? Hmmm
