RE: 2015 Dining Changes

The "Dining Locations" page has returned to the park's website, although no changes seem to have been made to the page yet.

The only change I see was that they dropped the water park location for "Chick-Fil-A". Other than that, the dining page is the 2014 version (still emphasizes those new/revamped food locations for 2014).

No 2015 updates yet. Curious, why they would re-post the 2014 page and not go ahead and show a refreshed 2015 version, at least with the new Tex-Mex food location for the water park.(Not that I was expecting major menu changes to the majority of the restaurants/stands).

Wonder if the web admin put up the wrong page or if they intended to use last years. Wonder if CPFoodBlog has any insights to this?

They are still finalizing all the new details. :)

Thanks for the update!

Joe has noticed a couple changes since the Dining Page was added back to the park's web site [posts above]. I assume Chef Paul and the food service department are updating the Dining page on a food location by food location basis. I look forward to see what the Chef has in store for some of the other Restaurants/stands!

I will also be keeping track of the food happenings at Kings Dominion and other Cedar Fair parks this 2015 season on CPFoodBlog. Look forward to the info and photos of the new entrees/sides as well as the special food related events throughout 2015!

Seems like lately KD has been taking BGW ideas.Bistro 75, Season pass holder preview day, now this "mini food and wine festival"^. Whats next?

RE: 2015 Dining Changes

For what it's worth, neither a food and wine festival or a pass holder preview day are concepts pioneered by BGW, either.

RE: 2015 Dining Changes

We have discussed this before: BGW invented al fresco dining. Clearly they invented wine festivals too!

RE: 2015 Dining Changes

While BGW may not have been the first to bring these things to the industry, they were the first to bring these things to the local market. I don't believe for a second that KD would have been making these moves if BGW hadn't taken similar steps first.

That said, I also don't believe that KD deserves any criticism for the fact that they're taking plays out of BGW's playbook. That's how this (and every other) industry works. KD would have never been launching a mini-Food & Wine fest if BGW hadn't started their Food & Wine Festival. BGW would have never debuted a Food & Wine festival if EPCOT hadn't introduced it to the industry years ago. Even going beyond that, EPCOT would have never founded a Food & Wine festival if some other random group hadn't introduced one outside of a theme park.

Everything is iterative. No shame in that.

Anyway, hopefully that sorta closes the book on that discussion. Should probably push this thread back towards general dining changes and let Spring Bloom's food components live on in the Spring Bloom thread. :)

RE: 2015 Dining Changes

Interestingly, the link to the Dining Locations page has once again been replaced with "Check back soon for 2015 locations." again. Guess they weren't ready to make it public after all. :p

RE: 2015 Dining Changes

The link to the page is still missing on the main Dining page, but I got to it through another page on the site. Here is is! Link

You'll notice the images have been replaced for almost every restaurant. Happily, they seem to be actual images of that restaurant's actual food instead of stock Cedar Fair images. So yay!

There are two new restaurants coming to Soak City, Pepe's Tex Mex Americano and Surfer Joe's.

They also added Coca-Cola Marketplace to the page for the first time, saying they can be found throughout the park. I wonder if they're adding another one to the park this season, or if that's just marketing spiel?

RE: 2015 Dining Changes

Whoa! The new food overview is up on the parks web site; along with the new park wide food location menus!

I think 90% of the park's in-house food venues have been touched by Chef Paul and his new culinary team for 2015! Some changes range from new entrees/sides to a whole new menu for Wayside Grill in Old VA. Juke Box Diner gets a burger fixings bar this year, like Hungry Hippo. Seems every in-park food venue has at least a small tweak by Chef Paul. I had to actually read every food location menu to see the changes that were made for this year.

RE: 2015 Dining Changes

It does sound way better than last year! It certainly makes my new dining plan more exciting. I had hoped the all day dining would be usable at ALL of the KD run eateries, but maybe there is still hope for a few to be added.

RE: 2015 Dining Changes

Some differences I noticed:

-Pepe's Tex Mex Americano in Soak City is now Fonda's Fiesta
-Largely expanded menu for Juke Box Diner with special burgers and milkshakes
-New fish and shrimp items at Outer Hanks
-New "Safari Sauce" and veggie burgers at Hungry Hippo
-New desserts, sauces, and pulled pork at Country Kitchen
-Kilimanjaro Chicken Shack has an expanded menu, with pulled chicken sandwiches, chicken pizza flatbread, and pesto chicken personal pizza
-New meatball parm and Philly cheese steak sandwiches at Dinner Bell
-Victoria's Pizza has returned to its original name, Victoria Gardens!
-New menu at Wayside Grill, with beef brisket, pulled pork sandwiches, grilled moonshine sausages, "sidewinder fries," and coleslaw

Things are really looking great this year for culinary. Thank the Lord for my all-season dining pass!
