Either cost reduction by the park or there's a reported turkey supply issue - though the reasons for that seem to be between a reduction in demand during the pandemic lead to a drop in breeding, a new bird flu going around, and/or general supply chain issues affecting everything.

However, interesting to note, chickens also saw a drop in availability though to a much lesser degree.

Ah, my favorite Christmas dinner tradition: chicken.

Why does the park do this?
There’s Turkey supply issues and the cost is super high. The GM of Mission BBQ and I have talked about it. Their Turkey dish at my location went from $7.99 to $10.99 and gone from 10 oz to 7 oz.

Great. So ham then. Literally anything feels more Christmas than chicken.
Hate to say it, but Buffet Ham & Turkey Roasts on a national scale for foodservice are going to be on an ‘as available’ basis through holidays. I work in food supply chain for Healthcare facilities and folks in our nursing homes will be having chicken for Thanksgiving, also in some areas.
Butterball & Jenni-O both had production interruptions since the beginning of summer and they pack for the major distributors (Sysco, USFoods).
FYI - Distributors prioritize retail sectors before foodservice and then healthcare & schools get priority over restaurants and entertainment.

Deli Ham could be a viable option + check back after Thanksgiving and there may be more traditional options.

Nothing about that meal sounds "Christmas Dinner", is a crock pot dinner in February.

At least have some other festive element. Stuffing, cranberry, SOMETHING even if you can't get the turkey. Basically just giving us a chicken shepherd's pie.

I will concure with what many have said about the ham and turkey situation. But unlike others I don't give the park a pasd based on the situation. They are and have been available if BGW and perhaps even SEAS have not gotten a supply to offer its either pour planning or more likely deciding that they don't want to go that route because they don't believe they can hit their markup point with the cost. The point I have made other places is you can't tell me WAWA is capable if securing a source of roast turkey but there were no options for BGW.

Kind of relevant, but Kings Dominion will have Turkey, Ham, Chicken, and other traditional meals for Winterfest… doesn’t give BGW much of an excuse. If they planned ahead enough they wouldn’t be serving a f****** chicken Christmas dinner meal lmao

The culinary operations at BGW have been shameful this year. They were a joke during the F&WF. They had very few places to eat outside the food booths. It seemed to improve during the summer but went straight down hill at Howl o scream. We ate at Trappers once and they had two choices - the rib platter or the sampler platter (ribs, brisket, and chicken). We will be going to Christmastown once or twice this year, but we will be eating outside the park for dinner. Maurizio’s will be getting our business.

While I agree that BGW culinary was generally atrocious this year, we had a good experience with Food & Wine.

Has the food really gone that downhill???
My meal at Festhaus in 2017 was phenomenal.
(I had the sausage platter, even the red cabbage was delicious) my meals at the smokehouse in 2017 and 2018 were really good. 🤷‍♂️

It's hard to believe that turkeys are that hard to get when my grocery store is selling them at 29 cents a pound (loss leader, of course, but available).

Also, Virginia is the sixth leading turkey producer in the country, with NC next door being first.

This is my personal take on all of it right now:
I’m understanding of any and all supply chain issues. I wish places like BGW would at least try.

However - I would also understand if there’s a feeling of the complaints of not doing it period is worth the complaints of being out of it.

All in all my issue with BGW is the ’not doing it period’ is the blanket stand whenever something might be a challenge. Especially when they are continuing the buybacks and record profits. Das Festhaus is also the worst place to take this attitude at. It’s a place that should have a few extra options and should have the ‘more expensive’ plates.
