So much hilarious stuff went down, like people are never behaving when I’m there. There was a guy getting on Tempesto with some Gucci sunglasses on and the employee was super nice “sir, you’ll need to take the glasses off before you ride” and he had a MELTDOWN,

“these are 500 dollar sunglasses I’m not leaving those anywhere!” And the employee was being cool “sir, on this ride there’s a strong chance they’ll fall off, you can set them in this cubby” and he started freaking out and cussing at the employee “YOUVE NEVER EVEN HELD GLASSES THAT COST THIS MUCH! If anything happens to them YOURE responsible!” I was honestly hoping they would have booted him off the ride. He turned to my friends and I and tried to get our “support” like for us to back him up, he turned to us and said “they really think I’m just gonna leave my Gucci shades sitting there...” and my friend who was pretty faded just makes this evil demented lizard face at him and hisses like a cat and the guy looked shocked and said “... du f***???” Hahahahahahaha. Once he was off the ride and walking in front of us he was looking over his shoulder at us like he was disturbed by my friend making the evil face at him

So I ended up going yesterday and the crowds weren’t bad, walked on to almost every coaster!

Something strange did happen though. So, on Apollo’s and Griffin there was an employee at the station directing people to ensure social distancing on the ride amongst different parties. However, on Alpengeist a weird social situation went down. I was in line with two of my other friends, so we were a party of 3. A man and his wife in line behind us taps on my shoulder and asks “is it just the 3 of you? Is it okay if I go ahead of you since it’s just two of them in front of you?” And he points to a different couple in front of me. I say “I’m not sure if they’re trying to socially distance... you can ask them if they’re okay with it, that’s sort of up to them” and the guy looked completely bewildered and got snippy with me “Really....? The seats are just going to get wasted!” I said “... dude, I’m cool with you going ahead I’m just said with covid you need to ask them if they’re okay with it”, and the two people in front of me said “... uh... we don’t care?” And acted weird about it.

so IMMEDIATELY after this, a single rider sees it’s just 3 of us in my group and without asking us, jumps in front of some people to get on with us directly next to us. I talked to the guy on the ride, he was cool I just let him know “hey man, we don’t really care because we’re vaccinated but it’s kinda a bad social queue just to get on directly next to people” and he got super offended.

I mostly was confused about the two couples though, like I thought the people in front of me would have appreciated me making sure they asked them before letting them in front of me but everyone treated me like I was overreacting... weird
I think that will be par for the course for a while. I like social distancing because I always hated someone standing right on my heels or hopping into a ride with me. I'm fully vaccinated and I've never been a believer in cloth masks ,but always wore one when out, (not going to debate it, I'll wear an n95 when I am concerned) so I walked into a busy Costco a couple of days ago in NoVa without one. I was 1 of a handful of individuals not wearing a mask. I felt weird, no one said anything to me, but there was definitely eyes on me. Personally I wish people just had a little more courtesy to keep a few feet apart in queues and unless the park is extremely busy, an extra seat or 2 in a row isn't the end of the world. I don't think many are ready for things to go back to normal.

@stoney - it seems giving the stinkeye to Gucci man may have been the best course of action, sounds like that guy was looking for a fight.

I think the Andy Mulvihill memoir of Action Park summed it up best - people generally believe when they enter an amusement/theme park that nothing could hurt them, everything they do within the park gates is inconsequential, and rules are just guidelines to ignore.

Of course in that scenario it was referring to the hazardous rides they built that expected riders to take control and recognize their own limits, not reactions from the public that may or may not believe the pandemic is a political issue.

I went last Sunday and was pretty surprised how many people physically bumped into me in lines for a few rides. It was really discouraging and as someone who is already freaking out as a single rider/solo park-go’er the last thing my weak social state can handle is telling someone to back up a little. Also, I think it’s pretty funny someone would bring valuables into a theme park. The price of a broken cell phone on the ground in a ride restricted area is the same price as the phone that falls into the Rhine river no matter how you split it.

Sounds like some people are just coming back to the parks. At one time filling the ride was what you were supposed to do.

Are all the kiddy rides open now? See that on the website that land of the Dragons is only open Thursday thru Sunday. Think this will be open for tomorrow for Memorial Day holiday??

I expect tomorrow to be treated as a weekend, staffing permitting.

Couple things to note off that. Why is Bad German spelling tower closed, and I hate that Pantheon is all the way at the bottom AND it’s green so it looks like it’s open

Because they prioritize rides by traffic.

Let's try to keep the conversation on topic. There is a thread for Mach Tower, if you wish to chat about it.
