Yes, you are correct. I'm glad someone else noticed it. I mentioned that and some other things in the updated description. Here is the video description. Also, I can go into more detail easily.

This happened during a shutdown caused by lightning in the area. The ride got off to a very good start, then at the very end of the first scene, I noticed that the ride was going out of sync. I figured something was not right, so I took out my iPhone to film it. Right as I did, the ride started to continue its regular cycle, except it was in a locked position and skipped over certain scenes entirely. Notice that as it goes through the fireplace, the music begins to start up for the next scene, but it is not the current music, instead it is the music from the former ballroom scene. It then cuts off. I am amazed that the ride even tries to keep up with the sound gates in these situations.

That's an issue with the sleigh itself, not the whole ride. If DarKastle shuts down for lightning, it would have been before it was ever near enough to cause any real issues.

The operator at the exit off the ride said that they were shutting down. If it was the lightning, they were obviously in no big hurry.

The only reason they even bother shutting down for lightning is to avoid having riders during a power outage. Evacuating people in complete darkness isn't really easy.

Havent been to BGW in a couple years, how awful is this ride now. Is the ride film completely doubling? Also how are the ride effects this year?

Now that my cheesy jokes are done lol.. Ive ridden this a few times and always have had a good ride.(I wouldnt have known what was bad about it until i read here and know what to look for) But then i think this coming trip i will be looking closer to see. :)

The maintenance on the ride has been very good this year. Earlier this year they had a few minor glitches. Most of them have been fixed. Extra lighting cues have been added and fixed, such as the chandelier in the library. If the park keeps up with it, the ride will be as good as new very soon.
Edit: The only real issues now are mechanical pieces, such as the quick rise curtain. They also re-configurated the queue line in the preshow room once again.

They also no longer let quick queue go cross the line to the opposite door to avoid the preshow. You used to be able to come out right at the split where you are directed to the line for your car. Now you have to wait in a much longer line and then you get to stand with the additional queue that used to be outside that is now been moved into the preshow area.

So wait... Is the door open all the time for the preshow again? Or are they still putting people in the preshow in groups before letting them into the station?

The preshow room is open full-time now. Another observation and I have made this year: the wind effects have vastly improved this year. It is amazing how much high-powered fans can add to the experience. For instance; when you are in the first scene, it is snowing, so the fans blow at an angle from above. This gives the illusion of being outside in the middle of a blizzard. It also adds a lot to the effect of the sleigh rising in the dining room scene. If they had these effects in use when the ride opened, many of them have stopped working until now. Like I said, it seems to be a good work in progress.

Quick question. In the tornado/twister/vortex portion of the ride, does anyone else feel the ride movement is the reverse of what it should be? I always feel like I am being "fake spun" in the opposite direction. Maybe just me though.

Yes, the ride has several cases where the sleigh motion goes in the opposite direction of the video footage. In the piano room, the video footage shows the vortex spinning clockwise. However, the sleigh movement has you pivot-spinning counterclockwise. I guess they might have decided to do that either because they were not paying enough attention to detail. Another possibility is that they might have wanted to save on maintenance, because you make a right turn directly after that scene.

For those of you who have not seen it yet, you can see way more than you usually do in the ride in this video. It is a video of the ride during/before a shutdown.

from what I understand each sleigh is slightly different. I think over the years their programming has gotten off.

This may be me grasping at straws, but I have a feeling that this happened because Scott is gone now. I know the preshow returned to small groups when ENT took over ride themeing and I imagine that Scott wanted the preshow restored to an actual show for the "experience." Ride Ops wants efficiency be damned with the experience. With Scott gone now Ride Ops was able to go back to the more efficient always open way of doing it.

Just my speculation, no rumors or facts to back it up; my guess.

The preshow room was rarely operational last year, and towards the end of the season, it was never operational. I don't think it had to do with Scott more than it had to do with budget cuts, and the park not wanting to pay for extra staffing in the preshow room.
