It looked like the entire tender was tarpped, but only the cab of the engine. I’m hoping that makes it an easier (less costly) repair. New propane tanks, plumbing on the tender, some new plumbing and gauges/controls on the engine. The paint forward of the cab did not appear at all damaged, so I would imagine the boiler and such was not harmed in the incident. A lot of work, but not a complete refit at least.
Observation from 100 yards and all, and I’m no mechanical engineer...

There appears to be work going on with the blue train. The one long tarp has been replaced by an individual tarp for the tender and one over the back of the engine. Thered were several people walking around the tender and engine when I rode Invadr. I hAve no idea if this repair, damage assessment/investigation or simply a bunch of employees hanging out having their morning coffee but the replacement of the tarps in z way that appears to give easier access seems significant.

I was riding invadr too.
 
Was at the park today and can report that repairs seem to be in progress with the back of the train station that was burned. There is new wood being that has already been installed and roof shingles going in. Also like the earlier post said, there is a smaller tarp now on what I would assume is the section of the train most heavily damaged. So maybe we will see the trains run again sometime for HOS or Christmas operation, if not then I'd say it's safe to assume they will be back next season. I don't think the trains are going anywhere after all.

Also if you look closely at some of the train tracks, like near Pompeii, for example, there are weeds growing in the tracks which is a good sign that the trains aren't even operating with the maintenance teams when the park is closed.

I was crazy sad this past Sunday to see the train still closed. However, safety first. Mostly missed it for my 4p train and ice cream round trip.
 
When this first went down I wasn't thinking "hope it's back by HoS" since I figured it would be down for no more than a couple weeks. Now I'm at the point where I'm concerned.

Will it be up and running by peak Saturdays? October?
 
If this is not open for X-Mas town it is going to have a(n) (significant?) impact on the already over-packed walkway traffic. For that matter the same could be true for HOS. That could make the most (second to cold?) unpleasant part of these events worse.

Seems likely that they would have needed to call in a third party to do a full, comprehensive evaluation of the fuel systems for both of the remaining trains and maybe even a review of the park's existing railroad policies, training, and safety procedures.

I hate that the railroad has been down all this time, but, at the same time, I acknowledge that what happened is a massive, massive issue that the park really can't afford to have happen again.

Dale Brumfield commented that one of the reasons the KD removed their RR was due to the increasing restrictions and inspections. Only an uneducated guess but maybe, similarly to what you suggest after any casualty they have to go through an extensive inspection process before they can re-certify.

I read somewhere else, and for the life of me I can not remember where, some places are switching over to electric as it is less restrictive.
