Not too much for 2010. I don't know if they didn't put out much that year or I neglected to give a care. Of course, I'm missing the darn BGWMediaKit2010.pdf that I lost with some other kit files. Stupid hard drive.

Sorry, the b-roll was even older than that. It might have just been a BGEscape video. It was during the off season of 2008. John Reilly gave a quick speech, then they did a nice show to give a feel for what each area would be like. At that early stage, Santa even looked quite different. He was basically originally a full-out German style "Sankt Nickolaus" with bishop hat and everything. They later decided that this might confuse children, so they made an "Americanized" version with a similar cloak.

I'm posting this here in hopes that someone can help me. Back around 1994-1995 (not sure of exact year) BGW made a promotional/souvenir VHS that was sold in the park. My family and I were in the video, and we had a copy that got misplaced over the years. I'd love to get my hands on another copy, or find a digital version online if anyone knows where I can find it.

We believe we may have it - I'll keep you posted.

This one?

Today I rediscovered a treasure trove of old park memorabilia and publications from the late 80s through late 90s. One item in the pile: a small box of perhaps a dozen 35mm slides issued by Busch Gardens Williamsburg during that time period.

At a glance I was not sure whether they were media event swag or a souvenir collection sold in the park. Either way, there are some good images in there.

I gave the gift of a slide scanner to a family member last year. Coincidentally I am seeing said family member this weekend. If I can remember to do so, I will scan the slides and put them up here.

Looks like the exact date is 1993, and many of the slides appear unrecoverable. Not sure whether that damage occurred before or after I received them, as I never looked at them at that time.

But there are four that I can work with, titled:

1. Haunts of the Olde Country
2. Drachen Fire Roller Coaster
3. Roman Rapids
4. Rhine River

Images to come as technology and short-term memory permit...

Okay, here they are.  Some good, some meh, one slightly bizarre.  After substantial experimentation, this was the best I could get in terms of crispness and color from the four recoverable slides.  They were either degraded by time and storage, or just not that great to start with.

All images circa 1993 or earlier.  Imgur gallery is here with larger images that really make it obvious how far gone the slides were.

1. Drachen Fire.  Still has its full set of corkscrews in this image.  The cork being strenuously navigated by the train is the one that will be removed within a couple of years of this photo (i.e., after the '94 season). Such a great looking ride; I found it enjoyable enough although it was never one of my favorites. Not pictured is the Kingsmill resident 1/4-mile behind the photographer, muttering about the noisy contraption disturbing his afternoon on the porch of the home he recently bought knowing full well there was a gigantic theme park next door.

2. Roman Rapids.  Looks like the waterfalls are in full effect here.  As are the early 1990s! We have come full circle on those big glasses and plaid shirts, yet it is still evident that this image is from decades ago.

3. Busch Gardens Railway and Rhine River Cruise.  This image, mundane though it may be, was tough to get.  Color slides that feature such changes in brightness from area to area can be nearly impossible to transfer well using basic tools bought cheaply from Amazon.  To get this one I took 7 different images of different portions of the slide at different exposure levels, then created a composite "panorama" by using (read: abusing) Picasa and its surprisingly capable Microsoft ICE add-in, which more or less accidentally managed to balance the section-by-section levels while unnecessarily stitching everything together.  This was as good as it was going to get. Saved by software!

4. Haunts of the Olde Country. I had to save this one for last, as it really has me wondering who decided this shot should be the one chosen to represent "Haunts" in the slide deck. This slide was nearly impossible to capture due to brightness challenges, and shares the fuzziness of the entire set. But as for the actual content of the source photo... there's so much to say about this one. I don't even want to get started. Just ... enjoy.

OMG AWESOME! i actually was able to ride drachen fire or even see it at the park. So for me that is really cool!!!

After posting the Wolf Valley press release, I'd thought I pull some others out of the stash. Neither a media kit nor publication per se, but best thread I see for this.

New Gateway To Adventure Opens At Busch Gardens Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG, Va., March 12, 2001 - Voted the world's "Favorite Theme Park" in 2000 and America's "Most Beautiful Theme Park" for nine consecutive years by the National Amusement Park Historical Association, Busch Gardens Williamsburg unveils it's 27th season of fun March 24 with a new entrance, new ticket offers and an unprecedented rain guarantee.

Visitors will find a new way to enter the theme park in 2001. "We have constructed a larger entrance and toll plaza to accommodate a greater number of guests simultaneously entering the park," said Larry Giles, vice president of design and engineering at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. "We have grown from six lanes to ten; that will allow visitors to spend less time parking and more time playing," added Giles.

Road signs direct guests to the new gateway, located half a mile farther east on Route 60 than the previous entrance. Employees, tour buses and delivery trucks will continue to utilize the original entryway.

The park entrance isn't the only thing new for guests in 2001. The charming new Irish hamlet of Killarney at Busch Gardens Williamsburg opens Saturday, May 19. Killarney is home to "Irish Thunder," a world-class Irish step dancing extravaganza at the Abbey Stone Theatre, and Corkscrew Hill, a 4-D adventure through mythical Celtic lore. From adventure and enchantment to food and folklore, guests encounter an authentic journey through the Emerald Isle.

Also in 2001, the European-themed park launches the all-new Summer Sizzler Passport. The pass is available for purchase through April 30 only. The Summer Sizzler offers guests unlimited admission to Busch Gardens Williamsburg or Water Country USA through Aug. 31, 2001, for only $59.99.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Water Country USA announce an unprecedented guarantee for guests who experience rain during their visit to the Williamsburg parks in 2001. If it rains, the very next day is free. "We want every guest to enjoy every minute at our parks, rain or shine," said John Gillespie, vice president of marketing for Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Water Country USA.

Renowned for world-class roller coasters including Alpengeist and Apollo's Chariot, Busch Gardens features more than 40 thrilling rides, shows and attractions.
