The two times I've gotten turned around were in the 1-3 time frame, the other three were later, and I got let in all three times. Perhaps it's the employee who's typically assigned at the gate from the 1-3 time period?

Sorry to change the subject... But how were the crowds today? (12/14) I'm hanging on to every word you guys say about the crowds on the 12 dollar days, because I planned my vacation around CT not being busy. I'm really hoping the $12 deal doesn't foil my plans. I really hate people. ... No, that's not true at all. I really hate massive throngs of bratty, screaming kids and their rude, ignorant parents.  And lines. I despise lines.
Those of you who are blessed to live near the park and go often should keep me updated on the crowds! :) Thanks!!! I hate to say it, but I would rather not go at all than to go on a max capacity day. Ugh.

Crowds on the 14th were decent. Lines short as netdvn said. Things got worse as the day progressed, and at night it was very difficult to move more than a few inches at a time in the high density areas near the primary CT attractions. A lot of your normal rude groups of 20 people stopping in the middle of the walkways instead of going to the side, people walking on the wrong side of the path, people trying to take pictures in the worst possible spots, etc. I struggle going to the park at crowded times for this reason - the vast majority of people are selfish and rude, and care not if they lessen your experience. I was pushing around a tandem stroller and it was amazing how many people would have trampled over it if I hadn't gone out of my way (the right of way) to avoid them.

With that being said, I found plenty of spots without people to sit with my family to relax with some hot cocoa and talk and relax, taking in the lights. As crowded as it can be, you can make it work as long as you're okay with moments of frustration.

check the crowd calendar

Crowds were heavy yesterday but the lines weren't too bad. Busy for a Sunday before break but manageable. Weekdays should be OK with crowds. Even with the deal in place all the kids are still in school so that should help keep things down.

I actually used your calendar to plan my trip! So, thanks!!! (I lurk a whole lot, but don't post much!) But that was before the $12 deal. We are coming the day after Christmas (not going to the park that day, obviously!!) and we leave after the new year. So, kids will probably be everywhere, as well as the bargain ticket crowd. :/

Anyway, thanks everyone for satisfying my curiosity! Keep it up! :p

Also, on the topic of opening time-- if they open the gates at 2pm, will they open the parking at 2pm? Or earlier? Someone on this thread mentioned that they didn't open parking until gate opening time on one of those opening weekend crazy busy days. But I wasn't sure if that was the policy or a fluke.

It seems this year during Christmas Town, parking lots open the same time as the turnstiles. During the normal season, parking lots would open 30min - 15min prior to the turnstiles open.

Headed to the park and stoked about the rain!

I know what you mean.  With rain ending by 6 it should be a nice, peaceful evening.  I plan to visit tonight or tomorrow night.  Enjoy!
