A FB page was saying Alpengeist was stuck on the MCBR. Out of curiosity, can the train get moving from a standstill there without outside help?

Happens every morning during block checks. It gets back rolling just fine. All of the coasters do a block check every morning and that means every ride with an MCBR gets a train stopped on it every day. Maintenance resets the block and off it goes.

While others have already answered this question, I think it may be helpful to know that a majority of rides with MCBRs have some method available for the trains to restart.

Most seem to be gravity-driven, in that the brake runs aren't actually flat but slightly angled in the direction of travel, though some also have an additional method of propulsion such as a tire drive system or LSMs.

It seems that only a few rides such as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or Space Mountain have their brake runs designed in a way that makes restarts a hassle... Though in normal operations they don't really get used except for any necessary block checks. ElToroRyan made some decent videos on YouTube that go into details if you were interested in learning more about them.

It was the same way last Friday when I was there. So you'd have to believe it's a cost cutting measure to not open it during lower attendance hours.

I realized that Alpengeist is the only B&M at Busch Gardens to lack a safety brake spiel.

Griffon: "Welcome back. We hope you enjoyed your ride. At this time, please unbuckle your seatbelt. Once again, please unbuckle your seatbelt."
Apollo's Chariot: "Please keep your feet and legs completely inside the ride. Once the train has come to a complete stop at the station, please push up on your harness and exit quickly and carefully to your right."
