My guess is between the cold, low amounts of rides open and/or interest in riding them in the cold, and probably relatively low general awareness that the park is currently testing year-round operations that the attendance figures aren't particularly high.

My other guess is with more marketing/ads and milder weather attendance will start going back up.

What was the park atmosphere like? Was it like "normal park but in winter" or "dead park" or did it feel like its own special event, or some combination?

It felt like a special event, during a pandemic. In fact, as I tried to convey in my post, it felt more like a cohesive offering than Christmas Celebration.

Honestly, I thought the crowds were getting close to being too large. Virginia is currently one of a very few number states (4?) with an increasing number of cases.

We went on Sunday and it was definitely busier than the other daytime events we attended, though it seemed to be in the parts where the crowd moves through the park in a sort of unison. I'd agree it's getting close to the point where the park needs to open more things to keep attractions and such from overflowing too much.

I went both sessions Sunday and day was somewhat crowded. 2 cycle waits for Wirbelwind due to distancing and Alpengeist was One Train Ops (maintenance?). Verbolten no wait though for first 2 hours. Nice day to be out.

Autobahn is not listed on the site but was open with new plywood dividers between the queue rows, added in the last 2 weeks, serious and weird. Plexiglass dividers in the Festhaus but I don't know how new.

I was there for my first day visit yesterday and was thrilled with the job they did. I stop Kevin briefly and told him how happy I was with the event and seeing the zoo stuff front and center. He said that the park had been getting lots of positive feedback about it and that they plan to be doing it again next year. Nice to see confirmation of what we have been hearing.

Curious if the success of this kind of event will eventually help give the zoological program at the park a needed boost?

Made it to the event today after a busy January kept me from earlier weekends. It was definitely worth the trip: did some shopping, used my meal plan, timed it right to grab the first train on Verbolten once it opened, and finished up just in time to catch the 2:30 show in Festhaus, which I thought was well done.

If I were a member of the general public, I’m not sure the value is there for a visit at this time of year, but as members they’ll easily get another couple of visits from me during winter limited openings, especially if in the future they are able to expand indoor entertainment options.

We decided to go on Saturday night not really thinking about the temps being an issue. No coasters open but the animals in the Festhaus made it all worthwhile. We brought a friend to who had never been to BGW. I really wish that wasn't her first experience; if it were mine, I would have been really disappointed.

I imagine if the plan is to do this when we are out of the pandemic (there’s things floating around that the South African strand is resistant to the vaccine) that the theaters are going to be a big part of adding to the experience. Whether it’s the same show year round or new shows in the winter, I could see that improving the experience of Winter Weekends.
