RE: Bitten (2009 to Present)

Well folks I have some very exciting news! Bitten will be replaced in the 2015 season! Your probably wondering this but how do I know? Well I stuck a staked a piece of mulch into the ground right before I went into the house. Now all we need is some garlic... Also this year coming out of the room with the hanging bodies a scare actor popped out of a closet or something like that and a strobe went off. I don't remember this scare at all but needless to say best scare from Bitten ever. The actors this year I have to say really got into it so congrats to them.

That scare has been there for years. Usually, that strobe will drive you mad if you use it all night long so normally the scare actor will turn it off here and there or all together.

I dont know about actors turning off effects, but occasionally technical people will come in and turn off/on effects all throughout the night. Especially fog, as sometimes (often) it gets too bad.

It really amazes me how much the lighting plays a part in the way you see the set. They even have a few different lighting modes in Bitten that change throughout the night. The throne room is the most obvious lighting change that occurs. Sometimes the entire room looks blue rather than red.

RE: Bitten (2009 to Present)

I know Bitten went under renovation over the Summer which makes me wonder, did they finally reverse the house? I myself doubt this but with Lumberhack also taking place in Festhaus park they could have the line go on the path near the Verbolten show building, begin with Lumberhack and then go to Bitten. While the park has never done this configuration I could see this working as Lumberhack is the new house so for all those who just want to experience Bitten which is five years older wouldn't have to wait as the main reason majority of people will be in line is for Lumberhack. (You just have to ask the cast member out front, or at least that's how it was in 2010) I remember seeing speakers along the path over by Verbolten back in August. Either way, really happy to see one of the best houses in HOS history return. Less than four days...

I was at the park today and the back doors were open and there was props and stuff out on the ground in FHP I thought they might be removing it but now I read about renovations

thats the first time in years those props have seen the light of day, at least thats what i think.

RE: Bitten (2009 to Present)

you could clearly see props and other part of the house just on the ground in FHP while on the train. Keep in mind it rained almost all day yesterday.

RE: Bitten (2009 to Present)

I have tried to get a number of Park executives to answer as to whether or not there were Bitten props sitting outside. I didn't see any this weekend that were specifically from bitten however I saw some from ROAE. Their answers were all along the lines of Tempesto questions.

RE: Bitten (2009 to Present)

I was in the park again for Glory In the Gardens in FHP and there were maintenance trucks and the side doors to the house were open all whilst the concert was happening. Bitten is the house on the left correct?

RE: Bitten (2009 to Present)

It's the big one(DF's old station). The smaller one that used to be the maintenance building was last used for Hunted.

RE: Bitten (2009 to Present)

Do you think that the park is putting a new theme and maze inside the place ?Cause the building has the potential to be used for multiple mazes, though that would mean the territory would have to be changed as well any word on that ?

RE: Bitten (2009 to Present)

I'm not trying to be negative, because I would actually love to see something like what Hessian described above. However, Bitten has a slightly smaller footprint than Busch Gardens Tampa's smallest maze location, even though Tampa uses pavilions.

Busch Gardens (both Williamsburg and Tampa) are masters at utilizing small spaces to their highest potential. I have even joked that they could use the now-vacant, former locker area of Griffon for a maze. Universal's Halloween Horror Nights uses their budget to create huge rooms; which are dressed to the nines, only to have much shorter experiences than the mazes at either of the BG parks.

Bitten, however, is one of the most well designed in-house mazes in terms of layout. That's primarily due to how much they can do with the small space they are given. Whatever maze replaces it will need to choose between whether it wants to have 4-5 grandiose rooms, or deliver a lengthier path. Either way, it needs to be a meaningful experience in whatever course they take.

I think that most people at BG would be utterly disappointed with 4-5 very well done rooms versus lengthy paths with very little along the way. Ex: Griffon and Lumberhack; or on the flip-side, Scarlett's Revenge.

I'll be in the park on sunday...i'll try and get pictures but I'm going with my whole family and extended family so...we will rpobably end up riding the train though

RE: Bitten (2009 to Present)

It would make more sense to move Scarlett's Revenge to the Bitten house. The theme matches the building and location a little more and no more "flying Scarletts."

Busch Gardens said:
FrostBite, which replaces the retired Bitten, gives Busch Gardens seven haunted houses.

Since Bitten (and the building) are no more for Howl-O-Scream, I'm missing it already. Right now I am typing up a venue flow (the official method the park uses to document a maze in writing) to commemorate this maze. I hope some good mementos (photos, videos, etc.) surface soon.

In the meantime, here is a preview of the first rooms. I'm not far along enough yet to follow a more authentic venue flow format, but please feel free to comment or give advice. If anyone has any good references for the maze, particularly the trickier winding pathways at the end, please send me a PM. Thanks, and enjoy!

Walkthrough
You start the maze by going over a bridge which leads into the house. The music is playing a crescendo on a loop so that you hear the loudest part of the song from a speaker directly above you as you enter the house. The music playing is “Mina’s Photo” from the film "Bram Stoker's Dracula". You enter through a doorway arch adorned with… into a long hallway, (almost the length of the house itself) with stone walls which have vertically situated wooden coffins in the walls, used as hiding places for the actors to pop out at guests through curtains.

At the end of the hallway is the small room. The first thing you see is a sideways coffin (or originally, a bench with a dead man) parallel to the hallway with a wreath of dried roses above. As you enter the room turning to the left, you see a large wooden coffin that is partially open. There is a vampire jumping out from behind the coffin and slamming the lid. This is a great two-way scare, because immediately thereafter, another vampire jumps out to your left. As you go through parted red curtains ahead, you enter a small library room. There are tall bookshelves on either side. Hidden by the curtain on your right is a vampire mannequin which is leaning towards guests, and he is spring loaded so that anytime someone touches the parted curtain, he moves to make people think he is real.
