El Dorado is a fair ground ride. Nothing permanent, it hooks up to a trailer. It's still on-site, behind Hurler in the bone yard. It was a very mediocre ride in my opinion.

It's still up for sale: http://www.italintl.com/detail_page.php?record_id=1523

I doubt it will be sold, I'm sure it will be sold for scrap just like Hyper Sonic.

New Ride

Okay, so this is just my opinion on a new ride but what I personally think they should do at KD is replace Boo Blasters on Boo Hill with a new wooden roller coaster. We have all ridden the Hurler, Grizzly, and Rebel Yell countless times. We also know the excitement there is in a new ride opening at any theme park. A new ride would go perfect with KD, it would attract more visitors, and it would be very big (but not too big). It could be roughly 120 feet tall and speeds of about 75 mph. I think they have enough room to do it. It could be themed haunted and could have a maze, similar to Flight of Fear. It could start in the Boo Blasters building, come out, then go up the lift hill of (once again) 120 feet. I have 1 name idea, Rattlesnake, the reason why is because it twists sharply and turns quite abruptly. As I said it would have twists and turns outside the building and would have a large drop with very high speeds, especially for a wooden coaster. Although I can conclude that this won't be coming any time soon, I still think that it would be a cool enhancement for KD.

No chance of anything happening to Boo Blasters and I highly doubt a 5th woodie would be added. If a woodie is built, one of the existing ones will go.

El dorado may be mediocre, but the ride is a great family ride and it's another way to get people off the midway. I wish they would just put it back in.

I don't think the park would get rid of a ride and/or clear the space solely to put in a "mediocre" ride that was never meant to be a permanent addition.

It wasn't even "Mediocre." My grandparents rode it with me who are in there 60's and said "Was that supposed to be a ride? Because it was nothing like the one at Busch Gardens." The ride over-all wasn't thrilling. Maybe they could find a place for it behind Dominator and make it part of Planet Snoopy.

I'd love to see the sky ride return. That park needs a transportation ride something awful. But if it's a coaster I see it going in behind Hurler with some type of new section.

The park's property line is only 40-50 yards south of where the Hurler is located. Kings Dominion does not own the land to the south of Hurler. That land has never been in the park's possession since the park was constructed in the 1970's.

If you look at a google satellite view of the park, you can see the service road that runs east-west; parallel to the southern side of the Hurler. Right past Hurler's 1st drop and turn, the service road then makes a 90 degree turn to the south and goes behind the original wave pool. There is a small power line that parallels the service road heading south as well. The service road goes all the way down south until it almost reaches the major electric transmission lines that run from the southwest to the northeast. All lands to the north and east of that service road and the electric transmission lines belongs to KD. The lands south and west of that service road and east of interstate 95 is privately owned property.

They have 610 acres on the other side of the tracks, adjacent to volcano/avalanche. My friend used to run the challenge discovery in the woods over there and KD did not allow the program to return this year. Hmmmm...

I think I'm going to buy it and put it in my backyard

I'm not sure I see why it is necessarily bad? Reading the minutes, I don't see overwhelming support in North Carolina. It says they were choosing between the two parks. Has a decision been made, since this meeting?

Yeah- Carowinds got the investment- it was announced a few months back. I think everyone was expecting to see another year like 2011 with massive projects at both parks- this Amusement Leaks stuff makes that look doubtful. :-/

Snapalapagus! I was actually hoping for something. ( Like an RMC...) Back on topic, if we were to get something, what would it be. My money is on dark ride or wing rider. Though if we don't get something for 2015, when will we get it? The last coaster was back in 2010 and the park is known for coasters. I know the park is trying to improve the park over-all but I'm sort of excepting something. It's also been seven years since a coaster has been removed so what's on the chopping block? So many questions and no answers, at least time will tell.

These meeting notes are new; but, Cedar Fair's investment in Carowinds for the 2014-2016 seasons is old news (like 9 months old).

After skimming through the meeting notes, my thoughts about this investment package is shared by some of the meeting attendees comments. I feel that Cedar Fair was going to do what they wanted to do at Carowinds with or without the incentives provided by the local government. I sense that CF wanted to see what incentives they could get if they presented this "Dog & Pony Show" to the local government officials. As a business, there is nothing wrong with doing that.

It seems that Cedar Fair played this up; making it sound that if they did not get any incentives from the local government, they were going to do all this stuff at Kings Dominion. The strange thing is that, when this news story broke last fall, some news person interviewed a Hanover County government official (where KD is located). That person stated that they knew nothing about what Cedar Fair was doing in Charlotte, NC and Hanover County officials were never approached by Cedar Fair at that point in time.

Cedar Fair believes that Carowinds is currently a small park for the metro area it serves and feels that an accelerated development push over the next 3 years would "right-size" the park. If it means more potential income for the chain, then great.

Now with Kings Dominion, I know the coaster fans feel another coaster is due in 2015. "Well, it been X years now and the park NEEDS (translated; "I Want") another coaster".

I feel that a coaster is not in the cards for 2015. My instincts tell me that we might see 40th anniversary related former attractions making a comeback next year. Whether it is the steam train, sky ride, and/or the return of 2-3 former flat rides. This scenario is at the top of my list. Followed by, a dark ride like CW's Guardian; then a renovation/expansion of the water park; and finally a coaster of some sort.

I would be satisfied with something like this. If KD can work on its infrastructure and improve it over the next few years then by all means Cedar Fair should look into investing more in KD. KD isn't getting everything done directly right then and there like Carowinds is, telling you that Carowinds is hoping on quick and successive expansions without any regards for the rest of the park. If KD can show that they can handle a larger crowd of people then by all means they'll be deserving of the same scale of investment as Carowinds, just over a more prolonged period of time.

Oh ye of little faith.

If anything, Cedar fair is just playing the field. I find it hard to believe they are focusing so hard and centering all their advertising around the 40 year anniversary... Then are just going to continue to revitalize the park(not that I mind this at all). I don't see the skyride coming back. But I bet it's a bit more likely than the train as that would require a park wide infrastructure overhaul and probably cost as much as a small coaster for generally little return on the investment.

They will be doing something to cap off the park's 40th anniversary that will draw on the thrill crowd. There will be some kind of ride. I'm not willing to believe it was an "either or" deal cause this is obviously something that's been being planned for both parks for a while, and obviously they have a plan for long term investment for KD drawn up as well.

If anything, all they did was make amends to the plan for KD and strip away the "extra" bits and pieces that it doesn't need. Quite honestly, I can't believe that Cedar Fair would try to establish a market in N.C when you Got D.C 2 hours away from KD, but I guess they feel like Carowinds is better situated to stand out on its own.

Also I'd like to point out that KD has been firing insane amounts of shots at BGW lately. I think it's more than obvious they are blatantly fighting for market share and to attract a bigger crowd and steal from Busch. With Busch in dire need of a 2015 attraction and KD firing so many shots are they going to pass up the chance to blatantly smack down and steal market from busch with w/e they are planning on doing for next year? I'd think not.
