Finally got to see/look through the Union Jax shop today.
It was 96 degrees, so what do we do? We walk through AC buildings aimlessly. I'm happy I strolled through it.
First of all, the layout and structure of the store is spot on. I know it's a "Ye Olde World" park, but I love the vibrancy of it. The feeds of London are hypnotizing. I stood in front of each of the screens for a good five minutes each. When you look to the ceiling you also see the rafter motif carried over from the Emporium, which is a wonderful pop of color.
Second - the merchandise itself. Now let me level with you. I am not, nor have I ever been, some diehard Park fanboy. I was never a coaster fanatic or connoisseur of food and wine festivals. I've always been drawn to the park because of my field of study (site planning), so I really don't own a bunch of merchandise outside of a Griffon inaugural season shirt and a snowglobe or two.
I could have bought the store.
Seriously, the merchandise in there is just awesome, not to mention the fact that it's VARIED. They couldn't have more than 8 shirts on a rack before a completely new article of clothing or decor was introduced. It's fantastic. And this never should to stop. I wish we could get back to the country-specific merchandise (outside of Capidimonte and Waterford). Make shopping a hunt.
I want an Ireland shirt Mommy!!
Ok well we're going to have to travel to Ireland then!
^This is what Retail's mentality should be. (I think this is their actual mentality, but you really begin to discover this with Union Jax). I'm perfectly fine with the Empo. having an array of merchandise from the countries, but don't have it all.
Oh and finally, the Empo. also looks very well done. The displays above the shelves are really well thought out, with each country having its own display, with accompanying "antiques" complementing the specific country's culture. Really great touch there. And finally, look at the wall opposite the fireplace. The "castle gate" opens out onto an image of a real English village. Love this.
