Im curious to see how passmembers are compensated for this going forward. If the closures extend to 30 days or more will the parks continue to change memberships? Will prepaid memberships get extra time added? Will be interesting to see

You paid for a 12 month membership and aren’t using it in January and February... If that isn’t a problem, I’m pretty sure everybody will understand the park closing for a pretty damn serious global health issue.

On a more serious note you purchase a membership with the understanding of having access to a park for a preset amount of time.

If my cable goes out for a day I normally wouldnt call for a refund. If it goes out for several days in one month, ill be raising hell to get my money back.

Granted most folks dont go to the parks every day or even every week, so it takes more to make an impact. That said, it seems unethical to me to charge a monthly membership for a month in which services arent rendered, especially when the service is advertised as a per month contract with a minimum term.

I want to be clear that in the big scheme of things this is kinda small potatoes but with the strain this will have on the economy every dollar counts.

Disney has already stated that all annual passes will get extra days added for the closed period. They dont do the monthly contract deal and only offer 365 day passes that can be paid up front or amortized over the year.

I onow six flags already has the capacity to add this to thier memberships because i already have something like this on my current membership. Its kinda useless but i have a month or a few that were “extra for free” that only get used after you cancel. I wouldnt be surprised to see that before a suspension of charging memberships. Not sure how that works for seasonal parks though.

In other news: Disney, in their press release stared that they will be paying workers. I am curious if this is just salary workers, or hourly as well. If it is the hourly workers, i wonder what basis they will use for pay going forward. For now there is certainly a work schedule to go off of so i suppose they are likely to go off that if hourly worlers are indeed being paid.

P.s. For those who dont know, WDW also frequently has extra workers on the clock to standby just in case crowd fluctuations require more staff. Only tangentially related but worth noted that WDW has a history of focusing on the park and guest perception thereof over pinching pennies on staff wages.
 
I will be stunned if BGW doesn't announce this morning they are suspending park opening for awhile. At this point it seems irresponsible otherwise.

Even though I feel like a hypocrite saying that. I've convinced myself going if it's open isnt worth the risk. But if it is I may not be able to not show up.

I'd be interested in someone taking weather closures for KD/BGW on average the last 3 years and seeing how many days it totaled.

I saw on a Hersheypark group, they did the math from a few years ago when The Hallow flooded. That caused a 10 day closure. When they added in all the other weather forced closures from that year, you got a total of 22 days closed that year. Nothing was done to reimburse the members for lost days on the calendar. They did offer some bigger discounts here and there, or added meals, or offered other perks not normally on there (QuickQueues weren't a thing back then).

Yes it would be nice if they extend for a given time your membership or if they didn't charge you for a month, but parks are under no obligation to do so. Think about it: I pay monthly. Its easy for the park to say "hey, we just won't charge your card for the month of April." But what about someone that paid in full? Do you refund them? Give them something of value of a month payment? Extend their expiration?

Like If I by my pass in January (that's when I get mine), it expires the next January. Adding a month to my membership does jack shit for me. And yes must be nice for people that live in a southern climate that don't worry about shit like an operating season, but you can't blanket say that's what's going to happen and screw over your members that live somewhere that doesn't have a 12 month operating season. The parks need to figure out something that's implemented across the board.

So here's my proposal for parks based on BGW's pricing:
$24 a month. So offer 1 free QQ, 1 free meal (regardless of meal pass or not), a free souvenir cup, and add a mid-summer member only day.

Legally speaking this isnt nessarily correct. I believe the most like solution, should the parks close for anything close to or surpassing 30 days, extra time added to the passes that are prepaid, and the aforementioned extra time after the cancellation of a pass.

Ill look into the actual retail installment contract to see if theres any hard information
