RE: 13: Your Numbers Up (2011 to Present)

The official lineup, as presented in the queue line signage:

1 - Thanatophobia - Fear of Funeral Homes
2 - Claustrophobia - Fear of Enclosed Spaces
3 - Iatrophobia - Fear of Doctors
4 - Dentophobia - Fear of Dentists
5 - Coulrophobia - Fear of Clowns
6 - Clinophobia - Fear of Going to Bed
7 - Acrophobia - Fear of Heights
8 - Necrophobia - Fear of Dead Things
9 - Ophidiophobia - Fear of Snakes
10 - Entomophobia - Fear of Insects
11 - Nyctophobia - Fear of Darkness
12 - Astraphobia - Fear of Thunder & Lightning
13 - Eisoptrophobia - Fear of Mirrors

Let me say a few things regarding this house. First off, if you take Quick Queue, be aware that you will be inserted into the middle of the first room instead of going into the first room, you are inserted and you may miss the first portion; however it isn't that scary of a room so you should be fine.

Other notes to add:

Room 1 - Weak room on scares, but a good start point.
Room 2 - Can clog things up but best to get that out of the way towards the beginning, I love that is a full on room and not just a doorway.
Room 3 - It is supposed to be doctors, but I see severly injured people instead. Haven't really seen a doctor persay.
*Waiting Room* - This is not listed as one of the 13 fears, therefore it is just a filler room for you to literally wait.
Room 4 - Love that the dentist has a power drill instead of a small tooth drill. It just adds to the whole fear factor.
*Hallway* - This is a dead zone, I wish they did more with this empty blue hallway.
Room 5 - Clowns are amazing, it even smells like Fear Fair, so great job there and the hanging clowns is a neat touch. They actually look like they were hanged to death rather than hung up as a prop.
Room 6 - Going to bed isn't so scary, but rather the darkness before falling asleep is and I love how they can capture that.
*Dirty clothes/empty bright black rooms* - So there is a whole section here that is nothingness. These rooms are not listed as any of the 13 fears, which worries me. They had even extra time to plan things out, yet they have huge empty rooms with no theme? This is very disappointing.
Room 7 - Fear of heights is amazing, if only they could improve the effect so that your arms are not showing in the mirrors AND so that people are forced onto the center "plank". It ruins the illusion when people just walk in all over the mirrors.
Room 8 - This looks like a mix of dead things and torture, but they go hand in hand and can give some good scares.
Room 9 - No visible snakes at all! Just snake sounds over the speakers and some rubber curtains that drag on you like rubber snakes, but there really is no snakes period.
Room 10 - Insects is mixed in with spiders. They are both the same room but when you go through they are very differently themed rather than mixed together flawlessly. I wish they mixed them better instead of having them os differently defined. By the way, a guy against the wall saying spiders is not scary to say the least.
Room 11 - Well this room is a failure. Only about 5 feet after insects is darkness, the rest is very well lit and bright. Makes me think that someone can't plan out a proper dark room, which is sad. Even if it was just barely blue faded light, that would be much better than the brightness.
Room 12 - There really is just lighting. Where is the thunder? The lightning doesn't even look like lightning. You need to have some dark points then bright flashes. Lightning is not constant flashing all the time.
Room 13 - This is the most confusing and frustrating part of the house for me. The signage says mirrors, but they have two ladders you walk under. If anything they should have labeled this room fear of superstitions, or take out the ladders. Simple.

I'm sure CK can vouch, I don't jump and get too startled in this house as much as all the others. I don't go into HOS expecting to be scared. I go in hoping to be startled or caught off guard. This house just doesn't do it for me. Now if I had any of these fears, I might be a little creeped out, but there is nothing really scary or startling in this house; with the exception of a few really good spots which did get me. But those spots are very few.

A more comprehensive review coming soon . . .

RE: 13: Your Numbers Up (2011 to Present)

I've seen a doctor in the doctor room. I saw one injured person in there as well. It's not a very interesting room. and what sort of hospital/doctor's office is nothing but bloody sheets anyways?

Personally, I don't think the doctor and dentist rooms work. The fear is there, yeah. A hell of a lot of people have a fear of the doctors and dentists. (Including myself.) And speaking as somebody who get's severe anxiety and often times panic attacks when I go in, the rooms aren't scary. Startling perhaps, if you're caught off guard, but not scary. (Which seems to be the problem most houses have. imo)

I know it's different for everyone, but to me just seeing somebody dressed up as a doctor doesn't instantly mean I'm going to be afraid of them. The anxiety builds when I'm sitting in the waiting room, knowing that I'm going to see a doctor or dentist. Not "Oh look it's a man dressed as a doctor/dentist."

I find this is a problem with 90% of the house. The only one that really works is Heights, and that's because it's an illusion that tricks your brain. Phobias are tricky things to make them work. Some people are sensitive and will be easily triggered into fear. Others need to really be placed in a scene or are literally put into a scenario to cause any sort of fear. Otherwise, you get a power drill or a "It's a bat" deal.

13 - Eisoptrophobia - Fear of Mirrors

I thought I'd annotate this list with what each of the rooms seemed to be, as I went through it.

0. Fear of long lines and/or saunas
1. Fear of standing around in a room full of flowers
2. Fear of body odor
3. Fear of elevator music
4. Fear of bordom
5. Fear of wall art
6. Fear of over-sized children
7. Fear of heights (love this room)
8. Fear of smokehouses
9. Fear of camouflage netting (to be fair, hearing the snakes and not knowing where they were was pretty creepy)
10. Fear of getting cobwebs in your hair
11. Fear of long, empty hallways
12. Fear of strobe lights
13. Fear of home repair

RE: 13: Your Numbers Up (2011 to Present)

First photo: It's a bat!! (First year visitors might get that.)

This house really reminded me how important it is to have a venue flow book, and to follow it for reference each year.
Apparently, Williamsburg hardly ever uses a venue flow book, and that tends to make their haunted houses in-cohesive throughout the years.
This house is the best example I can think of about when using a venue flow the Way, Tampa does is very important.

For example, during the first season of this maze, the "fear of death" scene was located towards the end, and literally all it consisted of was a man with false teeth dressed up as an old-fashioned preacher from the Puritan era. All he did was stand there with a Bible in his hand, and he "Pronounced you dead."

The second year, they changed that room to"Fear of thunder and lightning". Because they didn't have a venue flow to go back to, they forgot about one little thing… They kept the preacher in there. He obviously did not belong in this room, and eventually they realized their mistake, but it took them a long time because all of the actors in that maze are dressed in black.

The third year came around, and it was still "fear of thunder and lightning", but there was no lightning, there word only strobes, and no wind. So, this is a hint to Busch Gardens Williamsburg, and to Tampa. I think Tampa as a sister park needs to show Williamsburg how things are properly done. Phil Raybourn an Carrie Morgan can't do it all by themselves.

RE: 13: Your Numbers Up (2011 to Present)

I never understood that. I brought it up when I talked to Scott Swenson down in Tampa, he said they only really collaborated on the marketing material (dark side of the gardens). I still don't understand why the guys in Williamsburg don't take a trip down there and check out all the cool blueprints and other things that Tampa has. For example, every house in Tampa is designed for wheelchair access throughout the whole maze. Definitely not the case in Williamsburg.

The management here is really missing a cheap and easy learning opportunity. I think the park here just takes for granted that the fans are going to show up regardless of the quality of the event.

RE: 13: Your Numbers Up (2011 to Present)

That "bat" kinda looks like someone left some duct tape wrapped around a rope.
Plus, with FEAR OF BATS, I always thought that the Batman should somehow be incorporated. :p

What room is that last picture? And honestly these pictures make the house look worse. :/

I assume it is Fear of Doctors due to the operation table and the "guts" hanging from the ceiling. Looking at these pictures unless you use the cavernous theming it must be very hard to attempt a theme in the space. According to forum members since 13 is not included in the 2015 line-up, it makes me wonder if there will even be a house in the location.

RE: 13: Your Numbers Up (2011 to Present)

Hopefully the whole building will be shut down and 'under construction' for a new attraction to fill the space and give Ireland it's new REAL ride.
