RE: Floating Bridge Replacement Between Heatherdowns & Rhinefeld

Now who thinks that we will expect a beautiful bridge, and we come back next year to see a glittery wonderland on the water. :dodgy:

It would be nice if they'd replace the stairs from Heatherdowns with escalators like the ones at Ocean Park in Hong Kong. They can add a set to the hill from the Rhine to Germany too! :p

No! They never had those back in the olde days of Europe.

To be perfectly honest, I think the bridge was open for the first year of Christmas Town, every other year it has been closed. I think it could be a liability issue. Icy and slippery hills are no fun. Perhaps someone got hurt and they had to close it off?

^First year half the park wasn't open so going over the bridge completed the circle they had going. Every year since they had the main park circle open so I'm guessing it has something to do with that.

Hopefully they will keep the flagpoles on the side. Those really keep that bridge beautiful.

They'll be back.

Also, just as a little note: The new bridge isn't a floating bridge. Bit of a shame if you ask me, but meh, it should still look fine. More soon.

While a floating bridge certainly has its charm, I'm thinking this new bridge will make nighttime picture-taking a little easier; especially for long exposures. ;)

Interesting will it be made out of wood, or some type of wood still? Or will it be made with concrete and aggregate like the San Marco bridge? Or Both?

It's still predominantly wood but has a much more refined, modern style compared to the current design. It certainly doesn't look to have that "dock"-like feel anymore. Also, I do think having a floating bridge was a rather unique, charming aspect to that area. I'm sure the new bridge will look fine and most people won't even notice anything changed, but it was just a little unique touch that's going the way of so many other such things these days. I know why it's happening- I get the reasoning behind it- it's just a bit of a shame. :-/

Anyway, another shot of the current bridge.
