I agree, but that only leaves Saturdays. I don't go to BG on Saturdays.

Yes, many of my Orthodox friends have the same issue.  Since you can not drive on Saturday or operate machinery it becomes a very difficult proposition.  I suppose if you have a Sabbath Goy who offers to take you and the ride op operates the harnesses and your Sabbath Goy does all the buying it becomes a more reasonable proposition.

On the other hand...
You would not be at home reading Torah, and that is what you are supposed to be doing.

Cute, but not the reason I don't do BG on Saturdays. It's the crowds. LOL

Edit: I don't mind paying the extra price for Christmastown. I've always expected it to be an extra event. If anyone has ever been to Disney for their Halloween or Christmas events, it's a much steeper price for the add on event. I want them to keep Christmastown, so I'm okay paying separate for it. What I'm not okay with is having a sale on tickets, knowing how many were sold, and not being prepared to handle said additional traffic. There is no excuse for traffic to be backed up onto I64 for hours. Don't oversell cheap tickets and not have the resources to handle the crowd. If Sunday was a rare fluke, so be it. I just don't want to see this happening continuously through the season. Also, it's smaller capacity than in the summer so that should also mean they should have their stuff together when it comes to getting people moved through the lots at a reasonable pace. (I'd also argue that parking prices should be way lower during Christmas. It's not like they are even maintaining those lots. It's just straight cash for them)

Can platinum pass holders use the England employee parking gate and park in England during Christmastown?

Officially this benefit does not exist. I was personally turned around. That being said, some people claim to have gotten through. I certainly saw a stack of the passes in the guard shack. (as I was being turned around)
I think, frankly it depends on the guy manning the shack.

It has been my experience that BGW security is neither helpful or consistent. Sometimes they are flat out rude. So I suggest you tread lightly.

I have gotten through. I've been told that the issue is resolved and you can go through; however, I've heard two different reasons for people being turned away. One being it was a miscommunication and the other being they have the right to deny you entry there because technically (I'm assuming by corporate policy) their not allowed to offer that as a benefit.

Well the first day they were using the England lot for media. I assume that is the reason for not allowing pass members through that entrance and a few people didn't know that it was only for that day. However, as I said, I was told the situation was cleared up.

EDIT:

In case anyone missed the added dates this is a list of all the valid days original and added that are left: Dec 5, Dec 7, Dec 12, Dec. 14, Dec 15, Dec 16, Dec 17, Dec 18, Dec 22 Dec 24, Dec 29, Dec 30 or Dec 31, 2014 only.

Um, I was turned around on the second day of operation, and I don't think the park could fill up a lot with media even if they were announcing the world's tallest coaster. But then again, those mommy blogger vans do take up a lot of space.

They were turning people away, yet parking people over there regardless?? I don't see the point in turning people away if you're still gonna park people there.

I don't understand why they would deny platinum members this benefit since it costs them almost nothing and generates so much goodwill. They usually have one person working this lot who's positioned out on the street to direct traffic and inform people with appropriate tags of the lack of handicapped parking in England. I assume one person has to clean up the lot after closing as well. Unless I'm missing something, that seems to be the marginal cost of operating this area. (And since buses park here, they'd probably need clean-up anyway.) When it's crowded and they're parking everyone here they have additional people directing you to spaces, but in this case the marginal cost of allowing platinum passholders to the lot is $0. I have 6 friends who upgraded their passes to platinum not for the benefit of attending others parks but solely to park in England. I know it's not a guaranteed benefit but it is one that seems to generate extra revenue.

Anyone feel like England has become a huge bottleneck? The carolers were singing on the front steps of the theater when I got there, and so people stopped there to watch, while throngs of people were trying to enter and leave the area.

Its really no different from HOS. I've walked through the area on a peak HOS day and had no issues with bottlenecking. Even last year when there were two facades instead of just the one (although the other facade was just covering another building, it wasn't an issue.

As for the crowds, last Sunday was a fluke because of the nice weather and it being a holiday weekend. I'd expect everything to return to normal after that. There's rain in the forecast so chances are next weekend will be on the slow end of things. The cheap tickets probably contributed to the crowds, but with the weather being unseasonably warm, it would've been crowded regardless.

I really haven't been to HOS much, but the last time I felt like I was going to be trampled was at HOS back in the 2000s. They had the Jack show (or whatever it was called) right by Castle O'Sullivan's and the crowd was huge. Afterwards half the crowd wanted to go one way, the other half the other way. Some dude in a Rascal nearly ran me down, and I was separated from my friends for a bit. I was seriously afraid that time. I came pretty close to that same feeling Sunday evening in front of the Globe.

Regardless, I'm hoping I can convince my family to go this weekend despite the weather. I won't have a problem with cold and rain, but the kid and her grandparents might.

Just as a FYI for those of you thinking of going this weekend, Grand Illumination is occurring at Colonial Williamsburg on Sunday. We have family in town and are hoping that everyone will be at CW instead of Busch but traffic on 64 may be bad...

Pretty things around the park with CT lighting...

Look familiar? :)

Today was another crowded day thanks to the stoopid $12 deal. I was hoping it wouldn't be too bad, but the lots were all full out to Ireland. The restaurants were full as well. Festhaus was at max capacity. Trappers had a line extending into the walkway. Even Dasher's Diner had a line. It was crazy busy. On the bright side, the shows were outstanding and I discovered Dickens' Tavern as a great place for food.

Making me nervous for Sunday now. Though it's supposed to be colder so maybe it will be normal attendance that day.
