RE: BGW Christmas Town 2013

They stopped doing the Twickets at least for a year now. Last year they had a BOGO deal for pass holders only that replaced the Twickets. I think people are just freaking out over stuff they don't fully understand.

Honestly, what people need to grasp is Christmas Town is a separate event. Don't expect to get in dirt cheap all the time. THe park still needs to make money somehow. Just because you spent so many hundreds of dollars in the past, does not mean you are entitled to anything.

But before this turns into a rant, I do want to say that essentially, I think they are going in a good direction as far as pricing things. I think they are trying to jump to including it in the regular season too quick. The Fun Card deal I think was great for pass holders but for the general public is too far too quick.

RE: BGW Christmas Town 2013

I've been telling my friends and family, non pass holders, that they could get the unlimited pass all along. I know they didn't have it on the website as a ticket, but it was in the vacation packages. It was only a matter of time before they did this. They are all doing hotel pass package anyway. I expect bigger crowds though.

RE: BGW Christmas Town 2013

One thing I would like to say in regards to the economy is that in order to get people out to the park, the prices needed to be lowered. I am sure parents are more concerned about getting the latest technology for their kids Christmas gifts when it comes to where they have to spend their money.

I am not sure how crowded it will be due to the deals this holiday, but I guess we shall see.

RE: BGW Christmas Town 2013

The FAQ on the passholder page site says that you don't need your regular pass, only the Christmastown one during the event.

Also, I'm happy that the GP FunPasses are available for Christmastown. I'm the only one with the season pass in my house, so now my husband and 3 yr old can go several times this year.

RE: BGW Christmas Town 2013

Again...if you are a PLATINUM PASS HOLDER, you better bring your Platinum Pass if you want the benefit of getting through the Employee Entrance. Your CT Pass won't do it. Read carefully..."select Pass Holder benefits linked to regular pass." I will test it out in any event; bring your Platinum Pass folks!!

RE: BGW Christmas Town 2013

Sorry, my bad. Didn't read the distinction about Platinum Passholders. Carry on! :)

RE: BGW Christmas Town 2013

In most of the discussion of ticket and pass pricing strategies I've seen, both in this thread and in previous ones, people seem to be lacking understanding of some basic principles of economics. The one which is most applicable, and which provides the most insight into the pricing decisions I've seen the park make is elasticity. Specifically, elasticity of demand. For a decent explanation, see here.

When a business knows the price elasticity of its product, they can make intelligent decisions regarding pricing to maximize revenue. To do this requires data. This data is something BGW possesses, and we do not. Based on their actions, it's not hard to make some deductions.

- Cost of the product is relatively fixed. Once plans for Christmas Town are finalized (number of shows, amount of decorations, operating schedule) the cost may vary a bit (maybe 10-20%), but it's pretty much set.

- Maximum revenue is earned with full park capacity on every operating day. Best scenario is that every guest pays for full price tickets, and spends lots of money in the park on food and other merch. Anything less than this is money left on the table.

- Not every guest pays the same entry price. This is pretty self evident.

- Pricing over time can be manipulated to maximize revenue. Doing so requires an understanding of the price elasticity of your product (which BGW does). Assuming that CT at BGW is a very price elastic product, small changes in price should result in large changes in attendance. Also realize that even if admission were completely free for some people, having those people in the park is better for revenue, as some percentage will buy food and merch.

A simple pricing strategy, would be to start offering tickets at high prices. Wait some time until everyone who will pay for admission at that price has time to do so, then drop the price a little bit. This is a bit of a head game with your customers. If you tell them that there be discounts later, they won't buy at the higher prices. You need to make them believe that the price RIGHT NOW is the best deal they can get. You can do this by making the price discounts "limited time offers". Most people are psychologically programmed to respond to this type of offer, regardless of past history.

So, what can you expect for this CT season? My prediction is that the price will continue to drop as the season progresses. I expect BGW knows that there is an attendance spike at the beginning and at the end of the season, with a dip in the middle. That dip represents money left on the table. The smart thing to do is to offer steep discounts targeted for those dates, to get people through the gates who would not attend at the original high prices. Even if the price was trivial (say $5), and those people are getting in for far less than those who paid full price, food and merch revenue goes up on those days.

Yes, some vocal people will be upset that others paid less for their tickets. But it's not like those are lost customers. After all, they observed the variable pricing strategies from previous years and didn't learn. If they haven't learned from past experience, how seriously do you need to take their current complaints? Not much. "But it's not fair!" they will say. Well, if they weren't willing to pay that price for the product, they shouldn't have done so. The fact that others got a better deal than they did really shouldn't matter. See the Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard.

I'd love to see them do what Busch Tampa did on the trains last year. They had a live entertainer leading carols. Small touch, but it was a lot of fun. It would at least be better than the canned ones they have now. I mean really, ten dogs a-barking? WTF?
A kindred spirit!!! :D I made a similar statement last year...

I don't think you could decorate the train any more than they do.
You'd be surprised - check out Tampa's train (greenery and ornaments make a HUGE difference:

RE: BGW Christmas Town 2013

I'm assuming the non pass members who buy the Xmas town pass WILL NOT get the 10% discount we yearly pass holders get? That would peeve me.

And if not, we would need to bring our regular passes anyway to get the discount?

The whole thing is rather confusing. Between all the different pricing crap on BGW's site, and all the posts I try to keep up on in here, my head starts to swirl :s

So, I'm bringing my new Plat pass and my Xmas town pass until I see how everything rolls the first day. Considering how confusing this has all been, I can only imagine how the employees will be on day one.

As long as I get in the employee entrance and I get my 10% of my Guinness, I will stay quiet and not complain :p

It really isn't that confusing. Look at it like so,

CT Pass for Pass Holders
- Admission
- Basic Pass Benefits

CT Fun Card
- Admission

They both give you the same admission to Christmas Town; however the CT Pass includes basic pass benefits. If you are a pass holder, you can buy either or and it wouldn't make a difference other than one includes your benefits, and the other you just need to bring your own pass.

Of course, Platinum Pass Holders should still carry their passes either way, so as a platinum pass holder, its just the same thing but slightly different way of presenting it.

RE: BGW Christmas Town 2013

I have heard through the grapevine, that one of the cast members from Kings Dominion's 2013 "On Broadway" show will be performing in one of the shows in "Christmas Town". If any of you visit later this year and film or shoot photos of the shows, let me know and I will try to figure out who it is.

RE: BGW Christmas Town 2013

Hi! I'm newer to posting on the forums, but always a lurker.
My question: I have a 2 year old, and we have made it a Christmas tradition to see "bgw Santa" instead of at the malls! The past two years it was easy to entertain him w food, or snuggles, but this year, he isn't going to want to wait in line for upwards of 45 minutes just to sit on an old guys lap. And I feel SO guilty holding a spot in line while hubbs takes him to wander till I'm closer.

Is seeing Santa included in Quick Que? Or do you guys know if there is any other tips or tricks to see Santa?

Thanks guys!

Biggest thing: Europe in the Air remains closed and DarKastle won't be opening to replace it. That means we are down an attraction this year.

Also, the gingerbread man photo op in Holiday Hills (Frosty Friends Photos) seems to be gone. Lastly, I'm glad to see the earlier rumors of Mistletoe Marketplace's demise didn't come true.

Anyway, I'll keep looking for any other changes I spot...

What were you hiding from us? :p

RE: BGW Christmas Town 2013

I think Mistletoe Marketplace will consist mostly of park operated booths. It seems like the park has been slowly and slowly pushing out the vendor stands, and putting in their own.

Not sure if this hasn't been mentioned but, Aquitaine looks frozen in ice? I don't remember that from last year?

This is actually very possible. I've heard from countless people who would be familiar with the matter tell me that most (if not all) of the venders from previous years wouldn't be back this year. We'll see what happens with it.
