Oh god this thread makes me sad. So many good memories at this ride. At least I can still walk through the EITA queue line and act like I'm walking up to corkscrew hill.

I still appreciate EITA because of the footage. It's breathtaking. Now if they brought back Corkscrew Hill they would need to update the ride vehicle. I would much rather have a nice new shiny ride vehicle then a new updated film.

How dare you appreciate EITA?! It's on the gravesite of Corkscrew Hill! If you're going to take out a great attraction, at least replace it with something worth watching.

I would appreciate the footage from "Europe In The Air" on its own merits if it weren't CG. Honestly, stock CG aerial footage?!

^ Just look closely at the video. You'll see that there is an enormous amount of CG rendering and processing, from landscape to people on the streets in Paris.

(sorry, this convo should probably be over in the EITA thread)

Aside from the transitions, everything was filmed especially for EitA.

Now back to CSH.
I was clearly kidding about that whole boo mods thing

Anyways, I can recall my dad screaming "He took someone!" almost every time we rode corkscrew hill and the guy picked someone off of the ride.
Random memories

I never really thougt of Corkscrew Hill as great. It was always a bit cheesey to me. I did enjoy Questor quiet a bit when it first opened. I also think that every sim since has suffered from the Questor Theming. So much of the theaters and the walking spaces were built to suit Questor.

The company that made the film would not actually have to start from scratch to re-render the film in HD. The textures on everything will still look mainly the same, but that will eliminate the problem with the black bars on the sides. If you need something for reference, search for Konami's HD re-release of Silent Hill 2 and 3. The only difference is that it can be played on a bigger screen without losing overall quality. The same old textures are still there however. Since the film was way ahead of its time, I would say that the film would look five years old today. Most of the tricks that you see in the film were not used until 2007 at the earliest. For example, rendering the entire film in one take on one map was and still is pretty impressive. Just to entertain another idea, if Corkscrew Hill does not return, Europe In The Air should not return. It simply does not generate enough guests per hour to constitute running something that takes so much energy and maintenance.
Bringing this to the Corkscrew Hill thread since it's more about Corkscrew Hill, than EitA.

Let me preface this with this: I am not a professional animator, in fact I only just graduated from college last June. However, that being said my degree is in animation, so please believe me when I say, it's not as easy as you think it is.

The first issue here is this, you would have to find the original company who made the film, and then hope that 1, they're even still around today. And 2, that they have the original files kept saved somewhere. Googling Corkscrew Hill gave me a a link to the IMDB page. And it looks like the company hasn't done anything since 2002.

So that right there means they would have to start over from scratch. Because the only thing park has, is the final video, concept art, and maybe some playblast tests of what it should look like. They do not have the original files, I can basically guarantee that. (Unless the original production company was stupid, in which case the park might have those files.)

But, let's play hypothetical situations, where the company did manage to survive til today, and still has at the very least a backup file of the original. The textures then were made for that time. As somebody who has textured things (Though however poor it may have been.), you need highest quality textures you can get for your images. Whether you're making them from scratch, or taking a picture of a rock. Especially, if they are going to be viewed up close. I know for the most part you're riding on the back of the Púca, but with today's render technology, and today's fur and hair technology, we can make that horse's neck look better. We can also make the people look more like people instead of plastic dolls that move (sort of) like people. We can fix the lighting to make it look more eerie while still maintaining that it's not too scary for young kids. Etc. This isn't even getting into rerigging the models. (Which would have to be done.)

Unfortunately, Silent Hill 2 & 3 HD releases are not shining examples of what an HD release could look like. There are an abundant amount of problems with both of those game's HD releases. And even if we manage to ignore those issues, there were still a large of amount of textures changed for both games.

And while yes, having it all on one map incredibly impressive, and is still rarely done. The rest of the film really wasn't that much of a game changer. And would not bode well with HD screens or projectors.

/hops off soap box.

The company is still around. It's just under a different name. It's now most commonly called Synthespian Studios. However, the company did have some issues at some point. According to some plans the company had a while ago, we were supposed to have a full length featured movie based off of the ride. That also changed because Busch Gardens decided to scrap the ride two years before the movie was meant to debut.

You definitely have a point there. It is certainly nothing that should set their standards, but they have no money now. Konami basically just slapped a new label on the same games. They didn't even re-do the textures like they should have. Supposedly, they just decompressed the originals. Aside from the voices in SH3, it was nothing fancier than playing it on an emulator in "HD". Similarly to Europe in the Air, "HD" would have to be in big quotation marks if they are able to pull this off. At most, they may be able to re-size it for the current screen.

Just a fun fact: All of the data for the film and audio was stored on four hard drives. It totaled to 16 gigabytes of data for the entire experience, including the pre-show. In comparison, the final scene alone in DarKastle is 6 to 8 gigabytes.

I while ago I emailed the composer of Corkscrew Hill, Kubilay Uner, and asked if could post anything from Corkscrew Hill on SoundCloud. Sure enough, he did! What's more, he gave me permission to post it here.
Here you go! Enjoy the Memories!
