The park looks to be packed tonight. 64 was backed up in both directions at 3. Route 60 was backed up well past 199. Good news for the park, bad news for people who don't like crowds!

I will never understand this...I went last night and the park was crowded but still pretty comfortable. I asked one of the team members in Ireland and they said the park wasn't expecting to be slammed, yet tonight they're slammed.

Normally I would say schools are out, but Chesapeake is currently the only public school system on break. Seems odd (I'll write a trip report tonight as it was my first time to CTown since 2013).

Nope. Everyone except Virginia Beach is out of school. Whilst everyone else is enjoying their break, I'll be in school through Wednesday.

DAMN - I stand corrected. Sorry for your loss...

Recipe for disaster.....1 car full of twinkle tickets, 12 surrounding counties of empty schools, 3 days of forecasted rain = CT disaster! Glad I am not there.

The traffic problem that Christmas Town caused today was just mentioned on WAVY's 11 p.m. news. One of their interstate cameras even showed one of the closed exits that the State police shut down.

From what I have heard, last night was the worst night in terms of crowds so far this year.  I'm sorry, but BGW needs to make changes next year, or the event will start getting a really bad reputation.

I agree with Nicole for something like that to end up on the local news means that there is someone that is ignorant of the issue and that is a problem.

I don't usually post here- just lurk but we went last night and have been coming to Christmas town since it opened and it was the worst I've ever seen it. We had a 3pm Santa fireside feast reservation that was half empty and I overheard the reason was people couldn't get in the park bc the traffic was so bad so they missed their reservation. The lines and bottle necking were insane, the park was extremely understaffed.

Speaking of local news, this made it into the Richmond Times Dispatch. http://www.richmond.com/news/virginia/article_036be5a0-a8e9-11e5-8bc6-e39e13332ba3.html

With all this bad press and guests complaints, I think the park will have to change its approach. I'm pretty sure VADOT, law enforcement, Williamsburg city council and locals all will have input about the affects and it won't be good. In the end money will be what decides the outcome and if BG is stuffing their pockets they wont care until they see they're losing money.

Does anyone have a prediction on crowds for today with the rain? We are navigating traffic in the NOVA area and would not like to finally get down there to just turn back around. Thanks!

If you had to pick the lesser of 2 evils... Would today be better with the rain (and maybe less crowds...?) or tomorrow? I guess what I'm asking is will the rain really keep a lot of people away on the day after Christmas? And is Christmas Town totally miserable in the rain?

I went to CT the day after Christmas once, and it was a nightmare. But the rain could certainly keep a huge chunk of those crowds away. If tomorrow definitely looks like the better weather day, I'd go today if I were you. Especially with the warm weather, rain doesn't really affect the experience to much- the crowds are low, and personally, I just love seeing the park in the rain.

My friend is there now. He said Verbolten didn't open until 4 pm and now has a full queue.
