In fairness, this could have had to do with the splash pool's brake function, but regardless it demonstrates the coaster's (or perhaps any of BGW's other B&M's) inability to properly function in the cold.
Back in 2010 my neighbors actually got a direct response from the park as to why Griffon was closed and it was due to the splash pool freezing up or being too cold in general, and when they tried to reopen the park got over a foot of snow. They switched to Alpengeist because no splash pool and if it snow it wouldn't affect the ride as greatly. Also, when I took the ultimate insider tour they were saying that all of the B&M's can ride in weather up to 40*, Verbolten can go to 32*, and Nessie doesn't have a set tempature but the park doesn't run her. I think Tempesto might be able to operate because it's older brother in California has experienced temps in the 30's and still operated. Of course that part about Tempesto is 100% speculation.

Um how many of us were at KD's pass holders day. I seem to recall quite a few coasters closed. Also coasters in cold temps as I can personally confirm from that day don't mix well.

Yes the rides don't run well in the cold, but likewise, people don't RIDE well in the cold. You get off of a coaster in the cold and you have hypothermia.

Perhaps it all comes down to the desired amount of work the Maintenance Department wants to put forth during the colder seasons? They say it must be above/at 40-42 degrees Fahrenheit at Apollo's peak for it to operate, and let me tell you, it is WAY colder than that some nights later in October.

park has closed coasters in october due to cold temps

Where she is born and of what stock are two entirely different things!
I was born in Virginia but I am of, among other things, Normand stock!

Put some sort of fan on the Verbolten cars and when riders get the Wolf effect it blows hot air to make it seem like the wolf is breathing on them.

I like it. But since Verbolten already cost 54 million I can't see them pouring in even more money on an unnecessary edition. Before you say something you need to think about the possibility of it happening when stating a concept. There's a reason why you don't see posts saying "500 foot tall looping launch coaster over the Rhine." Although if you have an idea throw it out there, just think about it for a little while then post. Keep up the creativity!

The Concepts Think Tank is for small or single-idea concepts that don't rate a full thread of their own. If you have a complex, fully-fleshed out concept, feel free to create a new thread.

And I agree with Shane: this thread is for brainstorming. Please do not feel the need to self-censor.

New France Redone

I have some ideas for a redoing of New France. I've done some research.

Rides
1. Chasse-Galerie: Based on the French Canadian legend of the man who loved hunting so much he skipped church and was condemned to spend eternity flying through the night, chased by galloping horses and wolves. The ride would be similar to der Wirbelend, but replaced with one and two person canoes, and the artwork on the ride machine would be of wolves, horses, and such.

2.Loup-garou(werewolf):roller coaster. Since that and Alpengeist are both named after monsters, make the two intertwine(maybe build a loop around some of it's track?)

Other
Temps des Fetes(Candlemas):festival during Christmastown featuring a seasonal donut/crepe stand

I think that they should put the trains that they have on banshee at kings island on Alpengeist. This would make the ride a lot smoother and more enjoyable.

So, we were thinking about Killarney and Festa during HOS and I came up a new idea for each.  I don't expect them to be very popular, especially since I have no interest in clowns, but I thought I'd share anyway.

Killarney
It occurred to me that while the EITA building is totally unsuited to a haunted maze, I think it would make a fantastic fun house, maybe a 3D fun house.  The screens and long hallways could be used very effectively.  The fear of heights illusion would fit well.  Unfortunately, the balloons probably would, as well.  I think the house could include tilted floors (crooked house), a spinning tunnel, a sophistical mirror maze, black lights and strobes, etc.

I would like to see Killarney and the Wild Reserve jointly themed to traditional British/Celtic "monsters," or perhaps European mythological creatures.  I noticed this year that there are no scare zones dedicated to traditional European monsters.  The Wild Reserve could be turned into a dark forest, full of supernatural creatures.  Killarney could be the home to witches and other frightening inhabitants of rural towns.

Festa
I think it could be cool to build a traditional labyrinth themed to Greek mythology.  Specifically, I would like to see the Minotaur's Maze in Festa.  It would not be a traditional haunted maze.  Rather than sending a line of people through a defined path, the park would create a real labyrinth and send people in from a variety of locations with goals of escaping the Minotaur and other Greek monsters, and finding the center of the maze.  It would probably need to be an up-charge and/or handled with reservations.  I think it would be cool to have a real maze, as opposed to a single path through a house.  Trying to find your way out, while dodging monsters could be fairly scary.
