RE: Verbolten
Long-time lurker, new poster here.
Yesterday I made my way to Busch for my maiden voyage on Verbolten. Instead of giving a play-by-play, I'll address the issues that most people have been talking about: acceleration speed, theme implementation, and intensity after the rhine drop.
Acceleration Speed:
I found both launches to be extremely exciting, and without attempting to adjust my body to compensate for whiplash, I did not experience any pain. I sat in the second and fourth rows on my two rides, so I cannot speak for the back seats. However, I saw small children and adults alike in the back seat throughout the day and all seemed to come away smiling.
Theme Implementation:
For those of you who have not been on the ride yet, I must reiterate how POV's do not give an accurate picture of the ride. The "moonbox" is enormous but hard to see. You have to be actively looking for it to see it, which is something I wish they made a bit more obvious. Most people didn't seem to notice it. It doesn't help that the G's from the helix make it difficult to look over your left shoulder. The theme elements on the first break track include an enormous life-size forest set to the left, complete with atmospheric lighting. It was extremely impressive.
The "spirit of the forest" drop theme needs to be revamped. It's unclear and lackluster. The thunderstorm was much better - thunder and lightning strike at the moment the track drops. A neat tidbit that I haven't read yet: the thunder from this moment is audible from outside the building, and often guests will look around Oktoberfest in search of the source of the rumbling. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to see the wolf story.
Intensity:
Before I speak at length about this, I must preface my experience with a short story. After Verbolten, my girlfriend and I hit Apollo's, and both of us agreed that it was underwhelming after VB. In fact, I would rate some of the more intense moments up their with Alpie, namely the iconic turns after the Rhine drop and the helix. This ride is not as tame as it appears by any means.
Lastly, the issue with "bumpiness" - it simple does not exist. Even in the areas people complained about being especially bumpy, nobody in my part seemed to notice (I asked them after our rides). It's an extremely smooth coaster. I think people may be confusing "bumpiness" with "extreme positive vertical G's" on the return to the station. As for the turns before the first launch, I have no explanation. The ride is perfectly smooth.
This all may be a bit redundant now, but I felt the need to share my experience. If you haven't ridden yet, I think you'll be in for quite a surprise!
