I think a flyer would work even better in Anaconda's place, assuming Lake Charles gets cleaned up a bit with some circulating water and maybe some chlorine. I have no idea when Anaconda will close—maybe it won't for another 15-20 years—but when it happens, I hope Lake Charles is kept, because it would make a beautiful setting for a flyer.

I could be wrong, but it seems that most themes for coasters(and areas) are one of three things:

1.Fictional(Big Bad Wolf, Kraken, Batman)

2.Exclusively non-negative (Rock'n'Rollercoaster, general time periods)

3.Far removed from modern culture.

In other words, parks seek to theme rides to something that has the least possible chance of being negatively perceived. WWII is closely tied with things such as the holocaust and the very high death counts on the eastern front. Add to that the fact that there are still people alive who are closely connected with the conflict and I really don't think that there is much of a chance of a park theming things to that event. The only thing that I can even think of related to WWI is the little plane kiddie rides.

I could be over thinking this, but on the other hand, it is a very well known part of our culture that isn't represented in a theme park at all. One way that I could see something like this happening is if Disney were to make a Captain America themed area. That makes it just fictional enough to work I'd say. Chances of that though are very low, esp. given the complicated marvel licensing in which Universal owns most of the Avengers rights in theme parks.

The other thing I was thinking of is that while I was working in public affairs, I became very aware of how other nations view the war. Most are absolutely fine with hearing about it. There is one notable exception: Japan. While there is a range of ways that they react to mention of WWII, a good number of them prefer not to see or hear anything about it, especially the older folks. While KD is not a very "international" park, it isn't infeasible that such a thing would be considered.

As such, I don't see a WWII theme being carried out. It could be very cool, but overall, it doesn't seem very theme-park like.

All the better chance to educate the public on the single most important global event in history.  (as taken as a whole)

I will point out that Scott G really like WWII theming even when the event took place on a holiday that had exactly 0 to do with the military or military history!

On that point I highly doubt most people even know who the Red Baron is let alone what he became famous for in the first place and if people know anything its because he flew a Red colored Biplane during WWI and was called the Red Baron, that's it.

Wait wasn't he the guy that Snoopy faught with on Christmas? Are you trying to say that this new coaster would fit in well in Planet Snoopy?

"The news had come out, in the First World War, that the bloody Red Baron was flying once more. The Allied Command ignored all of its men, and called on Snoopy to do it again ... "

yep that's the Red Baron, Manfred von Richtofen, pretty amazing pilot, managing a rough landing after being fatally wounded after long service. How did we get off on the Red Baron again?

MAZ, my ticky tacky is worse than yours!

Actually he flew a Fokker Tri-plane till the end of his days in WWI. Not a bi-plane. I appologize for my ticky tacky.

He first flew Biplanes most notable being the Albatross D3 and Albatross D5 and was in these aircraft he scored most of his victories and it was while flying the Albatross D3 that he first came up with the idea to paint his aircraft red.

I Want to a Possible Mack Rides Launch Coaster concept post but im having a hard time with the theme. As far as the layout goes it would be similar to Helix but would be 200 feet longer, and would feature more airtime moments and an extra inversion. The US Does not have anything like Helix or My Concept, but i would like to to be a terrain coaster and use Old Virginia's beauty to its advantage Its crazy but I could see it going where dinos alive is now as that is becoming extinct. I also think a GCI Is possible for that land.

I would love to see something by Mack come to va. Correct me if I’m wrong but if kings dominion were to get one more launch coaster they would be “the launch coaster capital of the world”. That would be a pretty cool title to give kings dominion. But what kings dominion is really lacking is an invert coaster, that’s the only other thing they could use. Volcano is just too short.

Terrain coaster in KD?

Yeah, that's never gonna happen. The entire park is flat.

a terrain coaster doesnt have to use hills or mountains to its advantage take Mystic Timbers for example its a terrain coaster yet is on mostly flat land, where Dinos is now is in woods similar to Mystic Timbers

Those aren't wooden coasters. Ghoster Coaster doesn't meet the height minimum for a wooden coaster. Grizzly lost its wooden certification once they built dinosaurs around it, which made it a wooden/animatronic hybrid. I also don't have to explain why Rebel Yell isn't a wooden coaster.

I don't think your definition of a terrain coaster matches the industry's definition of a terrain coaster. A terrain coaster specifically uses the land's topography to the design's advantage. King's Dominion was built on an old farm that was flat for the purpose of crop production. The park is not capable of building a terrain coaster unless they excavated and created their own terrain. If we went with your definition, the park already has a terrain coaster; Grizzly that was built in the woods.

I myself have not seen Mystic Timbers referenced as a terrain coaster (please feel free to reference where if I am wrong). But it does have some mild terrain to work with and including the multiple water crossings. That being said, designing a ride to weave through the woods doesn't necessarily make it a terrain coaster. What it does make it is a custom designed coaster with a sweeping layout that was created specifically for King's Island and not something that was pulled off the shelf.

Yeah this park needs a legit wooden coaster.

And just incase, I found some really nice wooden coasters on Etsy:

Which one is anywhere near as good as Mystic Timbers? None of them.
