Browsed the park's web site and noticed that all dining location descriptions and general food offerings are gone. Says: "Check back soon to see what is coming in 2015!"

I think that is the first time the whole dining section on the web site has been eliminated during the off-season. I think in previous years they did minor tinkering with some of the existing dining locations and added new food/dining locations when a new outside food vendor came into the park. I can't think, off the top of my head, when the whole food section was last revamped.

Maybe Chef Paul is working a little of his culinary magic at some of the food locations for 2015?

RE: Possible Dining changes coming?

Last year when talking with Chef Paul he said he was very interested in formalizing the street bistro and he indicated he wanted to move it somewhere indoors with a dedicated kitchen. Maybe they have something in mind.

We also know the 50' on the Tower has been talked about for restaurant in the past as has the top lower level. Both would require extensive upgrades and modifications. I really hope they do something like that. I would LOVE a high end restaurant.

That page has said that for about a month now. However, the actual Dining Locations page, unchanged, can still be located using a simple Google search.

I am sure you can find a cached version of most any web page out on Google.

I was making the point that the park dropped the link to the existing dining locations page on their web site. I would think that, at the least, the dining page might be revamped; or, if Chef Paul has tweaked menus or even changed a whole food venue, then we might see some changes along that line. (I did check the KD web sight less than 2 weeks ago and the old dining location link was working then).

RE: Possible Dining Changes Coming?

The same source who gave me some interesting news about Rebel Yell also told me a bit about what we might expect from the Culinary Department in 2015. Take this with a massive grain of salt, but what he told me was that we can expect major changes to three dining locations at the park. I'm not sure if the gourmet WaterWorks cabana dining is included in one of those three.

I also don't know if this counts as one of the three, but I was told that the Auntie Annie's building is being reconfigured. Last year it had a horribly awkward setup that made the shop extremely inefficient. Sounds like that may be tended to this season.

I wish there was more to tell, but alas...

RE: Possible Dining Changes Coming?

The food location most likely to have a transformation in menu/food, in my opinion, is the Country Kitchen. I could see Victoria's pizza menu to be expanded to serving more than pizza, bread sticks, and salads. Maybe the Outer Hanks food location menu being tweaked.

Course, what counts as a major change and what locations are involved is another matter.

I definitely think the Country Kitchen has the potential to become the park's "signature" restaurant.

RE: Possible Dining Changes Coming?

Might want to check out the CP Food Blog site. They have the first clues as to what potential new menu items will be available at Kings Dominion for 2015. (You will have to click the previous page at the bottom. The current page has all the Carowinds latest food offerings/events. Seems 2015 is the year of CW.)

Couple Highlights:

Fish Tacos
New Salads
Better BBQ
New Side Items

Bistro 75 is coming back. Sorry, no mention of the Eiffel Tower being used.

Not much in the way of details. I assume dining plans are being finalized. Not sure if/how this ties into Joe's "insider" info above.

There are photos from last year on the blog site. One, though, is of salads on one of the Bistro 75 outdoor tables. Never saw that one before. Take a look.

RE: Possible Dining Changes Coming?

CP Food Blog is reporting a few more dining changes and a little background on a few food events. (Some things have been reported earlier).

Spring Bloom event: Food Tastings at several locations on International Street

"Chef Maloney also utilities his military background expertise to bring the first of its kind Military BBQ Challenge. The vent will feature teams from each branch of service in a throw down event with special guest judges, prizes and amazing BBQ dishes to sample. This is going to be one can not miss event!"

"Did you hear about the all new, rebranded Soak City coming to Kings Dominion this season? Well Chef Maloney offers to bring the park dining experience right to the pools. There will be a new American BBQ/Tex Mex street food stand, selling unique beer options to go along with the incredible food. This will replace the current Chick-fil-A location."

Course, another BBQ event in August as reported earlier.

"In addition, look for an all new Oktoberfest event later in the year."

Some reported food events still don't have official dates set at this time. Thanks to CP Food Blog for the italicized info. (might have to scroll back a page to see the entry).

RE: Possible Dining Changes Coming?

This makes me curious about KD's bogus beer rules. Setting up a food cart in the water park and selling beer could mean they are dropping their 'you must stand in this small roped off circle and drink' policies. We know the 'signs' and 'recordings' say that VA law prohibits consumption outside of designated areas, but maybe they have come to their senses like the park down the road and made the whole park the 'designated area'. I have spoken with management about this on a few occasions.

RE: Possible Dining Changes Coming?

I could think of many food locations that Chef Paul could use to replace for more unique food ideas; I'm looking at you Starbucks, Panda Express and Chick-fil-A. Auntie Anne's and Cinnabon are fine where they are.

It would be really good if Apple Ida's sold shrimp again, just like the original food stand did in the 70's, but Shrimp Shack has taken that part.

You likely won't see too much, if any, messing around with the menu options at any of those locations due to the nature of them being chain restaurants.

Keep an eye out for all of the new menu options and dining locations to be announced very soon.

I think VAman93 was referring to Chef Paul replacing one of those chain locations with an "in-house" venue. It seems, though, that Cedar Fair is happy with a mix of chain restaurants and in-house food venues across the park chain.

EDIT: So I don't see any major changes for any of the chain locations for 2015 at KD.

Sorry, I just remembered that the Soak City "Chick-Fil-A" location is going out the door for Chef Paul's new Tex-Mex location. Not sure if that impacts the "Chick-Fil-A" location across from the "All Wheel Sports" show venue. I will now be dining on fillet of shoe sole. Please pass the salt.

The latest Cedar Fair food venue trends has been the addition of the "Chickie & Pete's" chain in several parks and the addition of combo food court/show venues such as "Harmony Hall" at Carowinds.

Thanks so much for your CPFoodBog site and those "sources" who contribute so much information about the food and "goodies" across the Cedar Fair park chain!  :D
