Well that's one of the points I failed to make, I haven't been to the park this year, I've been avoiding it due to the crowds, I'll most likely be making it out this weekend. With that being said I might have a slightly changed perspective on the QQ thing then, I guess we'll see.

I always thought those angel decorations looked like Scream masks.

Can someone give me some advice? I have serious back problems and sitting in my car for long periods can bring about a lot of pain. Just the 2 hour drive can be challenging but at least I can stop and get out. Is the long wait at the exit just to get to the gate happening frequently? Should I expect it?
I do plan to get there early but that still means waiting in the car for the park to open.

One more question: is it worth it to pay for the insider tour to get into shows and get a meal without long waits? I just don't want to be in any pain (standing still is ALS difficult - movement is best for my back) and I will have to make the 2 hour drive back home.

Thank you!

Arrive at the gate early. If you're left sitting there for a while, you can walk out of the car, get shots of the new coaster etc.

Snag a disability pass if your back trouble causes problems. That way you're not forced to stand in lines for most of the major attractions (you'll be given a wait time to come back if it gets busy). First two hours and last two hours of the day are the most ideal to ride everything.

If waiting for the Festhaus becomes an issue, walk through the bathrooms. Just keep in mind the building will pretty much be standing room. Miracles won't have a wait but make sure you arrive early to snag a decent seat. Gloria and Scrooge are pretty much the only shows that have lines worth waiting in. Just snag and early/late show or arrive early for a showtime to get prime seats.

Avoid restaurants at peak dining times. If lines for the big restaurants become awful, I'd just wing it and snag a few things from the pretzel shop.

One thing I will say is that the long waits on the exit to get to the gate always occur later in the day. If you arrive early, most preferably a little while before the park opens, then you shouldn't have a major problem getting to the toll booths.

As far as the insider tour, I wouldn't recommend it if the only reason you'ye considering it is to cut waits and guarantee seats. The key to visiting during crowded times is to arrive early... I cannot stress that enough. If you plan strategically and get to the hot-ticket attractions a few extra minutes before showtime, you should be fine. However, there is also the Quick Queue pass which is cheaper than the tour and gets you exactly what you want: minimal waits and reserved seats. If you read the above discussion we are currently debating the value of Quick Queue. In my personal opinion Quick Queue is not the helpful during Christmas Town, and it's a waste of money overall. Also, the reserved seats the come with Quick Queue for the shows are terrible so that's not really a plus.

If you're really concerned about lines, Quick Queue is probably a better option than the tour. However, if you're actually interested in, you know, the actual tour part of the insider tour, I hear lots of good things about it.

As far as crowds go, check and see if you're going on a day where the $12 deal is offered. If it's not, you should be fine. If so, you may want to brace yourself! ;)

Edit: netdvn beat me to it.

Sorry if I missed it, but is there anything for New Years? I know they did fireworks at least one year, are they still doing them?

Given the current state of the park's finances, the closest they'll probably get to fireworks is to set fire to some laid-off employees and push them off Mäch Tower.

Just arrived at the park, crowds getting it weren't too bad...

EDIT: Overall crowds arent bad, Verbolten is a walk-on, only slightly congested crossing the Rhine into Germany

It was an awesome night at CT with low crowds. Festhaus beef sandwich which was advertised on the website as sirloin instead of previous years' prime rib was definitely sirloin tonight and more like a pot-roast meat sandwich than the prime rib it was the first few weeks of CT this year. I was hoping that was something they had decided not to change but generous addition of horseradish and salt made it palatable. I noticed the woman that was the lead in Miracles last year subbed in to Deck The Halls at the 6:30 show. I caught the best skyride leg to Octoberfest after dark with no one in line at all. I don't know whether people with $12 tickets have greatly diminished in number or the cold kept them away but I've been there other nights just as cold with huge crowds so maybe the former.

That is sad they are not going to do anything for New Years.

Apparently, the park is usually pretty empty on new years. I wonder if having a new years event would pack people in enough to pay for the cost of having the event. It would need to be more than fireworks, I think
