It is very hard to run live theater back to back. First off it would be murder on the cast and crew secondly that is small potatoes as you could theorecticly double cast and double crew the show. The cost would be extraordinary but ignoring that it often is just not practically possible. In just about every show I have worked on crew call is somewhere between 1.5 and 3 hours before a performance and cast call is between 1 and 2 hours. This of course depends on any number of factors not the least being makeup and props. However most shows also run a dimmer check, mic checks, rigging checks, and safety sweeps. Further you have to have time to fix things. If a lamp burns out on a instrument it takes time to bring out a ladder, find the right replacement lamp, change out said lamp, and validate instrument focus.

Live theater is just that, LIVE. You have to have contingency time. I tell people that during the run, not the build up to but during the run, every minute on stage is between 4 and 6 minutes of prep and tear down.
Im confused....what show are you referring to?

I’m not sure how true this, but in 2012 it was rumored that park was going to have the rose eyeballs and other Darkside of the Gardens items projected on the Festhaus.

This was very seriously considered. It was meant to be ambient—picture a vine covered Das Festhaus with rustling branches, eyeball roses, etc.

I really think that a mapping in the germany area where the old candy shop was would be cool too. Think Disneyland Forever Fireworks.

Firstly:

Ther is NO reason to imply that a member of the forum is hating because you don't agree with them. This forum ought to be a friendly place and there have been far too many hostile exchanges recently.

Secondly:

I understand your point. Even if you enjoy the mapping, it has taken away from one of the most iconic spots in bgw spare the clock in england. It is fine to do something like that on an icon, ie. castle at magic kingdom; but once you alter and remove things, you're on thin ice.

Some will like it, many old timers wont. I'm certain that such a thing is better suited for the facade of das festhaus, where it wouldn't be so destructive.

Firstly, it wasn't meant to be taken so seriously. The point still stands -- he doesn't like it.

Secondly, I agree there are better places it can be done.

still its not a terrible thing, the graphics aren't really horrid

I actually do like the projection mapping. Nobody can say it isn't cool.

I'm just saying, as are a lot of us on this forum, we prefer Wilkommenhaus. It is just one of those great things about BGW.

I think the projection mapping needs to stop being used as like a show on its own, and just needs to be something to enhance an already themed area, like along buildings or something, to where they don't have to ruin the building being projected on. Almost like a small details kind of thing, something we can appreciate the effort.

I have seen projection mapping displays at both Disney and Universal. In my opinion, it works better as a component of a multifaceted presentation. For me, it doesn’t carry a show on its own.

I think it also works effectively as a way to theme an area. That once again, however, isn’t a stand-alone “show.”

This im my opinion only*****

Busch failed at creating a "projection mapping" show. The whole idea of projection mapping is to animate a 3 deminsional surface such as a building. Usually projectors are placed in many locations to be able to project the images on all the various surfaces and angles of the building. The surfaces that the projection will be mapped is meant to be unchanged since the images forms to it. Busch failed by installing all the projectors side by side in one location then removing half of the fountain to not block the image projection. Then on top of that they covered the clock portion with a flat surface. I can think of at lest a dozen places where this would have beeen pretty cool but it seems they picked what was the simpliest cheapest place they could throw it in. I also do not think the images are very clear, either in images used were not crisp, or the projectors are trying to project a image much larger than it was designed.

Again, this just how I feel about the show, I am not against a projection show but it needs to be done good. The fact that they modified the actual building to make it work is a fail for me. Bring back the clock and fountain. I think my biggest fear is they never come back.

This (WDWRLD). Projection mapping is adjusting the image to be in concert with the 3D “screen”. Making a flat surface for the projection makes it a simple projection. The projectors are definitely better than your local sports bar, of course.

From my very very brief research a year or so ago it seemed as if most projectors would work, the key factors were that they be bright enough and have the resolution to produce a good image at the size and distance of object. The software and the computers ability to connect multipul projectors seemed to be the mapping specific things needed. I looked into if for a residential christmas light display.

They could be mapping projectors. The screens in DK weren’t all flat (were they? I can’t remember from our tour now), so mapping is used to keep the entire surface in focus.

My employer used to have four Christie projectors on a half-dome screen over a stage. Not 3D, but seamless motion across the four (one was for the zenith). We replaced them at one point, I think $20K each just for the units. Mapped them ourselves (amazing talent onsite), and then demolished the space two years later.

Darkastle had 2 large curved screens. The rest were flat. I know that the park had invested in replacing some of the projectors 2 or so seasons before the ride closed. Who knows where they've been repurposed.

If the the train that was damaged can't be used will they split up the passeger cars and have two trains or will there be only one (really long?) train. The train would probably go a little slower so everyone gets a good look at all the light so it should not be problem loading/unloading.
Will the sky ride be loading/unloading in England only or will you have to get off at the next stop?

I think the skyride is all stations for operations. I believe it’s only the train that will run one station.

yea they split the passenger cars between the two others, thats what others have reported seeing

they stopped the one station thing with the sky ride years ago because of the 3+ hour waits and the complaints for how long the line was
