I was perusing all of the articles on Behind the Thrills site about Diagon Alley, and it really made me a bit sad about Banbury Cross.  Looking at the London area they are building, Universal is really going to end up making BGW seem even sillier.

Universal also has piles and piles more money than Busch.

Has there been any updates to what we might expect for the final product? I'm very excited about this and London Rocks! Is there really a legit reason for all the hatred for this project that nobody has seen yet beyond clinging to the past? Banbury Cross is actually really dull, and does a really bad job getting guests pumped up for an exciting day at the park. I also don't understand why everybody is afraid that it will look gaudy when the same people were responsible for the Aquitaine that everybody loved last year.

Also, what's wrong with changing the area to match the show? You guys want immersive, right? This will provide that and promote a show. Since you guys are assuming that there has been a huge drop in guests, the show needs all the promotion it can get to bring in people.

There really haven't been any valid complaints against this thing, but I guess that's what the internet is good for.

Why do you insist on trolling non-stop? Banbury Cross hypes me up. I love the sights, the music, the atmosphere, it's all fantastic. When I walk to the front gates, I love knowing the first thing i'll do is walk through Banbury Cross.

As much as you have said you don't like KD, you should really go back. They cater to your taster perfectly. If you want top 40 music and rides all over the place, that's for you. Plus im sure your kid will love it also.

I just want to respond to this point. There is no assumption, it was confirmed by SEAS CEO Jim Atchison recently on the year end conference call with investors. He said attendance was up at all SeaWorld branded properties (that includes the water parks & Discovery Cove), including a record year at SeaWorld Orlando. But overall attendance chain-wide for the year was down. Meaning to counteract the huge gains made at the SeaWorld properties, BGW, BGT and/or Sesame Place had to be way down in their numbers.

I agree with Mike79.  Banbury Cross is just a pass-through for us to get to the good stuff.  We were there on Saturday & Sunday and the only change I saw was a big sign across from the theater advertising London Rocks.  Since there were no major changes in BC over the winter and the new show starts in May, I doubt that there will be any significant changes.  I don't understand the issue with London Rocks not matching the BC theme.  Pirates, which was there forever (and ready to be retired), had nothing to do with the BC theme.

Change is good.  Without change, the park would be stagnant.  New shows and attractions during Haloscream and Christmastown keep BGW exciting!  I'm looking forward to London Rocks!

First I want to say welcome to the forums to our new members. Feel free to introduce yourselves in the introduction thread.

I'm also taking a wait and see approach to what is going on in BC. But at the same time I just don't want the entire area surrounded in theming from one show.

Also a note to our regulars:

It's never a bad thing to have someone come in and have a different point of view than most of the board. Keep that in mind and stop taking things so personally.

I also want to note that I for one am happy to see different opinions coming from future friends. What I don't find acceptable is when these users attack/insult those who are already members of the community when they don't have the place to do so.

Personally I think Banbury Cross isn't supposed to get you "pumped up".

It sets the stage as far as thematic elements as for what is to come. It makes you think you are somewhere else by it's sights & sounds. It is a calm and quiet of the park. It's not supposed to be an in your face balls to the wall area. And it does that very well.

It has all the features of the fountain area at Kings Dominion. Main gate, guest services, Gift Shops, Places to eat, places to relax for a few minutes before heading into the main areas of the park, but it does it with so much more class in my opinion. That is what I like about the area.

I get the fact it hasn't changed much at all over the years. But I remember walking through those gates the first time over 30 years ago and being blown away by the level of detail there.

If you consider it dull by all means please pass through and start your day while I take in the sights and get a drink, maybe A quick snack and just sit for a few minutes and appreciate what is around me.

I get London Rocks will change the area but I hope as many do here the effect is minimal.

Just my thoughts.

It is the entrance/exit hamlet, so I don't expect any major attractions, just stuff to kind of help start your day and then then end your night. You can go in, get breakfast, and browse some shops and then go throughout the rest of the park and when you leave you can get a quick dinner, buy last minute souvenirs, etc. It makes for a nice entrance and exit.

With that said, I do not like how they are promoting this show like it was a ride. I think passing a show off as a major ride attraction is just a sore excuse for we ran out of money or we have no more ideas left. Personally, it comes off to me as we want to add something new and exciting like a new ride, but we can only deliver half that and hype up this show like it was some new ride.

If you look back they did the same thing with Verbolten. They went and tried to "Black Forest-fy" everything. Everything had to match the Black Forest theme to promote the ride. For a major ride or coaster, that makes sense and that is fine. But shows should not be that hyped up.

While I understand people have different reasons for visiting the park, some like shows others like rides, I feel a large amount of people visit theme parks in general for the rides mainly. In fact, when I tell people I go mostly for the atmosphere, food, and shopping, they look at me funny.

With that, I think rides are supposed to really help incorporate the hamlet theme and they can be used to recreate a new theme or strengthen an old theme. Shows, restaurants, etc. should likely help build the current theme not change it.

I do have good hopes for the show and the renovation of the hamlet. I don't think it will turn out as badly as people expect it to be, even now. I also find it absurd that they assume the show will be so popular they have to give out tickets. This should not be like those teen pop concerts. I don't expect it to be. After all, I have never seen any show pull in tons of people off the pathways to the extent they need to give people reserved tickets. I seriously hope this system dies out quick. With that said, shows in the Abbeystone serve more of a reason for the reserved tickets.

Essentially though, I have my hopes and my doubts just like anyone else. I prefer to lean on the more hopeful side of things, but I do have doubts.

PR, if you just said that the first time, you probably would've been my best friend!;-P I think you sum up, just about all my feelings towards what has been confirmed and what is being rumored. Great, great post PR!

In seriousness, I think that post perfectly puts things in perspective. It really does capitalize on the big picture and what the issue really is. Not too shabby, PR! ;-P

Geeze guys, I am capable of greatness :p For those skipping over it, the main issue is the show is changing the hamlet when shows aren't supposed to do that.

I totally understand the issue, I just choose to have faith for the outcome of the hamlet and show.
