Yes, I believe mask compliance is regional. In the OBX which has a good cross refrence of people from VA, Maryland, Pa, NY and NJ most of the cars you see pulling into the beach accesses, shops, stores and fishing centers with Va or NC plates are not wearing masks where as the Maryland, Pennsylvanis, New Youk and Jersey plates the people have masks on before even getting out of their cars. Its all about what is habbit. Its really a shame that people didnt and still dont take the same stance on smoking and vaping, something that affects others yet to this day people vape right next to others and people stand and dont bat a eye. Then you have someone sitting in a chair away from everyone else not wearing a mask but thats the person that everyone considers inconsiderate. Use BGW as a example, I see people all the time vaping and smoking and team members as well as security rarely says anything but now they are empowered to seek out people with masks imporperly worn or not worn at all.

So you don’t believe masks work and try to discredit them by pointing out that people don’t wear them properly? You’ve had problems with masks day one.

That’s like saying a fishing rod doesn’t work because you didn’t put a hook on.

I didnt say they dont work in my last post, just saying I wish people were as strict on smoking and vaping. The effectiveness of masks depends on the mask and how its worn. Neck Gaiters do very little, some homeade masks push what a mask is and are not effective. Then go to the far end and look at people wearing n95 rated masks with a valve....that completely defeats the purpose for covid. That person is protecting themselves but not others yet people act like they are heros for wearing that type of mask. I understand the masks, I get fit tested annually for respirators and n95 masks as well as supplied air respirators.

Not to jump onto the claim about mask usage doesn't have much of an effect, though it's a proven tool in the box that also includes staying away from people and keeping clean, but I'm in the OBX right now and have yet to see any large amount of maskless people in groups.

Yeah, sure, on the beach or walking next to the road no masks, but in every shop or even in line for food from Kitty Hawk to Ocracoke I haven't seen less than maybe 80% which includes the pinocchios and half-offs in the remaining 20%.

But then again, maybe that's my narrow view and it definitely is anecdotal so could either of us be right?

This post begs to differ.

Masks are like the comfort collars on Tempesto. Are they nessassary...no, but you have to wear them to ride.

You’ve always been against masks and spread conspiracies on here. If it were something light hearted like a dumb rumor about a park Inwouldnt worry about it, but in this case mask usage is required to get back to normal anytime soon. I’m fucking sick of this messaging because it’s untrue and purposely confusing.

They said two weeks, and now it’s been 6 months and we are no closer and in fact now they just say this is the new normal.

I don't know about you, but when I go out or to the store, mask usage, let alone social distancing, is often not happening, or masks are being worn incorrectly. We see people at the store with their noses showing all the time, sometimes mouth too, even a security guard last night at the grocery store had his mask under his chin. The president of France - there's a video showing him talking to the press or some group, he is talking, takes off his mask, coughs, puts the mask back on. The president of France, let alone Joe and Jenny Shmo.

The only thing I recall seeing anything close to two weeks is if everyone wore masks properly. Given the strong opposition and people not wearing them properly, of course it’s not going to go away. That’s like saying seatbelts don’t work if you’re not wearing one.

This is why people shouldn’t respect what you say. You lie about what you say and hope people don’t call you out on it.

You calling me a liar? When this started they said two weeks of staying home and if you had to go out only for essential items such as food to wear a mask. I feel like most people followed that. I went to the store only like twice in those two weeks only when it was something I really needed. We did nothing for those two weeks but sit at home and watch the tv. At the end of those two weeks they said one more week, then another....now there is no end in sight. That’s a fact jack....so if you are calling me a liar for that you sir are sorely mistaken.

You don't recall correctly. At the time of the first shutdowns, the CDC hadn't recommended masks yet. Yes, those awesome scientists. And the shutdowns were 2 weeks for many schools and localities. Of course, since it is a state to state issue, not everyone was the same, but by in large it was supposed to be two weeks, then we could "flatten the curve." Somehow this has morphed into 6 months and attempting to eradicate vs flatten the curve, to a horrible effect on millions of people.

What you might be thinking of was much later, well into summer: the Shame on You declaration from some pointy-heads that claimed we could eradicate the disease if everyone wore masks right for 2 weeks.

Personal attacks like calling someone "a liar" are violations of our published rules.
I’m calling you a liar. You posted that you didn’t say that masks didn’t work and I proved that you did. You have always been anti-mask and you have always downplayed the danger of COVID. I don’t recall anyone with a scientific background saying “two weeks” aside from some scenarios, but if you can prove me wrong, I will admit.

Do you know who I do recall saying something about it not lasting a long time?

Yeah, still don’t remember anyone seriously saying two weeks if people did what they should. I’d like to be corrected though. Regardless, people didn’t do what they were supposed to do so no serious timeline would have been met. Almost as if not taking the threat seriously had consequences.

Selective memory at it’s finest.

I’d be happy to look at proof. However, per your logic, I don’t see any proof, so it doesn’t exist.

Trump saying it would be gone by April is well documented, however.
Yea, I just made up the whole “flatten the curve” thing to push my agenda of giving hospitals the time they needed to be better prepared and for them to find the 40,000 ventilators for NYC they didn’t end up needing or the time to float the Comfort ship to NYC that they basically didn’t use.

Congratulations on being in the minority/ plurality of people that actually took the stay at home orders seriously. Unfortunately even if you put out 50-70% of embers, you can still have them spread into a full blown forest fire. So dont act indignant and that youre better than anyone else because you followed the medical guidlines at first but now you shouldnt have to because not everyone is.

My guess is you're misremembering this quote from an article in the NY Times from March;

" If it were possible to wave a magic wand and make all Americans freeze in place for 14 days while sitting six feet apart, epidemiologists say, the whole epidemic would sputter to a halt."

The “flatten the curve” thing was to give hospitals the ability to prepare because it had previously been established by that point that the system could be overwhelmed by Italy. Cases went down before restrictions ended and went back up after because people SOMEHOW got the idea that masks were pointless and the whole thing was a conspiracy and no worse than the flu. All have been talking points you have tried to push since the beginning.

From the beginning any timeline on recovery before a vaccine was expressed with that caveat that it would require people doing what they needed to. They didn’t and since actions have consequences, we’re still dealing with this shit.

@WDWRLD & @10fttall: Stay at home orders (which much of the country was never actually put under) =/= mask usage. You're intentionally conflating two separate things.

Getting people to stay home failed because people didn't do it. We gave up on that. Now we're trying to mitigate as much spread as possible with masks and distancing and there are folks who want to throw that out the window too.
